If you are a Digital Media major, the prerequisite requirements cannot be waived. Note that your taking this course without the prerequisites is not recommended, as basic skills learned in these courses are extremely important to your understanding of Dreamweaver. You may take the prerequisite courses during the same semester that you are taking this course. If you are an on-campus student and you have never used a Mac, it is also recommended that you complete or concurrently take CSYS 1211 Intro to Mac OS (advanced placement exam is available for this course). BASIC SKILL REQUIREMENTS: The following basic skills are required for successful completion of this course: The ability to read and follow directions. The ability to adhere to due dates. The ability to navigate the Internet using a web browser and to download required files, documents, and/or images. The ability to use a search engine. The ability to preview Word and PowerPoint documents on the web. The ability to use for communication and to send an attachment. The ability to create, rename, copy, move, and delete files/folders. The ability to zip files for submission. COURSE DESCRIPTION: A presentation of key Dreamweaver concepts and techniques plus the more advanced features and tools in the latest version of the software will be covered. Emphasis will be placed on Dreamweaver basics, customizing the workspace, applying cascading style sheets, working with text, designing with images, inserting links, crafting page layouts, creating interactive pages, constructing forms, adding multimedia, publishing to the web, increasing productivity with templates, and working with code. Students will be encouraged to obtain Adobe Certified Associate (ACA) and/or Adobe Certified Expert (ACE) status through industry certification. Offered fall and spring terms. Prerequisites: CSYS 1013 and CSYS 1033, or instructor approval. COURSE OBJECTIVES: Upon successful completion of this course, students will demonstrate the ability to: Create site structure, organize site navigation, name and title documents, and make files public. Prepare the workspace, work with semantic markup, work with special characters, create lists, and attach an external CSS file. Work with static images, control backgrounds with CSS, and work with other image types. Create layouts with style sheets, work with a template, and use CSS to control content. Work with classes and create online forms. Work with HTML5 tags, CSS3 selectors, and web fonts; add video in HTML5; and create a CSS3 image gallery. Use JavaScript behaviors and add jquery UI elements. Work with fluid grids and create CSS3 transitions. All students must purchase the required textbook Students may purchase software for home use or use the on-campus lab. Only on-campus students must purchase a flash drive. Be very careful purchasing a used textbook as you will need an unused access code from the back of the book to download the required files. Textbooks and supplies may be purchased at: Metro Campus Bookstore (on-campus students only), Northeast Campus Bookstore (online students only), and TCC Online Bookstore (online students only). Adobe Dreamweaver CC (TCC s current version) is available for student use at the Metro Campus Center for Creativity in the classroom (MC4C 3048), the Digital Media Lab (MC4C 3058), and in the Metro Campus IT Lab (MC 453) please check current semester schedule for hours of availability. Students wishing to use the software at home may purchase an educational subscription (see Blackboard course site for additional information). Dreamweaver is not distributed to students by TCC. Adobe frequently updates its software. It is the practice of this program to update all software as soon as practicable. If a new version of the software becomes available during the school year, it is perfectly acceptable for students to use the new version even though TCC has not officially adopted this version. Students may also choose to use an older version of the software but assume full responsibility for any problems that may arise and agree to use the TCC lab facilities when required. Flexibility is the key to becoming successful in the field of digital media; therefore, your ability to transfer skills from one version to the next is of utmost importance. Your instructor will have access to the latest version of the software should you encounter difficulties with the transfer of knowledge but may not have access to previous versions. Note that your home computer must be meet recommended Adobe system requirements to run the software effectively (see If your computer does not meet system requirements, it will be your responsibility to use the TCC lab facilities. TEACHING METHODS: Strategies include brief lectures with assignments, process-oriented projects, discussion board activities, quizzes, and web/ use with all activities supported via Blackboard, the TCC online course management tool. To access TCC s online services: Go to the TCC web site ( Click upon the MyTCC at the top of the page. Log in using your username, which is a capital T plus your 8-digit CWID number and