Qulliq Energy Corporation POSITION TITLE Senior Accountant - Excluded Job Description REPORTS TO Controller REPORTING TO THIS POSITION Intermediate Accountant LOCATION Baker Lake, Nunavut POSITIONAL OBJECTIVE Reporting to the Controller, the Senior Accountant will assist the Controller in the full cycle accounting, analysis and support. In this role, the incumbent will also assist in the timely and accurate preparation of the financial statements and all other financial and regulatory reporting activities. The Senior Accountant will be responsible for the supervision and work direction of the Intermediate Accountant. KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES: 1) Financial Management a. Review and manage general ledger accounts and account reconciliations on a timely manner b. Assist the Controller with internal and external reporting, c. Assist with the preparation of budgets and forecasts d. Assist with ad-hoc projects, financial analysis, and decision support information e. Coordinate month-end and year-end closing activities, including preparation of adjusting accounting entries for audit working papers f. Assist with internal and external audits g. 2) Audit and Regulatory Compliance a. Assist the Controller in the preparation of the required schedules and working papers for the annual audit b. Assist the Controller in the preparation of the annual audited statements and financial statement notes c. Research accounting literature to ensure that QEC keeps abreast of changes in applicable Canadian accounting standards d. Assist in the preparation and submission of the General Rate Applications, Fuel Stabilization Rate Applications and related regulatory documents 3) Financial Controls a. Maintain and monitor all account reconciliations b. Monitor and analyze all general ledger activities c. Review and post entries and batches to the general ledger d. Manage changes occurring from financial system enhancements e. Identify and develop process improvement initiatives, including enhancements to existing ERP system, in particular as it relates to the Finance Department f. Identify and recommend additional internal controls to strengthen the integrity of all financial system and reporting 4) Leadership a. Self-motivated and lead by example b. DIFFERENTIATING ACCOUNTABILITIES Some similarities to Intermediate Accountant and Controller positions. KNOWLEDGE AND EXPERIENCE a. Minimum 5 years working experience in a business environment in the accounting field b. Experience working in a northern Canada is an asset c. Strong interpersonal skills, effective communication, time management, strong problem solving and analytical skills; and able to work in a highly collaborative team environment d. Personal qualities of integrity, credibility, dedication to goal achievement, and commitment to QEC e. Experienced and comfortable in selecting and using technology EDUCATION REQUIRED The minimum education required is an undergraduate degree in business, preferably with a major in accounting. The completion, or near completion of an accounting designation (CA. CMA, or CGA) is required A combination of education and experience will be considered. OTHER INFORMATION (LANGUAGE REQUIREMENTS, TRAVEL, PHYSICAL CONDITIONS): Physical Demands A low level of physical demands required for this role. Environmental / Sensory Conditions The incumbent works in comfortable work environment with limited risk of accident or physical discomfort. The volume of work is periodically high and occasional extended overtime will be required. The incumbent must have the ability to work within a high stress and politically sensitive environment. Mental Demands Heavy work demands, especially during the annual audit, can become stressful. The incumbent must be able to adjust to changing priorities and resource levels while achieving deadlines. Financial information available to the incumbent is often sensitive and confidential which will require excellent judgment skills to maintain privacy and confidentiality goals. Must be able to handle complex problems and provide concrete solutions to situations such as making changes/improvements to inter-organizational financial practices and/or processes.
