Art Colony Association Middle School Art Competition Packet Dear Middle/Intermediate Art Educators, We welcome the participation of your students in the Art Colony Association's 4th Annual Middle School Art Competition, an education initiative offered by the producer of s. The competition culminates in an exhibition of the students artwork at the Memorial Park April 1-3, 2016. This is a rare and privileged opportunity for middle school students to: enter their art into a juried competition have their art displayed in public take part in some extraordinary educational programs associated with the contest win valuable prizes for themselves and for their schools How to Get In on This Awesome Contest! 1. Submit Competition Registration form between September 30-December 4, 2015 2. Promote student participation in classrooms see Middle School Art Competition Rules 3. Artwork may be submitted to the Art Colony Association office, January 25-30, 2016. a. Student Application and Permission Form must be firmly attached to the back of each piece of artwork submitted. b. Student ID cards must be attached to the back of the artwork submitted. 4. Art will be judged in February 2016. Winners will be notified by March 11, 2016 by by email to their teacher or district representative. Middle School Art Competition Packet Contents: 1. ID card for artwork Thank you for giving your middle/intermediate school students the occasion to participate in this competition for their age group, and gain exposure to people who share a love of art. Art Colony Association Middle School Art Competition Rules The Art Colony Association is hosting our 4th annual, 2-D, original art competition for Middle/Intermediate students in grades 5-8. Awards will be presented at the Memorial Park, April 1-3, 2016. Private schools, Charter schools, and public independent school districts are eligible to participate. Competition pieces will include: Drawing o Pencil, colored pencil, pastel, marker Painting o Watercolor, acrylic, tempera, oil Mixed media o Any combination of 2-D medium, excluding works in bas relief No 3-D art will be accepted. No art rendered with the aid of photo transfer, any mechanical processes or representation of existing images, copyrighted and including internet images other than secondary sources, will be accepted. All work must be the student s original composition and design. Deadlines: September 30 - December 4, 2015: Art teachers submit Registration Forms to indicate students participation in the 2016 Middle School Art Competition. Only artwork received in the Art Colony Association office by noon on January 30, 2016 deadline will be considered for judging. Artwork must be submitted by a district, private/charter school representative or art teacher. Drop off address for all artwork between January 25-30, 2016: Art Colony Association, Inc. 7026 Old Katy Road, Suite 221 Houston, TX 77024 713-521-0133 The artwork must be received by noon on the January 29, 2016 deadline Hours for delivery: Artwork will be accepted Monday-Friday, January 25-29, 2016 between 12:00-6:00 pm Saturday, January 30, 2016; 10:00 am-12:00 pm. Size: Artwork no larger than 16 x 22, including the mat/mounting. Limit: Each school may enter up to 20 pieces of art. Submission Format: ALL artwork must be matted or mounted. Paintings on stretched canvas or artboard do not need a mat, but must have a hanging device. Artwork must be fixed. Artwork must NOT be covered with laminates, acetate, or shrink wrapped.

No 3D elements may be incorporated into the artwork. Only pieces that meet these format criteria will be accepted for judging. Judging Criteria: Judging will be based on: o Creativity o Subject o Composition o Use of medium o Artistic skill Artwork must be submitted by district, private/charter school representative or art teacher. Entry must be received by the January 30, 2016 deadline. Each entry must have a fully completed Student Application and Permission Form firmly attached to the back of the artwork. The artwork ID card must also be attached to the back of the artwork. All artwork must be the student s original idea, and only the student may work on the art. No art rendered with the aid of photo transfer, any mechanical processes or representation of copyright images will be accepted. Judging: All artwork will be judged by the Art Colony Association Program Committee s judging panel. An independent jury will select the top three winners from the group. The judges results are final. The top 30 Finalist will be posted for web-based voting to determine the People's Choice Award. Online voting will take place from February 22 through March 9, 2016. One vote per person per day. Winners: The top three winners and the People's Choice Award will be notified through their art teachers on March 11, 2016. Winners, their families, art teachers and supervisors will be invited to attend the Memorial Park on Sunday, April 3rd, 2016. Artwork on Display: All student artwork meeting the submission guidelines will be on display at The Spring Street Studios, 1824 Spring Street, Houston TX, 77007 on February 5 through February 13, 2016. More details will be emailed later. Artwork from all 30 finalists will be on display during the Memorial Park, April 1-3, 2016. The 30 finalist artworks will be posted online for People s Choice Award for web-based voting. Awards: All participants will receive o Certificate of participation o (2) Admission tickets to the Memorial Park 2016 o Invitation to artwork exhibit at judging sight, Spring Street Studios

Top 30 Finalists will also receive o Invitation to a special reception and Q & A time with an artist at the Memorial Park on Sunday, April 3rd, 2016. o Finalist ribbon The Top Three Winners will also receive: o $50 art supply gift certificate o Scholarship for a one-week art class at Museum of Fine Arts Houston s Glassell Junior School of Art in Summer 2016 o Winner Ribbon o Recognition in a ribbon presentation at the Memorial Park on Sunday, April 3rd, 2016 o The schools where each of the top three winners attend will receive art supply gift certificate of $300 for first place, $200 for second place and a $100 for third place. In the event there is more than one winner in a single school, only one art supply gift certificate will be awarded per school. o The district or charter/private school representative for each of the top three winners will receive two admission tickets for the Memorial Park 2016 (two tickets per representative). All prizes, except for top three winners ribbons, will be administered through the student s art teacher. All submitted art must be picked up by the students art teacher at the Art Colony Association, Inc., 7026 Old Katy Road, Suite 221, Houston, TX 77024. April 12-15, 2016; 12-6 pm April 16, 2016 between; 10am-12 pm Please call 713-521-0133 to ensure someone will be at the office. No artwork will be returned via mail.
