At the heart of this transformation is philosophically changing the way educational institutions are delivering instruction. During the course of my career in education, I have had the opportunity to implement both a Bring Your Own Device (BYOD) and a 1:1 program. While there are significant differences between the approaches, my experience implementing these programs has uncovered some foundational characteristics common between the two that will determine success or failure. In this session, I will discuss these foundational characteristics and share my experiences, successes, and failures over the past 6 years leading digital conversions in two school districts. A discussion will take place on how to best leverage those funds to meet the needs of increasing bandwidth and connectivity to adopt digital learning strategies and one to one device initiatives. In addition, the session will provide creative suggestions for how to lower the total cost of ownership for services that have been removed or phased out from the E-rate program.
