3 Genetic and antigenic diversities Type O seems still stable antigenicly O1 Manisa vacc. Strain covers antigenicly Geneticly new O Pan-Asia sub-strain (Group IIA) However, latest O isolates are part in a new group with 4% difference geneticly from former group Type A5 Iran has been changed in time Genetic lineage take places two groups -the latest one almost 5% far from previous;5ard 7 Antigenic poor reaction with A22 Iraq vacc. r values: <.2 a new sub-strain; A Tur 6 Policy on the combating of the disease For the combating FMD in Turkey; Vaccination, Slaughtering (in Thrace region only); bio-security measures (Quarantine, disinf., anm. movement control so on) Control policy is based mainly vaccination This year a project has been started for three years: EU Project (Control of Foot and Mouth Disease (FMD) in Turkey Project no: TR 6 3 2) EuropeAid Project (124939/D/SUP/TR( /D/SUP/TR) for control of FMD in Turkey GOAL Control of FMD in Turkey by mass vaccination policy in accordance with other EU control measures such as animal identification, movement and market controls. Total Budget: Duration: 3 Years End Date: November 1 Activities Vaccination Sero-survey Cleaning and Disinfection EuFMD 77 th Executive Committee 3
4 The Project First step tender for vaccine supply was completed by CFCU for supplying Spring 8 vaccine Contract signed with the FMD Institute (5.2.8), Merial (12.2.8) and Intervet (3.1.8) Delivery of vaccines between Vaccine dilevered for Spring 8 FIRMS Vacc. for SR Vacc. for LR Amount of vacc.tendered Supplied Amount of vacc.tendered Supplied Intervet Merial Şap Enstitüsü As a total, ( bivalent; trivalent) for large rum and (1.5. bivalent; trivalent) for small rum. 8 Spring vaccination scheme All bovine animals population has been vaccinated twice a year. 8 Biosecurity measures Mass vaccination has been conducted just before the festival This campaign will be gain high protection rate just before the fes. Vacc. Campaign: September-November/Fes.: 8-11 December A new notification has been published to encourage high range vaccination coverage Province in which recording less than 85 % coverage will be compansate by banning animal movement outside/in Task and action force has been established for the Kurban festival in each big cities Animal movement has been regulated by: Notification specific for movement before and after festival It has been carried out restriction on animal movement: unvaccinated animal not allowed; not vaccinated animal has to vaccinate before the movement at least 14 days Biosecurity measures A specific notification has been published for arrangement impermanent animal market in Istanbul and Thrace region Notification is described: Design of market in Istanbul; separate market regarding to origin of animals each Thrace and Anatolia Unsold animals; Unsold Animals from Istanbul market will not be allowed for returning back to Thrace; will be slaughtered in its place In case of moved to another place; 3 weeks quarantine will be conducted in place which final destination of animals Biosecurity measures Notification to Governorships of Istanbul/Thrace and Municipalities of Istanbul/Thrace Regional meeting with participation of state /municipality vet services, governorships, municipalities, police and stakeholders will be held to asses all dispositions for preparedness It will be conducted preventive measures at animal markets and slaughterhouses Regularly disinfection will be carried out at specific places State and Municipalities vet services will work with coordination to inspect all measures; A training for owners and dealers will be conducted In order to enhance awareness of the situation, it has been prepared booklets,notices and posters EuFMD 77 th Executive Committee 8
9 SEROSURVEILLANCE ACTIVITIES Serosurveillance was designed in Anatolia; aimed: To estimate NSP prevalance To asses vacc. Effectiveness and ab prevalance Sera were collected during the Autumn campaign; NSP: 33.9 Ab : 3.78 Testing has been delay, because of delay on the tender for ELISA kits Result will be available on January 9, using Institute s kits SEROSURVEILLANCE ACTIVITIES (THRACE) It was initiated a program with 3 years aimed to substantiate free of FMD with vaccination As a first year activities: Active surveillance has been initiated Well structured control measurres has been implemented Serosurveillance has been conducted NSP prevalance: Vaccine effectiveness: 9 Testing will be carried out after the supplied kits by tender: March-may 9 EuFMD 77 th Executive Committee 9
