I know I am very thankful for the rain that we have received this spring and I know many others are too. But, the toll that it has taken our revenue projections, our production efficiency and our growers it is a bittersweet blessing. In 2014 the Dallas area accumulated inches of rainfall. As of April 30 th we are at a record setting 37.1 inches and they say it is anticipated to continue through the summer. How quickly our initiatives are turning to rainwater harvesting and how to combat fungal and pest issues that this moist spring has brought upon us. Proper drainage is imperative and mosquitos are prevalent. more on 3

3 Can We Find A Happy Medium? a Message from Jodi Joseph Continued from Page 1 Drought is just one of the challenges Be on high alert for diseases like downy mildew, powdery mildew, rust, black spot, dollar spot, and mold among others We will need to be on high alert to combat diseases like mold, rust, downy mildew, dollar spot, powdery mildew and black spot, to name just a few. Though this presents us with a whole new set of challenges for 2015, let s not forget the imminent threat of the drought that was upon is just a few short months ago. A discussion of 1 time per month watering in some of our cities and towns was a #1 priority on the council docket. It is more important than ever that we remember the initiative that we put in place to overcome those challenging times as we learn handle what has been dealt to us this season. Now we must work even harder to create the happy medium that Mother Nature does not seem to be able to deliver to us. Jodi Joseph Region IV Chair 3

6 Industry News Rain, Rain, Go Away By: Kristen Anderson Rain, Rain Go Away Don t say that too fast. Water restrictions for outdoor watering are being lifted and a conservation plans are being put in place. The Dallas and surrounding area lakes are filling up fast with all of the rain we have had over the last two months. Here were the current Lake levels at 5/03/15 as a percentage of full that are used as reservoirs for two counties of TNLA Region IV area: DALLAS COUNTY (91.8%) Lake Ray Hubbard 87.6% Lake Ray Roberts 98.4% Lake Lewisville 100% COLLIN COUNTY (95.9%) Lake Lavon 100% Chapman Lake 100% Lake Texoma 100% Lake Tawakoni 84.5% OTHER COUNTIES IN TNLA REGION IV Hunt 92.6% Kaufman 91.6% Guadalupe 79.9% Fannon 100% Rockwall 94.1% Ellis 88.4% Hill 81.4% * 6
7 Rain, Rain, Go Away Continued from Page 6 Dallas County is currently under their Water Conservation Ordinance which allows outdoor watering 2 days a week based on the last digit of the address. For more on the Water Conservation Ordinance, visit For Collin County, the restrictions were lifted May 1, 2015, and they are activating what they are calling a Water Conservation Plan. This will allow two days a week for outdoor watering, if needed. See page for the message from the Executive Director of the North Texas Municipal Water District. All cities in the DFW area have the final decision on the water restrictions they put in place for their residents. The water boards are encouraging people to change landscape beds from pop-up sprinklers to drip irrigation as part of their water conservation plans. When in drought conditions, such as the past several years, there were no restrictions with using drip irrigation systems. Definitely a selling point for anyone trying to keep building, business and residential, foundation damages to a minimum. Dallas has a conservation tiered rating system. This means that the more water used, the higher rate you pay within a tiered structure. Monitoring your usage every month also helps detect possible leaks. - SaveDallasWater.com 7
