By ombining offerings from aross the business shool the programme is unique in its ombination of theory and pratie in the study of HRM within a global environment. Emphasis is given to the understanding of both the disipline of HRM and its ore praties as well as the ontextual environment in whih organisations are operating Students will develop a pratial understanding of the range of hallenges faing people managers in different environments. Transferable skills The programme requires a substantial amount of independent reading, researh and study in aademi literature. Students are expeted to take personal responsibility and show initiative in developing their knowledge and understanding of the field of study. For the students that are able to demonstrate these independent study skills, they will have the opportunity to develop analytial and oneptual thinking and apply these skills to the management and motivation of an organisation's most expensive resoure. Students will reeive grounding in the development of HRM into a strategi funtion and the growth of International HRM in reent years. As well as developing a omparative awareness of the various elements of HRM pratie, notably: training and development; reruitment and seletion; performane management and reward the students will also be equipped with a range of analysis/diagnosti tools to support their awareness of ontext. As outlined in more detail below, students who omplete this ourse of study will not only be wellgrounded in the ore of HRM, its bakground and strategi development but will also have an awareness of how the field of IHRM has developed in response to the inreasingly global nature of our world. During their studies students will have the opportunity to enhane and develop their refletive and interpersonal skills and enhane their ommuniation (oral and written), presentations, information handling, problem solving, team-working, and the use of information tehnology. Students will learn to work independently, under time pressures, and will learn to set priorities and manage their time in order to meet strit deadlines. The final element in the programme is a self-direted projet in International Human Management. A omplete list of options is available from the Programme Diretor, and a list of urrent options an be found in the relevant Departmental Handbook. There is no guarantee that in any one year all modules will be available. New optional modules may also be added. Progression requirements of taught modules in January and the Summer term examination period for failed modules reassessment takes plae in August/September. Projet in International Human Resoure Management should be submitted in August, as set out in the hand book, or 4 weeks thereafter for students entered for resit examinations. Students wishing to proeed to a higher degree by researh should normally have obtained a merit grade and at least 60% in the Projet in International Human Resoure Management or dissertation. Summary of Teahing and Teahing is organised in modules. The method of delivery varies between modules, espeially in terms of the proportion of time alloated to letures, seminars and ase studies. With the exeption of the projet and dissertation modules, all modules are assessed though a ombination of methods: a written exam and oursework that an take a variety of forms. All students enrolled on a module study the same materials and sit the same examinations. Mark Interpretation % Distintion 60-69% Merit 50-59% Pass Failing ategories: 40-49% Work below threshold standard
3 0-39% Unsatisfatory Work For Masters Degrees To qualify for Distintion, students must gain an overall average of 70 or more over 180 redits and a mark of 60 or more for the dissertation, and must not have any mark below 40. To qualify for Merit, students must gain an overall average of 60 or more over 180 redits and a mark of 50 or more for the dissertation, and must not have any mark below 40. To qualify for a Pass, students must gain an overall average of 50 or more over 180 redits and a mark of 50 or more for the dissertation. In addition, the total redit value of all modules marked below 40 must not exeed 30 redits and of all modules marked below 50 must not exeed 55 redits. In addition, no mark may be below 40 in modules of speial signifiane, MMM122 Priniples of HRM, MMM079 Comparative HRM, MMM080 Managing Transformation, MMM081 International HRM and MMM082 Projet in International HRM. For PG Diploma To qualify for Distintion, students must gain an overall average of 70 or more over 120 redits and must not have any mark below 40. To qualify for Merit, students must gain an overall average of 60 or more over 120 redits and must not have any mark below 40. To qualify for Pass students must gain an overall average of 50 or more over 120 redits. In addition, the total redit value of all modules marked below 40 must not exeed 30 redits and of all modules marked below 50 must not exeed 55 redits. Students who are awarded the PG Diploma will not be judged to have ahieved the standard required to apply for CIPD membership if they do not attain a pass mark of 50 in all 5 modules of speial aademi signifiane and pass the examinations in the relevant taught modules with a mark of at least 50%. For PG Certifiate To qualify for a Postgraduate Certifiate, students must gain an overall average of 50 or more over 60 redits. In addition, the total redit value of all modules marked below 40 must not exeed 10 redits. Students who are awarded the PG ertifiate will not be judged to have ahieved the learning outomes required to apply for CIPD membership. Admission requirements Entrants to this programme are normally required to have obtained a first degree the equivalent of a British upper seond lass honours degree. Degrees an be in any disipline but for appliants whose first language is not English, proof of profiieny is required. IELTS sore of 7 with no elements below 6.5 or equivalent is the usual requirement. Referenes are also taken into aount. Aeptane onto the programme is at the disretion of the Diretor of Studies and the Faulty Diretor of Teahing & Learning. Cases where GMAT is reommended: GMAT is not in the admission requirements for this program. However, it may be useful for appliants if they have been out of eduation for more than a few years. Admissions Tutor: Dr Liz Houldsworth Support for students and their learning University support for students and their learning falls into two ategories. Learning support is provided by a wide array of servies aross the University, inluding: the University Library, the Careers, Plaement and Experiene Centre (CPEC), In-sessional English Support Programme, the Study Advie and Mathematis Support Centre teams, IT Servies and the Student Aess to Independent Learning (S@il) omputer-based teahing and learning failities. There are language laboratory failities both for those students studying on a language degree and for those taking modules offered by the Institution-wide Language Programme. Student guidane and welfare support is provided by Personal Tutors, Shool Senior Tutors, the Students' Union, the Medial Pratie and advisers in the Student Servies Centre. The Student Servies Centre is housed in the Carrington Building and offers advie on aommodation, areers, disability, finane, and wellbeing, aademi issues (eg problems with module seletion) and exam related queries. Students an get key information and guidane from the team of Helpdesk Advisers, or make an appointment with a speialist adviser; Student
4 Servies also offer drop-in sessions and runs workshops and seminars on a range of topis. Blakboard is used to manage teahing and learning and to monitor student progress for full-time, flexible learning and distane learning students. Career prospets Due to its strong emphasis in International Human Resoure Management, it is likely that large firms operating internationally ould be seen as attrative potential employers. This programme builds on very strong rossshool foundations in the areas of Managing People and International Business. Students may opt to build on element of the programme by undertaking an additional period of study (and additional fee) to omplete the Henley Certifiate in Failitation. Opportunities for study abroad or for plaements There are urrently no opportunities to study abroad within this programme. However there may be opportunities for projet work in assoiation with the Henley HR Centre of Exellene. Programme Outomes Knowledge and Understanding A. Knowledge and understanding of: 1. Support is provided via virtual learning environment. Skills and other attributes Unseen examinations and oursework omprising of long essays. Seminar presentations are also used as a means of assessment in some modules. In order to gain Henley Certifiate in Failitation and Team Coahing student must omplete VLE ativities. B. Disussion in letures and seminars emphasises the use of statistial and empirial evidene and the strengths and weaknesses in alternative theories, methodologies, and international business praties. 1-4 are ahieved through letures, seminars, presentations, ase studies, and group exerises. Pratial skills are introdued in letures, developed in supporting/ group work ativities and tutorials and reinfored by supervised projet work. D. Transferable skills - able to: 1. Utilise problem-solving skills in a variety of theoretial and pratial situations. 4. Take responsibility for personal and professional learning and development (personal Development Planning). 6. Manage time, prioritise workloads and manage personal emotions and stress. 7. Communiation, presentation and team-working skills are speifially important for work in HRM.
