QUANTIFY INSTALLATION GUIDE Thank you for putting your trust in Avontus! This guide reviews the process of installing Quantify software. For Quantify system requirement information, please refer to the Quantify Systems Requirements document. To install Quantify, follow these basic steps, which are detailed in the sections below. Install SQL Server SQL Server 2012 Express, see the SQL Server 2012 Express section Install Quantify Database Tools, see the Install Database Tools section Create a database in SQL Server; see the Create a database section. Install the Quantify Client, see the Install Quantify Client section Activate the Quantify database, see the Activate the Quantify Database section Alternatively, Restore an Avontus provided database, see the Restore an Avontus provided database SQL Server 2012 Express SQL Server 2012 is a free application that may be downloaded from Microsoft if needed. If SQL Server is installed, continue with installing Database Tools. On the Client server, logged in as a User with Administrative privileges, download Microsoft SQL Server 2012 Express. http://www.microsoft.com/express/database/ this will launch the Download Center. Click the Download SQL Server 2012 Express button. Page 1
Install SQL Server 2012 with Tools Click the Download button to install SQL Server Express with tools. Choose either the 32-Bit or 64-Bit download and desired language as appropriate, then click the Download button. The Download Manager will launch and display the progress of the download. When the download has completed, click the Launch button. Page 2
1. If needed the SQL Server installer: SQLEXPRWT_xNN_ENU.exe (where NN is 64 or 86) may be launched manually from the location it was saved to your computer. 2. When the SQL Server Installation Center wizard opens, from the options, listed on the left of the wizard, select the option Installation. Then, choose New SQL Server stand-alone installation or add features to an existing installation. 3. SQL will now test to ensure SQL setup files can be installed. 4. Accept the License terms. Select <Next>. 5. Feature Selection page: Select the following SQL Features: - Database Engine Services - Management Tools Basic Click <Next> Page 3
6. <Install> to install the setup support files. 7. Instance Configuration: Select Default instance The name MSSQLSERVER will automatically populate in the Instance ID textbox. Click <Next> 8. Disk Space requirements will now be verified. 9. Server Configuration Set SQL Server Browser = Automatic Click <Next> 10. Database Engine Configuration: Set Authentication Mode to: Mixed Mode Set password = to desired password must meet SQL Server requirements Add any additional SQL Server Admins, as appropriate. Note: Current user is added, by default. Click <Next> Page 4
11. Error and Usage Reporting page: Click <Next> 12. Installation rules will be validated. Click <Next> If issues were detected, resolve issues and restart installation. 13. SQL Server 2012 installation will be performed. After installation completes, a confirmation dialog is issued. Click <Close> Note: If issues were detected, resolve issues and restart installation. 14. Restart the computer. Share SQL Server 2012 Instance 1. Launch Microsoft SQL Server 2012 / SQL Server Management Studio a. Set focus on main, Server, node b. Right-click & select Properties c. Select Connections page d. Check on Allow remote connections to this server e. OK to close Properties 1. Launch Microsoft SQL Server 2012 / Configuration Tools / SQL Server Configuration Manager a. Expand SQL Server Network Configuration node b. Select Protocols for MSSQLSERVER c. Select TCP/IP d. Change status to Enabled e. Select Named Pipes f. Change status to Enabled g. Select the SQL Server Services node h. Optional (as appropriate): set SQL Server (MSSQLSERVER) Log On As to LocalSystem i. Stop and restart the SQL Server (MSSQLSERVER) service Note: Client side issue: If users run with Windows Firewall on, Client IT dept needs to open port 1433. Install Database Tools Database Tools is an application that assists with the creation of the Quantify database. Database Tools may also be used to backup and restore your database. On the Client server, where SQL Server 2012 Express is installed: Download, install, and launch the latest version of Avontus Quantify Database Tools: http://www.avontus.com/products/quantify/installer/quantifydbtools.exe Create a Database Launch Database Tools from the Start Menu: All Programs > Avontus Quantify > Database Tools Page 5
