2 Page 2 Kelly Boren- Principal, Mountain View Virtual Hello, my name is Kelly Boren. My father was in the Army for twenty years and I grew up moving around the country to different military posts. Although this was difficult for a young child, I had the opportunity to visit different places and meet many different people. I have been in education for 28 years. I received a Bachelor of Science degree in Chemistry and a Bachelor of Science degree in Secondary Education from the University of Wyoming. I receive my Masters degree in Education Administration from the University of Northern Arizona. I began my career in education as a high school chemistry and physics teacher at Kofa and Cibola High Schools in Yuma, Arizona. I also coached Football and Track. My first administrative position was as an assistant principal at Crane Junior High School in Yuma Arizona. I spent two years at Crane Junior High School before moving to Colorado where I was a middle school principal for 11 years. I spent three years in Wyoming as a Junior High principal. My last four years were spent as an assistant principal at Fort Carson Middle School before accepting the principal position at MVV. Welcome to MVV golden opportunities for all of our students as we strive to find ways that we can meet each of our students needs! Dear Parents and Students, As the new principal it is my pleasure to welcome you to what promises to be a fantastic new school year at Mountain View Virtual! We are incredibly excited about our first year here at Mountain View Virtual, and know that it promises to be filled with golden opportunities for all of our students as we strive to find ways that we can meet each of our students needs! As we begin this new year, we pledge to you... our students and parents... that this will be a wonderful year of engaging, meaningful and rigorous work in our blended learning settings, on-line sessions, along with the STEM and post secondary opportunities. To ensure the successful start of the new school year we have set the following goals: - teachers will be hired by next week - teachers will be trained by the last week of July - student schedules will be ready by first week of August (depending on when enrolled) - students will begin core courses and electives on Monday, August 10th - STEM activities will begin by the end of August - Look forward to our open house to meet teachers and Principal It is my hope that as the year progresses you will get to know the staff, the programs and the policies we offer at Mountain View Virtual School. It is the goal of the staff at Mountain View Virtual to work with you to create a rich learning environment for all students. Please also know that we highly value home/school communication here at Mountain View. It is vital and plays an integral role in each student s success. Please do not hesitate to contact us if/when the need arises. We will do likewise. We want and encourage our parents to stay in the know about their child s studies, assignments, assessments, and school activities, as well as other events and happenings. I look forward to working with you and developing a relationship that will assist in the growth of your child/ children.
