2 University of California, Santa Barbara A SUMMARY OF CENTER PROJECTS DURING 2010 Education Building, Room 2226, 2228, 2230 The is a community of researchers devoted to developing a better understanding of the role of school engagement as a protective force in children's lives and that promotes academic, social, emotional, and physical well-being. The Center was formed in 2002 through the Gevirtz Funds for Excellence from the generosity of the Ambassador Don Gevirtz and his wife Marilyn Gevirtz. Mission The Center s mission is to engage in research that informs educators how to enhance school engagement and thereby promote all students social and academic competence. Scholars promote the mission of the Center through research, grant preparation, project evaluation, journal editorship, consultation, community networking, conference presentations, and manuscript preparation Annual Report 2
