1 Dear School Administrator, The Wisconsin Electronic Security Association (WIESA), an official chartered chapter of the national Electronic Security Association (ESA), is pleased to announce the availability of college scholarship awards available to sons and daughters of active-duty police and fire personnel. The scholarship awards, both in the amount of $1,000, are available to qualified high schools seniors. The rules for eligibility are contained in this mailing. WIESA has over 50 members throughout Wisconsin. Our members are companies that sell, design, install, maintain and monitor electronic burglar and fire alarm systems, CCTV systems, intercom and access control systems. This scholarship award is a small way for our industry to say Thank You to our very dedicated public safety community and to help pay for an advanced education for deserving students. Please publicize this scholarship opportunity to your employees. A copy of the requirements and application are included with this letter. They can be copied and disseminated as much as needed. Another exciting aspect of this scholarship is that the first place winner from our state is eligible for the national scholarship awards. The Electronic Security Association Youth Scholarship program awards four college scholarships. The first place national winner receives $10,000, the second place award winner receives $5,000, the third place winner receives $3,500 and the fourth place winner receives $1,500. We are happy to provide this opportunity to two deserving students, and look forward to assisting you in any way. If you have questions, please contact Maureen Mecham at Sincerely, Maureen E. Mecham Wisconsin Electronic Security Association Scholarship Committee
2 WIESA Youth Scholarship Program 2013 Applicant Information This program was created to promote goodwill among the electronic systems industry and police and the fire officials by providing college scholarship awards to their deserving sons or daughters. We are dedicated to representing, promoting, and supporting the electronic life safety, security and systems industry. Member companies specialize in a wide spectrum of services to commercial and residential customers, including security and fire alarms, video surveillance, access control and monitoring. In cooperation with the national Electronic Security Association (ESA) we provide government advocacy and deliver timely information, professional development tools, products and services that members use to grow and prosper their businesses. WIESA may be reached at (866) or on the Web at Celebrating its 16 th year, the Youth Scholarship Program has provided thousands of dollars to students attending higher education institutions across our country. In fact, more than $300,000 has been given out by the participating states and ESA. Today, ESA and participating Charted Chapter Associations are involved in the scholarship program. The first place winner of each state s program is automatically considered for the national ESA Youth Scholarship Program awards. Students who reside in a participating state must enter their statelevel scholarship program to be considered for national awards. Students who reside in a state without an ESA chapter or in a non-participating state should submit their applications directly to ESA. ESA will select one of these students as the national nominee to compete with the state winners. This student will be awarded a $1,000 scholarship. (See page 3 of this application for a list of participating states as of September Check the ESA web site at or call (888) for new participating states.) The WIESA program awards two scholarships. Both scholarships are valued at $1, One to the son/daughter of an active Wisconsin fire department employee and the other $1, scholarship awarded to the son/daughter of an active Wisconsin police department employee. Winners for the WIESA scholarships will be chosen on April 11 th, The grand prize winner will be chosen at this time from the two finalists and that winner will be forwarded to ESA for entry into the ESA Youth Scholarship Program. Winners will be chosen for the national ESA awards on May 6 th, The first place winner of the national ESA Youth Scholarship Program receives $10,000, the second prize winner receives $5,000, the third prize winner receives $3,500 and the fourth place winner receives $1,500 to put towards their college education.
