3 Dear participants, dear guests, Greetings from the organising committee After many months of preparation, we are pleased to welcome you to the youth forum Germany, Poland and Russia On the Path towards a Common Future?. Indeed, there are many ways to answer that question and many questions that follow from it. You have come to Warsaw to pose your own questions under this basic theme, and to not only find your own answers but also ways to transform your ideas about German-Polish-Russian cooperation into reality. We are very happy that you have the courage and motivation to join this initiative and enter in this complex and sometimes controversial, yet crucial trialogue between Germany, Poland and Russia. Not only is this forum a platform on which the future relations of the three countries can be shaped, it is also an endeavour to stand up to the responsibility that our common history poses to us. In this sense, we are grateful to be able to welcome the public to two panel discussions in the course of the forum, on which viewpoints and opinions can be exchanged with panellists as well as our participants. We hope to raise important questions and the awareness towards the diverse nature of German-Polish-Russian relations, especially the potentials of their positive future development but also the limits that need to be taken in account. We look forward to extending, deepening and re-orienting these discussions on the two youth forums in Moscow (2014) and Tübingen (2015). Our organisations, in particular the trilateral project organising team, have done their best in to prepare these five days in Warsaw so as to make this youth forum an unforgettable and unique experience. We would like to express our outspoken gratitude towards those who have made this forum possible, in first instant the supporters: German-Polish Youth Office, Foundation for German-Polish Cooperation, Robert Bosch Stiftung, University of Warsaw Foundation and Commerzbank. We would also like to thank our patrons, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Poland, the University of Warsaw and the German Embassy in Warsaw, for their support in realising this event. Most importantly, the forum benefits from the numberless experts who volunteer to contribute and share their knowledge with participants and guests. We hope that the trilateral youth forum will serve to open up new perspectives and unlock potential among participants, as well as all other involved individuals, so as to facilitate an honest and respectful interaction in order to understand and define a path towards the common future of Germany, Poland and Russia. Yours sincerely, The Organisers, represented by Theresa Lauterbach Piotr Müller Karolina Pietkiewicz Alexey Potemkin Chairwoman of the Alumni President of the President of the Board of Chairman of the Association of the German- Students Parliament the University of Warsaw Russian-Polish Russian Youth Parliament of the Republic of Students Union Youth Council 3
