Please note that Berklee signs leases at Park LaBrea based on the number of students that commit to participating in the Summer Internship Program in Los Angeles during a specific semester. Unlike other courses that may be added and dropped from a student s schedule until the end of the add/drop period, once a student has signed and submitted the form that is mailed to ACCEPTED students and then submitted to the Office of Experiential Learning, at that point the student has committed to participating in the program. If a participants change his/her mind after that time and decides to participate in a later semester or drop out of the program all together, they will be charged a fee for housing space. The information regarding the fee structure is outlined below. 2

3 Note: Completing an initial application for the Summer Internship Program in Los Angeles is not a guarantee of acceptance, nor does it bind you to participate in the program. Charges for students dropping out of program or deferring to a later semester (after submitting signed form included in acceptance packet committing to participating during a specific semester): Up to 90 days before the first day of Check In forfeit $500 deposit Between 90 days and 60 days before first day of Check In forfeit $500 deposit plus additional $500 charge Between 60 days and 30 days before first day of Check In forfeit $500 deposit plus additional $1000 charge Between 30 days and the first day of Check In forfeit $500 deposit plus additional $2000 charge As of the first day of Check In forfeit $500 deposit plus additional charge of entire amount of housing cost for the semester Tuition: The tuition fees will cover tuition for the internship course. If this waiver is not provided to Berklee College of Music by the school s deadline, you will be charged an additional fee for Berklee s health insurance package. Additional Costs: The costs of transportation to and from Los Angeles, transportation in Los Angeles, meals, laundry, books, phone, internet, and personal items are the responsibility of the student and not included in the program cost. Logistics Internships: Internships are available in all areas of the music industry in Los Angeles. The Office of Experiential Learning staff will assist you in securing an internship in Los Angeles. While participating in this program, students are required to intern for the duration of the time they are in Los Angeles and complete a minimum of 140 hours (IN-492) or 300 hours (IN- 497). Although some students will secure an internship prior to their arrival in Los Angeles, many will interview in person in Los Angeles and secure the internship upon arrival. This is normal. However, students must begin applying for internships through the Office of Experiential Learning as soon as they are accepted into the program while still in Boston. The internship courses include both a work and academic component. More details about the academic requirements of the internship will be provided at orientation. Students enrolled in an LA Internship (IN-492 OR IN-497) earn a grade (A-F) just like in any other Berklee course. Registration Procedure: Students accepted into the program will be asked to submit a $500 program deposit to hold a spot in the program and fill out a form confirming their attendance in the program. Once a participant submits their deposit and returns the form to the Office of Experiential Learning, we will enter registration waivers so that the student may register for the internship course during Berklee s registration period. This registration will trigger automatic billing for the entire program cost that includes tuition, housing, and other fees. Housing: Students attending the Berklee College of Music Summer Internship Program in Los Angeles are required** to live in the Park LaBrea housing complex, located at 6200 West Third Street, Los Angeles, CA Each student will be sharing (usually with three other students) a fully furnished two-bedroom, two-bathroom apartment that includes a 3

4 kitchen. Linen, kitchen supplies, utilities (not phone, cable and internet), as well as other accessories are included in the housing package. For specifics on what is included, please see the Park LaBrea Housewares Package sheet. Support While in LA: The Office of Experiential Learning is available as a resource to participants throughout the duration of the program. Berklee s Alumni Regional Representative, Justine Taormino, is available to assist students on the ground in LA. Justine plans and oversees the weekly professional workshops that are part of the internship courses and is available to assist in emergency situations. Park LaBrea also employs an exceptional staff who are there to help with any maintenance needs that may occur in the apartments. **A Housing Waiver Petition form is available if you are aged 24 or older, have a parent/guardian that lives in Los Angeles County, or if you have a disability that requires accommodations that Park LaBrea is not able to provide. See the Office of Experiential Learning for more details and to obtain a petition form to submit with your program application. Completing the Housing Waiver Petition is not a guarantee of housing waiver. Each situation will be evaluated on an individual basis and the candidate will be notified of the decision at the time of program acceptance.
