SEMINARY INTERNSHIP PROGRAM A Guide to Internships and Mentoring
WHO ARE WE? We are a part of a global network whose history goes all the way back to the ancient Church via the missionary work of the Church of England (also known as the Anglican Church. We aren t English per se (though we don t mind the English), but we share the beliefs and structure of the ancient church as it was restored and preserved by the 16 th c. English Protestant Reformation. We are a member of the Anglican Church in North America (ACNA) and ACNA s regional group of congregations established under the auspices of the Anglican Diocese of the South (ADOTS). WHAT DO WE DO? Our MISSION is to glorify God the Father through knowing His Son, Jesus Christ, and making Him known, by the power of the Holy Spirit. Every SUNDAY, we listen to the Word preached, we sing and pray in order to worship God through the Spirit, and we celebrate the Holy Communion. Some of our other MINISTRIES include: children s ministry, youth ministry, pastoral care, small groups, and intercessory/healing prayer ministry. Our outreach ministries include Family Promise of Birmingham and our support of Boy Scout Troop 73. We also provide support to several local ministries as well as the global Anglican Relief and Development Fund (ARDF).

Students interested in becoming interns are encouraged to begin attending in order to get to know the church members, clergy, and staff before beginning an internship. All seminary students who regularly attend St. Peter s will be given the opportunity to intern here as positions become available. What types of internships are available?
When available, we offer internships in youth ministry, children s ministry, worship ministry, and ministry support. In addition, there are other roles depending upon a candidate's interests and gifting. Are there any qualifications for becoming an intern? Interns must be faithful followers of Jesus and committed to the ministry and vision of our church. Specific internships may require experience in certain ministerial roles, but all prospective interns are encouraged to inquire about internships regardless of past experience. What if you do not know what you want to do? St. Peter s is committed to training up leaders in the Church, and we know from experience that some prospective interns will benefit from mentoring in order to help discern their place in ministry. Our pastor and the Leadership Development Team will assist you as you seek God s wisdom. St. Peter s will give you ministry opportunities in various arenas to help you discern your personal gifting. Do interns get paid? We offer both paid and unpaid internships, depending upon availability and the gifting, experience, and interest of the intern. Generally, interns start out on an unpaid basis and move into paid positions, when available. How many hours per week do interns work? Most interns are hired by the church to work 10 hours per week, depending on the position. Are schedules flexible for interns, or are their hours completely determined by church staff? Certain intern positions may require specific hours, but interns also have flexibility in their schedules. All interns are expected to attend the church staff meeting each Monday morning at 10:00.
