Welcome to the Institute of Leadership of the Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland. Here, our mission is to develop excellent leaders and managers so that patients receive the best healthcare possible. The Institute is Ireland s only third level institution dedicated exclusively to developing the leadership and management competencies of health professionals. The RCSI has educated leaders in the health professions for over 220 years and the Institute builds on this tradition by developing the healthcare leaders of tomorrow. Doctors, nurses, pharmacists, scientists, allied health professionals, researchers and administrators take our courses. In 2005, we established the Institute of Leadership, Ireland s only third level institution, dedicated exclusively to developing the leadership, management and educational capacity of health professionals and their organisations Whilst the Institute is an accredited academic institution, we maintain close connections with the worlds of healthcare delivery and higher education. Because healthcare is now so complex and changing so rapidly, health professionals must be capable of contributing to the ongoing development of their organisations. In collaboration with your manager and supervisor, you will select a project designed to produce a positive outcome for your organisation. You will use your learning from Year 1, together with that from a series of Year 2 seminars dealing with change. Assessment Case studies, individual and team assignments, presentations, reports, posters, reflections, exams and an action research project. You will be supported through this process by your supervisor and by a series of Action Learning Sets in which you will work with a small group of your classmates in a mutually supportive environment. The project draws heavily on your learning and provides you with the opportunity to apply the knowledge and skills you acquire to a real situation. As such, it reflects the practical philosophy of the Institute which seeks to integrate theory and practice for the benefit of patients.

RCSI DUBAI PROSPECTUS 13 Community Engagement at the Institute Community Engagement is about bridging the gap between academia and the community by working with people and organisations in ways that enable them to reach their full potential while also producing tangible benefits for services and systems. Our current projects which focus on the community include: Africa: Council of Surgeons of East Central and Southern Africa (COSECSA). Provision of training and development for surgeons in 10 Sub-Saharan countries to enable them to develop the infrastructure for surgical training. RCSI DUBAI PROSPECTUS 17 Admission Requirements Admissions Criteria and Processes Overview The Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland Dubai MSc programmes are accredited by the Commission for Academic Accreditation (CAA) on behalf of the United Arab Emirates Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research (MOHESR). They are also accredited by the National University of Ireland. The following criteria are specified by the CAA. Degree and Cumulative Grade Point Average (cgpa) Applicants must have a primary degree. Applicants should have a cgpa of at least 3.0 on a 0-4 point scale, from their degree. Applicants who have a cgpa of below 3.0 on a 4.0 point scale, from their degree, may be admitted for the first two modules of the MSc programmes. If the applicant achieves an average cgpa of at least 3.0 on a 0-4 scale, for these two modules, they may progress with the MSc programme. Gaining an Equivalency Certificate/Attestation 1. All primary degrees awarded outside of the United Arab Emirates, or that are not on the UAE MOHESR approved list, must be assessed for equivalency by the MOHESR. 2. MOHESR staff will guide you through the requirements of the process. Please note that, depending on the country from which you obtained your primary degree, this process can take a considerable amount of time. You are advised to start the process as early as possible. 4. Holders of primary degrees obtained within the UAE are required to have their degrees attested by MOHESR. English Proficiency Requirement 1. A TOEFL score of at least 550 on the paper-based, 213 on the computer based or 79 on the internetbased test, or the equivalent score on another standardised test approved by MOHESR, such as an IELTS score of 6.0 or PTE-A (Pearson Test of English- Academic) score of 50-57 is required for admission to the MSc programmes. 2. There are two exceptions to the above: a. If you are a native speaker of English and have completed your undergraduate education in an English medium institution in a country where English is the official language. b. If you were admitted to and graduated from an English medium institution and can provide evidence that you acquired a minimum TOEFL score of 500 on the paper based test (or its equivalent on another standardised test approved by MOHESR) upon admission to your undergraduate programme. 3. Applicants may be admitted, under provisional status, to the MSc programmes provided they have a TOEFL score of at least 530 on the paper-based test, 197 on the computer based test or 71 on the internet based test (or its equivalent using a standardised test approved by MOHESR). Applicants may complete two modules of the MSc programme, after which they must submit a TOEFL score of at least 550 on the paper-based test or its equivalent. 4. Please note that English proficiency tests are valid for 2 years after they are taken. Your result must be in date and your name must be on the database of the relevant testing organization at the time of application.

Download the application form available at www.rcsileadership.org or collect one from the RCSI- Dubai campus. 2. Complete the application form and return it to the address below: Admissions office, Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland Dubai, P.O. Box 505095, Dubai Healthcare City, Dubai U.A.E. Course Commencement MSc programmes commence in autumn. Currently, there is one intake per year. Duration of MSc Programmes The MSc programmes can be completed in a minimum of two academic years. However, participants have the flexibility of completing their MSc programme within a 2 5 year timeframe. Please note that programme fees of the re-entry year will apply. An administrative fee will also apply. Participants who successfully complete the first year of our MSc programmes and are unable to continue with their studies, can exit with an internationally recognised Postgraduate Diploma. Programme Design All MSc programmes are modular. In Year 2, participants complete a change management project in their workplaces and this is worth 3 modules. Year 2 projects are supported by seminars, workshops, tutorials and facilitation sessions. Year 2 interactions are held only on weekend days.
