Georgia State University Birth Through Five (B-5) Program STAR Scholarship Grant funds have established scholarships for students to complete the Bachelor of Science in Birth Through Five (B-5) at Georgia State University. The following guidelines for the distribution of available STAR Scholarship funds are as follows: 1. There will be limited and competitive funding for scholarships awarded for the fall, 2014 semester. The scholarship will cover costs of tuition, fees, a textbook allowance, a laptop computer, and program fees for the five terms to complete the B-5 program. 2. The criteria for receiving the scholarships are listed below. Scholarship Criteria: Student must be a graduate of the Early Childhood Care and Education (ECCE) degree program from an accredited technical college in the Technical College System of Georgia (TCSG). Preference will be given to ECCE graduates from Atlanta Technical College, Georgia Piedmont Technical College (formerly DeKalb Technical College) and Gwinnett Technical College, as partners in the grant. Student must have a minimum 3.2 GPA (in ECCE major); 2.75 GPA overall Student must have completed Area A - E in the university core curriculum or equivalent by end of summer term, 2013. (Graduates from ECCE degree programs will have satisfied the requirements for all six courses in Area F for the B-5 program); see Transfer Guide for Technical College Students Student has applied and been accepted for admission to GSU Student has completed the Birth Through Five (B-5) teacher education program application. (A departmental interview and writing sample will be scheduled for all applicants who submit a completed packet by the deadline). Student shows a pattern of service, community involvement or professional leadership (for example, in volunteerism, student organizations) Student must have a letter of recommendation from the Technical College supervisor of her/his early childhood internship\ Student must have a letter of recommendation from the Head/Director of a community agency/organization that has knowledge of her/his volunteer service. Student must be available for placement in a metro-atlanta early care center up to 20 hours per week throughout the program. Scholarship Application Deadline: June 1, 2014 The B-5 STAR Scholarship Committee will review all complete applications and notify all applicants, via email, of their decisions. If a scholarship is awarded, the student understands that if there are any issues with the award, that she/he will be contacted by a representative of the awarding unit. The amount of the scholarship that a student is eligible for is based on the student s enrollment status and financial aid received from other sources (for example, Hope scholarship, Pell grant, etc.).
