Hi-Hope Service Center July 2012 Fourth of July Party is a Big Hit! It felt like a day at the ballpark when cheers erupted the minute Chopper, the mascot of the Gwinnett Braves entered the Hi-Hope Service Center. Hot dogs and chicken sandwiches were in plentiful supply for the annual Fourth of July party which was held on July 3 rd. Hi-Hope participants enjoyed the sandwiches and hot dogs donated by Longhorn Steakhouse in the cafeteria as well as sides which were prepared and served by the Hi- Hope Staff and members of the Family Advisory Board which included: Amber Spiler, Rubye Neal, Sue and Dick Russell, Dianne Dougherty, Mary Ellen Manno, Margaret Loggins, Claude Waters, Joyce Todman, and Diane Simmons. Chopper added some Fourth of July fun by bringing the G-Braves to Hi-Hope and giving out autographed cards to the participants. After lunch, the group celebrated with a special Talent Show to round out the afternoon. Thanks to all of our supporters who made the Fourth of July party a true reflection of a fun Independence Day! Client Council Elections bring in New Leadership Inspired by what is going on in the national election front, the clients of Hi- Hope recently held their own elections to vote for 12 people who will become members of the Client Council. The candidates running for office had to prepare election posters and understand the commitment to running for office. As Election Day neared, the clients got to think about who they would like to represent them. Each client got a set of 12 stickers to vote on their ballot so once they were out of stickers, they were out of votes. The participants put stickers next to the picture of the person they wanted to elect. One client s thoughtful criteria for voting included electing the candidates that he knew were good readers. The twelve members who were elected will meet once a month to discuss the concerns of the clients as well as offering ideas on activities and ways

to volunteer their time to help other charities. The term of the council lasts two years. Special thanks goes to Marie Sanon and Pat Satterfield who helped the clients make candidate posters, helped organize the event and gave our clients a chance to see democracy in action. Perimeter Church Youth Group Treasure their Gold Rush Days Each year, the Perimeter Church youth ministry hosts other youth groups from around the southeast to give their student leaders a chance to plan and do service projects for non-profits around Gwinnett County. This year, Hi-Hope was the recipient of their generous spirit during the Gold Rush Days July 10 to 12. On July 10, New Covenant Presbyterian from South Carolina helped our clients with various activities like putting together puzzles, bingo and art. They also did landscaping around the facility. On July 11 th, First Presbyterian from Alabama helped plant and weed flowers around the Indian Shoals residential home in spite of the fact that it started to rain. On the last day of their service projects, the Grace Community Church from Virginia set up a dance in the cafeteria along with crafts and helping in the art room. Afterwards, the group washed and cleaned the Hi-Hope vehicles. Erica Hettenbach and Emma Smiley were in charge of coordinating all three of the Gold Rush groups with the adult advisors Cherie Heringer, Marilyn Rhodes and Joy McClesky. Thanks to Perimeter Church for including Hi- Hope in their Gold Rush Days. Welcome to the Hi-Hope New Hires for June and July Beverly House Gina Artiles Angela Blue

Anytime you shop at one of 100's of participating retailers including Amazon, Target, Gap, Best Buy, Nordstrom and more a percentage of your total purchase will be donated to Hi- Hope, at no cost to you! Socialvest s goal is to find easy ways for you to give back just by doing something you already do - shop. To sign up and start earning money towards donations go to: https://www.socialvest.us/get-involved/register/hihopeservicecenter to sign up. You can download an app for your computer that will automatically tell you when you go on a shopping site, the percentage they give back and that amount after your purchase from a site like Amazon will go into your Socialvest account. You ll keep accumulating cash back in your Socialvest account as you shop at those sites. When you accumulate what you would like to donate, just click and your designated charity receives your donation. It also works with Facebook and you can invite

your friends to join and support Hi-Hope and their favorite causes at the same time. Give while you shop - it doesn t get any better than that! Best of Gwinnett Nominations The Hi-Hope Service Center has been nominated as Best Local Charity and Best Social or Charity Event for our 2012 Gala by the readers of Gwinnett Magazine but we need your help to win those coveted titles. Please click on the link to vote. You can also go under the categories..."family" to vote for Best Social or Charity Event and go under "Local" to vote for Best Local Charity. This is one case where it s perfectly okay to vote and vote often. The voting closes out in August. http://bestofgwinnett.com/votenow/ Hi-Hope Joins the Twitter Universe! Hi-Hope has added Twitter to its social networking in addition to regular posts on Facebook. If you would like to follow Hi-Hope Services Center on Twitter go to @HiHopeCenter.