The Quantify Database Tools dialog will launch. On the Database Backup/Restore tab, click the CREATE button. This will create an ASIRentalManager database instance in SQL Server. (Note: Tool Crib Setup tab will only display for Tool Crib editions of Quantify.) Click OK to the confirmation message. Click CLOSE to close Database Tools Install Quantify Client Download and install Quantify by navigating to the link below. http://www.avontus.com/products/quantify/installer/quantify.exe Login to Quantify Once the Quantify Client has been installed, login to Quantify. Until End-Users accounts are set up the Default Administrator account may be used. Username: Admin Password: password Activate the Quantify Database Launch Quantify by double-clicking on the Quantify 2012 desktop icon. Alternatively, launch from the START button: All Programs > Avontus Quantify > Quantify 2012 The Activate Quantify 2013 dialog launches. This dialog will be used to communicate with Avontus and request an activation code to activate this new database. If not, this dialog may be manually launched by selecting Activation Manager from the Help menu. Page 6
Select the REQUEST AN ACTIVATION CODE radio button. This will enable the COPY and EMAIL REQUEST buttons. If an email client is available on the computer or server: Click the EMAIL REQUEST button. The default email client will launch with an email ready to send to. If an email client is not available on the computer or server: Click the button. Then paste the copied encrypted text into an email. Send to. The encrypted text in the body of the email contains information regarding needed to activate your installation Page 7
of Quantify. Send the email as is. No additional identification or message is needed. Avontus will use this encrypted text to generate your activation code. The new Activation Code will be emailed to the same email address it originated from. The Activate Quantify 2012 dialog may be closed with the CANCEL button until the New Activation Code is received from Avontus. Activate Quantify with the New Activation Code The new activation code will be sent from Avontus through email to the same email address that originated the activation request email. The email will contain an encrypted activation code that will be copied and pasted into Quantify. Select all of the encrypted text. Suggested method: click somewhere in the body of the email and click CTRL+A. This will highlight ALL of the text. Next, copy the highlighted text to your computer. Suggested method: Click CTRL+C, (or right-click and select Copy from the rightclick menu). This will copy the selected text to your computer s memory. Page 8
Launch Quantify 2012. The Activate Quantify 2012 dialog launches. If not, this dialog may be launched manually by selecting Activation Manager from the Help menu. Select the ACTIVATE QUANTIFY WITH A NEW ACTIVATION CODE RADIO button. This will enable the ENTER NEW CODE button. Click the ENTER NEW CODE button. The new activation code received from Avontus will be pasted here. Suggested method: click CTRL+V (or rightclick and select Paste from the right-click menu). This will paste the copied encrypted text into the dialog. Click OK. The trial of Quantify has been activated. The Activate Quantify 2012 dialog now displays the trial expiration date and licensing information for Quantify. Click OK. Quantify will launch into the trial database. Restore a Avontus Provided Database If Avontus has built a Quantify database with your Company data to be used during the trial, then this database needs to be restored to the server. Follow these steps below to restore and use this database. Page 9
Launch Database Tools from the Start menu: All Programs > Avontus Quantify > Database Tools The Quantify Database Tools dialog will launch. Next Click the DELETE button. This will delete the new empty database. A confirmation message will be received. Click OK to the confirmation message. The database provided by Avontus can now be restored. Click the RESTORE button. This will launch the Restore Database dialog. Click the BROWSE button and navigate to the location of the database sent previously by Avontus. Click OK to begin the restore Quantify will display a Restore completed successfully message when the Restore is complete. Click OK on the completed message. Click OK on the Restore Database dialog. Launch Quantify. Quantify will launch into the restored database. Page 10
Activate the Restored Database Once the Avontus provided database has been restored to the server, it will need to be activated. Login to Quantify and paste the Avontus provided activation code. See Activation Quantify with new activation code section for additional details. Page 11
