The solid housing offers an excellent protection for your data. Because of the USB 2.0 connection you immediately profit from faster transfer speeds. The esata connector (EW7032) provides you with a maximum transfer rate of up to 3Gbps. Your hard disk can easily be mounted in to the housing, enabling you to use it anytime, anywhere.

Protective bag. 2.0 Installing a hard disk This chapter explains how to connect and install the EW7031/EW7032. Note! We recommend you to make a backup of the data on the hard disk you wish to use. Ewent can not be held responsible for any loss of or damage to data resulting in the use of this device or software. Follow these steps to install a hard disk: 1. Pull out the back panel of the enclosure. 2. Connect the SATA plug on the front panel to the hard disk. 3. Slide the hard disk into the enclosure. 4. Use the small screws to fasten the back panel to the enclosure.
4 ENGLISH 3.0 Connecting by USB cable You can connect both EW7031 and EW7032 to your computer using the USB connection cable. If you want to connect your EW7032 using the esata cable you do not need to use the USB connection cable and you can go to the next chapter. 1. Turn off your computer. 2. Connect the double USB type A plug to two free USB ports on your computer. 3. Connect the USB connection cable to the housing. (2) 4. Turn on your computer. Windows will automatically recognize the housing. 4.0 Connecting by esata cable (EW7032) Follow these instructions to connect your EW7032 to your computer using the esata cable. You do not need to use the USB connection cable. 1. Turn off your computer. 2. Connect the esata cable to the esata port on your computer. 3. Connect the esata cable to the housing. (3) 4. Connect the USB power cable to the housing. (4) 5. Turn on your computer. If all is well, Windows will automatically recognize the housing. 5.0 Preparing your hard disk for usage Note! The steps below are only necessary if you use a new hard disk.
5 ENGLISH 5.1 Windows 2000/ XP/Vista/7/8 1. Right click the My Computer icon. 2. Click Manage. 3. Select the option Disk Management from the left side of the screen. 4. Right click the new hard disk. 5. Select Initialize. 6. Click Ok. 7. Right click the new hard disk. 8. Click New Partition. 9. Click Next. 10. Click Next. 11. Click Next. 12. Choose the desired partition size (Note: when using FAT32 the partition size is limited to 32GB). 13. Click Next. 14. Select the drive letter you wish to assign to this partition (this is not required). 15. Click Next. 16. Select the desired file system: FAT32 or NTFS. If you will only use the hard disk for Windows XP or Vista systems we recommend you to select the NTFS file system. 17. Enter a name for the new partition in the field 'Volume label'. 18. Check Quick format and click Next. 19. Click Next. 20. Click Finish. 5.2 Mac OS X 1. Open Finder in your Dock by clicking it. 2. Click Applications in the left menu of the Finder. 3. Click the Utilities folder in the right part of the Finder. 4. Click the Disk Utility icon in the right part of the Finder. 5. Select the new USB disk in the left list of the Disk Utility. 6. Click the Partition tab in the right part of the Disk Utility. 7. Select 1 partition as the partitioning scheme. Note: If you will only use the hard disk for Mac OS systems, we recommend you to choose Mac OS X Extended as the file system. If you need to use the disk on both Mac and Windows systems, you can choose the FAT32 file system. 8. Click the Partition button to partition the disk. 9. After several minutes, the partitioning should be completed. 10. Your EW7031/EW7032 is now ready for use.
6 ENGLISH 6.0 Using the EW7031/EW7032 This chapter explains how to start using the EW7031/EW7032 in combination with several operating systems. 6.1 Windows 2000/XP/Vista/7/8 Normally you should be able to plug in your EW7031/EW7032 when the computer is switched on. After you connect the EW7031/EW7032, Windows will automatically find and install the drivers and all partitions will be available through My Computer or through Windows Explorer. Note: Make sure you must safely remove the EW7031/EW7032 from your computer. Click Safely remove hardware icon on the taskbar and you will see al list of devices. Click the device you want to remove. 6.2 Mac OS X Normally you should be able to plug in your EW7031/EW7032 when the Mac is switched on. After you connect the EW7031/EW7032, OS X will automatically find and install the drivers. The extra partitions will be available through the new icon on the desktop. 7.0 Installing and using the backup software The EW7031/EW7032 is equipped with a so-called One-Touch-Backup function. This function allows you to make a backup or copy of selected files by the touch of a button. You yourself can determine which files need to be copied, using the OTB software. 7.1 Installation of the OTB software 1. Insert the supplied CD-ROM into the CD-ROM or DVD-ROM drive of your computer. 2. The CD-ROM will start automatically. 3. Select the preferred language and click Next. 4. Select Install Software and click Next. 5. Choose English and click Next. 6. Click Next. 7. Click Install. 8. The software will now be installed. 9. Click Finish. 10. Click Close and then Yes to leave the install menu. 11. The software has now been installed.
7 ENGLISH 7.2 Using the OTB software 1. Click Start. 2. Click Programs or All Programs. 3. Click OTB_util. 4. Right click OTB_util and click Run as Administrator. The software will now be started. 5. In the upper menu you can choose from which location you wish to copy the files, also called Copy From. 6. In the lower menu you can choose where to copy the files to, also called Copy To. 7. Press the BACKUP button on the back of the housing once. The software or files which you selected will now be copied to the hard disk in the housing. 8.0 Service and support This users manual has been carefully written by Ewent s technical experts.
