WHY STUDY ACU LAW New Programs Students are able to undertake a law degree alone, or combined with a degree in arts, business administration, commerce, global studies or theology. Dual degrees are a great way to broaden your knowledge base and tailor your education to maximise your employment opportunities. Global Focus Recognising the role lawyers can play in international commerce and diplomacy, ACU s law programs have a distinctive international flavour. All students will be required to undertake internationally focused subjects throughout their program to build their capacity to engage internationally. ACU is globally connected, and has relationships with a wide range of overseas Universities which law students can attend on exchange. They can work in community programs around the world all while receiving credit towards their degree. Ethical and Practical An ACU law degree is about teaching students to think critically and ethically and be guided by social justice principles. Induction Week The ACU Induction Week (LIW) will be held at the Melbourne and Sydney campuses in February. LIW offers students a unique introduction to the study of law through introductory law lectures, mooting, court visits, legal profession events and social activities. It is designed to equip students with the skills and knowledge essential to their legal studies and future careers. We have been given the opportunity to create a unique and personalised Faculty- that joins academic excellence with social commitment. My job is to ensure that we capitalise on this opportunity and establish a law faculty that will be recognised nationally and acknowledged internationally. I invite you to join us. Dr Heather Forrest, Associate Dean, Learning and Teaching Dr Heather Ann Forrest is a Senior Lecturer and the Associate Dean, Learning & Teaching, in the Faculty of. She holds a Juris Doctor from the College of William & Mary, the oldest law school in the ed States. Her doctoral thesis, undertaken at the University of Bern, Switzerland, received the highest distinction of honours. She is considered an expert in the area of internet domain name policy and represents intellectual property interests in internet policy development. The size of the cohort, the attention to detail given to the curriculum and its support of ACU s values, and the tremendous passion with which the academic staff approach both teaching and research create a unique learning environment in which both students and staff thrive. Professor Spencer Zifcak, Associate Dean, Research Spencer Zifcak is Allan Myers Professor of and Associate Dean (Research) in the Faculty. Spencer specializes in the fields of international law, international human rights law and constitutional law. He received his Ph.D from the London School of Economics and Political Science (LSE). The Faculty has great strengths in intellectual property and commercial law on the one hand and human rights and social justice on the other. And our small classes mean that every student s education will have a distinctly social and personal character.
