It wasn t until I changed my question to an open ended question, one where my girls could not answer, yes, no, or nothing that I started to learn more about their day Conversation starters I find helpful include: Dance Fever - Every Thursday Swimming Lessons - Every Thursday starting 1st November Tuckshop - Friday 2nd Nov New School Times - 8:30am 2:30pm Tell me the greatest thing you did today Who did you laugh with at school and what was so funny? How did your teacher help you to learn today? If you have any other great conversations, please share them with us so that we can all learn together. Swimming Swimming starts Thursday 1 st November (this week). Please return the signed permission slip by Thursday morning. Students participating in the program can pay in full or instalments, with the final payment due by Thursday 29 th, November. Please ensure that all items are clearly labelled. Togs, rashie, shirt and board shorts are all considered acceptable swimwear. If wearing a 2 piece, a shirt or rashie must be worn. Prep Enrolments If you have a child ready for prep and have not filled in the enrolment packs, please do so as soon as possible. If you are aware of a new family coming to Gunalda in 2019, please encourage them to contact the school so that we can give them an enrolment pack. Pre-Prep Day Our pre-prep days are continuing on Wednesday all term and are a great opportunity for our new families to see the wonderful program and facilities that Gunalda has to offer. It is also a great way for both parents and students to alleviate any anxieties they may be feeling about coming to school. These will take place in our Prep 2 classroom with Mrs Newman and Mrs Sallaway and will go for an hour. It was wonderful to sit down with the parents and caregivers of our potential prep students and talk about ways that they could assist their child with reading and answer any questions families had. Next week, pre-prep families are encouraged to borrow one of our book bags. Inside the bag is a card with some activities that match the book. These activities support pre-reading skills and oral language. We hope that families enjoy this time with their children. Continue.

2 P A G E 2 Our School Rules An Active Learner Respectful Responsible Pre-Preps coming to visit will need: Hat Water bottle Fruit Break Closed in shoes Casual Clothing We could get messy Breakfast Club Thanks to our wonderful school community, our students have the option to have toast and juice provided to them every morning. We are also given cereal as part of our donation, however this is often not requested by our students and we get quite a stock pile of cereal. We will leave the surplus cereal on the 3-6 kitchen bench. Please feel free to grab a box for your family to enjoy. Lunchtime Play I would like to congratulate our students on their responsible play at lunchtime. Last week students were given the option to participate in outdoor play or do some activities in our air-conditioned classroom. With the weather heating up, many students opted to chill out in the air con and complete loom bands, colouring in or board games. Outside we had chalk drawing, numerous games of handball, basket balls bouncing, netball skills being taught and tiggy being played. Christmas Card Design P-3 Students are invited to design a picture for the local council. If their design is chosen, it will be used on the local Christmas card and again on the calendar. If you have a P-3 student that would like to submit an entry, please return these to me by Friday 9 th, November. If you need any more copies, just see a staff member and they can get you any additional copies you may need. Time Out - At the moment there is a nasty tummy bug going around. We are being vigilant with students washing hands. If your child has symptoms please keep them hydrated. If your child vomits the suggested time to be absent from school is 24 hours after their last vomit. 3 P A G E 3 Chappy s Corner Last week in the 3-6 room we looked at the different personality types and how they can help us understand the way we prefer to do things. We used designing a party to show how some will focus more on the people, others the itinerary, some will stick to what they know and love while others are more likely to think big and creative. This week we will be doing some communication and interpretation activities to continue to discover how we might not always see things the same as others and how that can be a really helpful thing. The prep-2s are coming along with this their technology. If you have an old computer and/ or keyboard at home I'm sure they would love to tell you about the different keys and parts of a computer. 5 Position Vacant Gympie West State School are seeking a relief Tuckshop Convenor for a 12 month period. The hours are a seven day fortnight three days one week and four days the second week (31½ hours in total). Starting time: 7:30am and finishing time: 12:00 midday Tuckshop Convenor s Roll To be in charge of the day to day operation of the Gympie West State School Tuckshop, and be responsible for the effective and efficient operation of the Tuckshop in accordance with the policies and directions as determined by the P&C Association. Selection Criteria Possess organisational skills and financial skills Knowledge and ability to learn quickly about Stock control and ordering Menu planning, food preparation and food hygiene standards Counting float and banking Communication and interpersonal skills necessary to relate to a wide range of people including staff, volunteers, students and other members of the school community. Major Responsibilities Day to day operations of the Tuckshop Ordering stock, receiving and checking all supplies Counting the daily takings Ensuring the takings are prepared for banking Attending P&C meetings in a consultative and reporting capacity Ensuring the Tuckshop is maintained and cleaned to a high standard Applications Applications must be received at Gympie West State School office by 3:00pm on Thursday 15 th November.
