Page 3 www.stritaparish.org OCTOBER 25, 2015 Jesus is calling! So they called the blind man, saying to him, Take courage get up, Jesus is calling you. Could this happen to us? The blind man would say, yes because he was able to see again after calling out to Jesus. So too our physical blindness can be healed. Perhaps it is not physical blindness that we need cured. There is, also, spiritual and social blindness that can block our vision. Today, through the many medical procedures available to us our prayer request to Jesus may differ from the blind man in today s Gospel of Mark chapter 10 verses 46-52. Instead we may need to pray for enlightenment to take the next step forward to get medical help. However, there are personal and social blind spots that prevent us from seeing what is around us too. We need to call out like the blind man in today s Gospel and this may require assistance from another person. Sometimes because of busyness or just daily routine we may not see that others need attention or that we may need attention. If we care enough then we have to call each other out. Have you been, ok? Or how are things in your life? Little questions can go a long way in easing away pain or stress. Perhaps by a well-spoken thought or heartfelt question some light is shed on another person s life. As for social blindness; this may be because of personal prejudice or pre-conceived attitudes towards people in general for certain groups or religions or nationalities. When we find ourselves reacting negatively to a situation maybe it is the call of the blind man in your life. We can ask should I be more open or caring? Or at a minimum why am I getting so worked up over this or that? Instead, why not push the pause or reset button of our life and in that experience some light to shed for our social blindness. One of our religious use to say to me we all need some thinking time and often I think back to what Fr. Cajetan said. Yes, it is thinking time that we NEED AND then we are FREE TO TAKE THE NEXT STEP OR BE INSPIRED INTO THINKING A NEW THOUGHT OR BECOME AWARE OF OTHERS AROUND US. Pope Francis says it very well in his reflection #262: Without prolonged moments of adoration, of prayerful encounter with the word, of sincere conversation with the Lord, our work easily becomes meaningless, we lose energy as a result of weakness and difficulties, and our fervor dies out, (Evangeli Gaudium/The Joy of the Gospel). In our parish of St. Rita, specifically the doors of the church are open to pray daily and in a special way on Monday s Exposition. Come to the church and spend some time before the Lord in the Holy Eucharist. On Wednesday too before the evening 7:30 PM Mass there is adoration for an hour. May we all see the light by taking time to sit before the Lord and experience the love of the Lord bathing us in Light. Fr.
