Commercial & Industrial Energy Efficiency Programs A Presentation by: Randy Vagnini, Sr. Energy Engineer Conservation and Load Management Department, Connecticut Light & Power September 6, 2012
Energy Efficiency in Connecticut Energize Connecticut is the state s new branding initiative to help consumers save money and use clean, affordable energy. Energize Connecticut programs are a partnership of the Energy Efficiency Fund, the Clean Energy Finance and Investment Authority, and local electric and gas utilities Energy efficiency is a valuable resource for Connecticut, it: Reduces air pollutants and greenhouse gases Saves customers money Reduces need for more energy generation Creates jobs Program funding: Electric customers pay 3 mills per kilowatt-hour Natural gas programs are funded through gas utility bills and approved by the Public Utilities Regulatory Authority 2

Retrofit Programs Energy Opportunities (EO) Small Business Energy Advantage (SBEA) 15
Energy Opportunities (EO) Encourages customers to replace functioning equipment with more energyefficient options Provides incentives to customers who install electric and/or natural gas measures Prescriptive incentives are used where available 16
EO Incentives Interior and exterior lighting Up to 35% installed cost High performance lighting Up to 40% installed cost Custom measures Up to 40% installed cost Energy management systems Up to 40% installed cost 17
Eligible LED Products LED products eligible for incentives are categorized into two groups: Group A ENERGY STAR Group B DesignLights Consortium Each group covers different LED product types LED products must be listed in order to qualify for incentives 18
Comprehensive Initiative The Comprehensive Initiative is designed to increase the depth and breadth of energy efficiency projects being implemented by customers Criteria: Energy savings from at least two end uses (gas and/or electric) and at least two measures No single measure can represent > 85% of the project s value based on annual $ savings 19
Comprehensive Initiative Incentive is the lesser of: 50% incentive installed cost* The greater of: $0.50/kWh CL&P $1,500/summer peak kw PLUS $0.40/kWh UI $1,000/summer peak kw $6.00/CCF (ECB Gas Measures) or $3.50/CCF (EO Gas Measures)** *To be prorated between electric and gas projects based on annual $ savings **Only Applicable if gas measure(s) included in project. 20
Small Business Energy Advantage Provides cost effective, turnkey energysaving and retrofit opportunities for small commercial and industrial businesses CL&P and UI customers up to 200 kw average monthly demand are eligible CL&P municipal / government agency facilities up to 200 kw average monthly demand are eligible Utilizes pre-approved contractors to provide a no cost energy assessment and installation of energy-efficient measures 21
Small Business Energy Advantage Provides incentives to customers who install: Energy-efficient lighting and/or controls Refrigeration controls HVAC equipment replacements Compressed air systems Programmable T-stats VFD s Energy Management systems Various Gas measures Offers 0%, on-bill financing for qualifying customers 22