your TCCNET password. Should you need login assistance, please call (918) Once logged in, you will have the ability to access your student account, Blackboard course sites, and TCC . Students using MyTCC on public computers should click the Sign Out link to properly exit (before closing the web browser). Closing the web browser will not always log a student out of MyTCC. If a student does not log out, the next user to access MyTCC may find that he or she is already logged in as the previous user with access to all student information. After a fixed period of time, students may find themselves automatically logged out of Blackboard and/or MyTCC. This will be noticeable, as several of the category links on the left of Blackboard will disappear. Should this happen, close your browser and login to MyTCC again. EVALUATION TECHNIQUES: Students will have the opportunity to accumulate points from the timely submission of assignments, which will include textbook quizzes (9@175) and projects (8@640) for a total of 815 points. A final grade will be assigned based upon the following point scale. Because a point scale is being used, percentages will not be rounded in determining the final grade. A= PTS. B= PTS. C= PTS. D= PTS. F=BELOW 489 AW=INACTIVITY STUDENT EXPECTATIONS: All students are required to log into the Blackboard course site at least once each week and can expect to spend the following amount of time per week on assignments: 16-week course 4 hours per week 64 total hours 8-week course 8 hours per week 64 total hours 4-week course 16 hours per week 64 total hours You may spend more or less time depending upon your current level of expertise. 3 class time as if they were attending an on-campus course, participate actively in the class, use and the discussion board to communicate with the instructor/classmates, and when assistance is needed. ATTENDANCE: Students should be warned that TCC requires the instructor to assign a WN grade to all students who are inactive after the first 2 weeks of a 16-week course or after the first 1 week of a short-term course. Once a WN has been assigned, the student will no longer have access to the Blackboard course site and must contact the instructor for reinstatement. This policy applies to both oncampus and online students. Attendance records will be kept in accordance with college policy, excessive absence notices will be submitted, and the financial aid office will be notified regarding poor attendance. If a student stops attending class or submitting assignments, it is his/her responsibility to complete the official withdrawal procedure by the published date. If a student stops attending class or submitting assignments without completing the official withdrawal procedure, the instructor may issue an AW at any time throughout the semester. All students are responsible for assignments and material covered in class regardless of attendance/participation. If you know you will have to miss class, work ahead of schedule! SUBMITTING ASSIGNMENTS: Assignments and instructions for submission of these assignments will be presented on the Blackboard course site and/or the instructor s web site (via Blackboard links). All assignments will be submitted through Blackboard and not as attachments. Project files can be quite large and may take quite some time to submit via Blackboard depending upon the speed of your internet connection always allow at least 30 minutes before a due date for submission. Do not an assignment to the instructor without prior approval. Once an assignment has been submitted, it is the student s responsibility to check the Blackboard gradebook to confirm submission. Quiz scores will be visible in the gradebook upon completion; discussion board posts and project submissions will display as an exclamation point until graded by the instructor. If you do not see a quiz score or a project exclamation mark, contact the instructor before the due date not after as it is your responsibility to make certain that assignments are properly submitted. Each assignment will normally be graded and recorded within a week of its due date. If you are ahead of schedule, there might be a delay in the grading of your assignments. To view feedback on your assignments, access the Blackboard grade center link and click upon a specific assignment score. Feel free to or call any time you need assistance or have questions about a graded assignment. LATE ASSIGNMENTS AND MAKE-UP WORK: All assignments are due as stated on the tentative agenda. Late quizzes or late projects will not be accepted. The one exception to this rule is the Emergency Dropbox. You will be allowed to submit 1 projects within 1 week of the original due date to the Emergency Dropbox at the end of the assignment list, but you will automatically receive a 20-point late reduction on that project score. The Emergency Dropbox may not be used for the final project. These rules create a truly fair environment to those students who submit the correct files on or before the assignment due date, and they also reflect what is expected in the workplace. Note that Blackboard will not