Accessing TP SSL VPN This guide describes the steps to install, connect and disconnect the SSL VPN for remote access to TP intranet systems using personal notebooks. A. Installing the SSL VPN client Junos Pulse Step 1: Open the Internet Explorer browser and type in the web site https://vpn.tp.edu.sg. Please note: Windows Internet Explorer is strongly recommended for the VPN installation and login access to work. Step 2: Once the website has been loaded, you will be presented with an authentication page as shown below. Please type in the username, password (as your TP email username, password) and select the realm. If you are a student, please select Student Windows. Click on the Login button to authenticate the SSL VPN. Please note: The login ID and password will be your email ID and password. Step 3: During the initial login, SSL VPN will install a series of applications. Click Install and accept the installation of the VPN client program. The below message may pop up during the installation. Please click Allow. Step 4: It is a requirement for the SSL VPN to do security validation checks on the end user s computing device known as host. In order to do so, the host checker application is required to be installed. Follow the instructions to install the host checker application. You will be presented the following screen. 1

Step 5: Click on Continue, Run then Always as prompted as shown in the figures 5.1 to 5.3. Figure 5.1 Figure 5.2 2

Figure 5.3 Step 6: The host checker and UnifiedSDK will be downloaded and installed as shown. Figure 6.1 Step 7: Upon completion of installation, the Host checker will be running as a background service to verify whether your device has passed the host checking. This process may take approximately 15 seconds or more. Please Note: If there are any failure on the host checker, the user will be presented a screen with the failed checks, reasons and remedy actions as shown in figure 7.1. Please ensure that you have enabled firewall, updated the antivirus to the latest virus defination on your device, otherwise, you will be presented with the screen as shown below: 3

Figure 7.1 The table below suggests the following actions to take when the host check fails.: Host Check Violation Troubleshooting Steps AntiVirus Checks Update the antivirus definition to the latest version. If issue persists, please contact your local IT administrator. Firewall Checks Enable firewall on workstation. If issue persists, please contact your local IT administrator. Mac OS Checks Ensure that the machine is a Mac. If issue persists, please contact your respective helpdesks or technical support officers Service Pack Checks Refer to the list of supported Windows Operating System Service Pack on the help button at the login page. If issue persists, please contact your local IT administrator. Table 7.2 B. Using VPN client (Junos Pulse) application You may now access the VPN using Junos Pulse client. Step 1: For Windows 8 and above, you can go to the Windows search and type Junos Pulse (figure 1.1). Click on the icon to launch the program. Figure 1.1 4

Step 2: The client program will prompt for the connection. Click connect to start the VPN session. Figure 2.1 Step 3: The Junos Pulse client will attempt to connect to the SSL VPN gateway. Select the realm that belongs to your profile. If you are a student, please select Student- Windows. Figure 3.1 Step 4: Enter your TP username (email ID) and password, and click connect. If your connection is successful, you will see a green tick symbol. 5

Figure 4.1 Please Note: User may terminate the remote connection by clicking on the Disconnect button anytime. Step 6: To check the status of your VPN connection, you may find the Junos Pulse client icon on the desktop taskbar as shown. A greyed out icon will indicate that your connection has been disconnected. Figure 6.1 Junos pulse client icon on the desktop taskbar Below are the icons that reflect the SSL VPN Connection Status: - Connected - Disconnected Step 7: To log out of your VPN connection, you may do so through the Junos Pulse client icon on the desktop taskbar. Click on the icon and select Open Pulse. 6

Figure 7.1 Please Note: Please ensure that you disconnect the VPN session instead of closing the browser. In the event that there is improper disconnection from the VPN client, you will need to ensure that the proxy setting in the Windows Internet Explorer is configured to ensure internet surfing when you are in TP network. Please refer to step 8. Step 8: Reconfiguring the Internet explorer proxy settings. You will need to execute your Windows Internet Explorer browser and select Internet options as shown.
