Desription Provide a brief desription of the new onentration (inluding the spe ifi fous of the new onentnllion, relationship to other onentrations in this degree program, et). The BAE in Elementary Eduation with a STEM onentration has oursework that leads to an elementary eduation teahing ertifiate and highly qualified status in siene or math. This program differs from the Elementary Ed degree in that it offers students a firm grounding in math and siene ontent with urrent researh and best praties, aompanied by real-world lassroom experiene in math and siene lassrooms. B. Demand Explain the unit's need for the new onentration (e.g., market demand, researh base, diretion of the disipline, and interd isiplinary onsiderations). How wi ll the new onentration omplement the existing degree program? There is a growing demand for STEM eduators nationally, espeially in elementary and middle grades. This major wi ll produe gradautes who will meet the growing demand for STEM eduators, speifially in math and siene. Graduates of this onentration wi ll have the required number of redits needed to be deemed highly qualifed to teah math or siene. 2. Support and Impat A. Faulty governane Provide a supporting letter from the hair of the aademi unit veri fyi ng that the proposed one ntration has reeived fa ulty approval through appropriate governane proedures in the unit and that the unit has the resoures to support the onentration as presented in the proposal, without impating ore ourse resoures. B. Other related programs Identify other related ASU programs and outline how the new onentration will omplement these ex isti ng ASU programs. This is a spealized program that meets the needs of a targeted population so it wi ll not impat other programs. Sine it is also a teaher ertifiation program, no other ollege offers the state required ourses and experienes that are offered in Teahers College. C. Knowledge, ompetenies, and ski lls List the knowledge, ompetenies. and skills (learning outomes) students should have when they omplete this proposed onentration. Examples of program learning outomes an be fo und at ( 1). Graduates of this program will be highly qualified in math or siene per the Arizona Department ofeduation requirements. Being highly qualified entails suessfu l ompletion of24 redits in math or siene. Students who omplete this program will be able to pass the AEPA (Arizona Eduator Profiieny Assessment) in both Elementary Eduation and middle grades math or siene. B.