allow submission of an assignment after the due date as these assignments will no longer be visible to students, and they will not be made available upon request. This includes both quizzes and projects. Do not wait until the last minute before a due date to submit as heavy Blackboard traffic and the large size of many of our projects may cause you problems. If you submit early and experience problems, you have time to work with me via ; if you submit at the last minute and experience problems, you will not have the advantage of contacting me for assistance and may receive a zero if an assignment is not submitted correctly. Submitting incomplete project files will result in a minimal grade being recorded, and you will not be allowed to resubmit (this means that you should make certain that you submit the correct files). COURSE WITHDRAWAL: The deadline to withdraw from a course shall not exceed 3/4 the duration of any class. Check the TCC Academic Calendar for the deadline that applies to the course(s). Begin the process with a discussion with the faculty member assigned to the course. Contact the Advisement Office at any TCC campus to initiate withdrawal from a course ( W grade) or to change from Credit to Audit. Withdrawal and/or change to an audit from a course after the drop/add period can alter the financial aid award for the current and future semesters. Students may receive an outstanding bill from TCC if the recalculation leaves a balance due to TCC. Students who stop participating in the course and fail to withdraw may receive a course grade of either an AW for inactivity or F for failure, which may have financial aid consequences for the student. COMMUNICATIONS: TCC students receive a designated student address (jane.doe@tulsacc.edu). All communications to you about TCC and this course will be sent to your student address. You must use this address to send to and receive from the instructor regarding this course. Log in to MyTCC to access student . 4 this account to another address. To do so, login to your account, access options, and choose the forward option. INCLEMENT WEATHER: TCC rarely closes. If extreme weather conditions or emergency situations arise, TCC always gives cancellation notices to radio and television plus posts to the TCC website ( You may also check our Blackboard course site for additional closing information and/or instructions. GENERAL EDUCATION GOALS: Tulsa Community College graduates value cultural diversity, ethical behavior, and the unique role of public education in sustaining a free society. CLASSROOM ETIQUETTE: Open and mutually respectful communication of varied opinions, beliefs, and perspectives during classroom or online discussion encourages the free exchange of ideas that is essential to higher learning and to the ability to learn from one another. TCC is a learning-centered college and also takes special pride in its facilities. Please assist us by observing the following policies: Do show respect to the instructor and your peers at all times. Do not interrupt the learning experience by expecting personal assistance if you are late to class. Do turn off all equipment when leaving the classroom. Do pick up and dispose of all trash at your workstation upon leaving the classroom/lab. Do mute all cell phones/pagers - if you must respond, leave the classroom or lab to do so. Do not bring food or drinks into the classroom or lab area. Do not use tobacco products of any kind in the classroom or lab area. Do not bring children into the classroom or lab area. SYLLABUS CHANGES: Occasionally, changes to the syllabus may be necessary. Students will be notified of any changes to the syllabus in writing (posted to the Blackboard course site). Deaf and hard of hearing students may text (918) ACADEMIC DISHONESTY: Academic dishonesty (cheating) is defined as the deception of others about one's own work or about the work of another. Academic dishonesty or misconduct is not condoned nor tolerated at campuses within the Tulsa Community College system. Tulsa Community College adopts a policy delegating certain forms of authority for disciplinary action to the faculty. Such disciplinary actions delegated to the faculty include, but are not limited to, the dismissal of disrespectful or disorderly students from classes. In the case of academic dishonesty a faculty member may: Require the student to redo an assignment or test, or require the student to complete a substitute assignment or test. Record a "zero" for the assignment or test in question. Recommend to the student that the student withdraw from the class, or administratively withdraw the student from the class. Record a grade of "F" for the student at the end of the semester. Faculty may request that disciplinary action be taken against a student at the administrative level by submitting such a request to the Dean of Student Services. Your continuation in this course constitutes a valid contract between the instructor and you as a student with the understanding that you have read the syllabus/tentative agenda for the course and are in agreement with the terms contained therein.
