Introduction This Yearbook accompanies the traditional end of year exhibition of students work which showcases the Bachelor of Science Architectural Technology programme at Nottingham Trent University. It is an opportunity to recognise the intellectual enquiry, imagination and creative skills of the graduating cohort of 2015. The study of design within what is now NTU started in 1843, and the current BSc course continues to look to the future, examining topics such as sustainable technologies and building information management, which have academic as well as professional relevance and contribute to the wider debate on designed environments. At NTU, design studio and practical experience are central to the course ethos, which is based on an understanding of Architectural Technology in a world increasingly defined by globalization, the transformative impact of technology on buildings and culture and the need for innovative and sustainable development. It is pleasing to note that this year our placement students and graduates will join leading firms in the UK and abroad. I would like to thank the academics, practitioners, technicians and administrators who have tutored and supported students in the studio, workshops and throughout the academic year. The School as a whole has been enriched by the creative endeavour and commitment shown by AT students in producing the work contained within this volume. Iain L Macdonald Head of Architecture
4 5 Course overview Where to start? Firstly I would like to thank the student cohort for making my first year as a Course Leader a memorable and enjoyable one and I hope each individual s time at NTU has been full of experiences - memories that will last a lifetime. The Architectural Technology course at Nottingham Trent University strives to: Inspire students, developing enthusiastic, motivated future professionals from the UK and overseas. Engender professionalism, providing the necessary technical skills and qualities to enable you to take up positions of responsibility in a multi-disciplinary construction industry. The course has Design, Technology, Management and Procurement at its core, enabling students to: Understand how buildings work, developing theoretical and practical knowledge of architectural science integrating technology with design. Manage the building design process, selecting, testing and defining design solutions in the context of contemporary practice, procedures and regulations Promote industry understanding, fostering critical awareness from the earliest stages of the mechanisms, professionals and stakeholders involved in the construction industry This year has been marked by several firsts, triple accreditation of the course, hands on field trips to Basford Hall and the Centre for Alternative Technology, plus several of our students winning awards at an international convention of Architectural Technologists. Henry Ford said, Coming together is a beginning; keeping together is progress and working together is success. As you look back over the last four years, there was certainly a beginning, thankfully also progress and yes, you have been successful, and this togetherness is reflected in your Degree Show and your fast approaching Graduation Ceremony. Congratulations on your success. We wish our Class of 2015 health, happiness and good fortune as they embark on rewarding lives and exciting careers. We will miss your enthusiasm and boundless energy. Bhavna Solanki Course Leader Sharaddha Badoni Serenity Wellness Centre, Eastside, Nottingham 0742936904 SHARADDHA_158@hotmail.com
