2 The Parish Hill Middle School program is designed to provide a diverse educational experience. Our school size can enhance the important relationship between student and teacher. Academic expectations remain high as we wish to see every student take advantage of the many terrific programs at Parish Hill. As a seventh grader you are required to take the five core courses of English, Math, Science, Geography, and School Success Skills. Some seventh grades will be placed in Pre-Algebra (a higher level class based on recommendations from their sixth grade teachers and standardized test scores). All seventh graders will be assigned a World Language (Spanish and French) rotation. In addition, Seventh graders will have the opportunity to choose 3 additional rotations from the following; Art, Chinese, Computer Aided Design, Environmental Research, Graphic Design, Computer Applications, Family and Consumer Science, and Money, Math, Manipulatives and Me. The course descriptions for these classes are found later in this Program of Studies. Each rotation will take place for 10 weeks. Every effort will be made to give students their top choices. However, due to space limitations, students may be assigned their third or fourth choice. Additionally, 7th graders will take Physical Education and one of the following full-year classes that meet every other day. The classes are Chorus, Band, and Introduction to Music. The course descriptions for these classes are found later in this Program of Studies. As an eighth grader you are required to take the five core courses of English, Math, Science, Social Studies and one of three World Language courses. Some students will be placed in Honors Algebra based on recommendations from their seventh grade teacher. Students may participate in a School Success Skills class, in lieu of a World Language, based upon recommendations of 7 th grade teachers. Eighth graders will take Physical Education and one of the following full-year classes, which meet every other day: Chorus, Band, and General Music. The course descriptions for these classes are found later in this Program of Studies. Additionally, eighth graders will choose four of the following courses which meet every day for one marking period. These classes are Art, Independent Living, Chinese, Computer Applications, Robotics/Pre-Engineering, Animation and Gaming, ALEKS-math program, and Writing Lab. The course descriptions for these classes are found later in this Program of Studies. Every effort will be made to give students their first choice but because of limited seating and overall 8th grade student demand in courses, such as World Language, this may not always be possible. Parish Hill offers a number of extra curricular and interscholastic activities. From soccer to softball, basketball to baseball, there is something for everyone. If sports are not your thing, you may wish to join a club. The middle school newspaper, art club, diversity club, drama club, or chorus may just be the answer. If you have any questions or need additional information you may contact any staff or faculty member at Parish Hill. We are all ready and willing to help.

All students with a signed Computer Use Agreement will be allowed to use the computers in the library. The library offers extended hours two days per week until 3:40 (days to be announced at the beginning of the school year). Students may take the late bus home. SPECIAL SERVICES Students whose needs dictate a more individualized educational program are served through the Special Education Department. Student educational needs are determined through individual assessment. The Special Education program is multi-faceted. Student programs are developed from criteria set forth at a Planning and Placement Team meeting. The curriculum offered by the Special Education Department emphasizes academic and behavioral growth through the monitoring of goals and objectives by both the student and the teacher. Every student is made aware of his/her educational plan and when particular goals have been reached. Every student has the opportunity to meet the more difficult challenges of everyday school life with the support of his/her advisor. Within each of these courses are skills that emphasize information necessary for understanding the world around us. Each course parallels topics from various subject areas. Special regard to a students learning style is emphasized by the teacher. If his/her goals are attained, a student may be transferred to a regular class via a Planning and Placement Team (PPT) meeting.
