Major This Modality offers a wide range of study possibilities, within the following fields of knowledge: Agricultural, Forestry and Veterinarian Sciences. Exact and Natural Sciences. Pharmaceutical and Nutritional Sciences. Social Sciences. Pedagogical Sciences. Sciences of Education. Computer and information Sciences, Arts and Letters. Economical Sciences. Technical Sciences. Geological and Metallurgical Sciences. Health Sciences. Language. The study of university majors includes a preparatory course of one year, in order for the not Spanish- speaking students to learn the language. Teaching Spanish is a responsibility of the Preparatory Faculties of the Ministry of Higher Education, which have created the necessary conditions to carry out the activities. In addition to learning Spanish, the preparatory course students take leveling courses in basic disciplines related to the majors they will study. Said courses prepare them in a series of general disciplines that allow them to face the university studies with a better preparation. By the end of the preparatory course, the students that are able to pass will receive a certificate upon completion of studies. Advantages of Studying in Cuba: Aside from taking lessons from an experienced teaching staff, when studying in Cuba the foreign undergraduate has the right to: Participate in the teaching and scientific work of the different educational centers that they attend, as well as, be part of the group of students that assist the teachers, and have working practices. Be part of sports teams and cultural groups. Have their national symbols and use them during their countries festivities with previous coordination with the maximum authorities of their study center, campus or place of residence. Requirements for admission. To have an equivalent instruction to that of the Cuban pre-university Education ( Senior High School studies or its equivalent level). To fulfill all the admission requirements depending on the type of degree to be obtained. To have the approval of the Cuban higher education institution where he/she intends to study.
During the process of admission for the applicants with pre-university degrees on sciences or arts, it would be analyzed the relation between the major they have applied to and what they are already graduated from. In the case of students that have degrees on other disciplines, they would have to apply only to those majors that have relation with that profile. Necessary documentation for admission and other procedures. Certificate of pre- university studies, senior high school, or the equivalent level, and marks certificate or transcript, for its validation, in order to continue studies. Full health report, making clear reference to the general physical and mental health of the applicant. In the case of women a non- pregnancy report should be submitted. Document that certifies the absence of criminal records. Birth certificate. Ten (10) photos of 1 x 1 size. In the case of the above mentioned documentation, students should submit the originals and the copies should be properly translated into Spanish. These documents will be legalized before the Ministry of Foreign Relations of the student s country, and afterwards, it should be presented to the Cuban Diplomatic Mission for further authentication, acceptance and legalization. After the process has been concluded the documents will be returned to the applicant. The applicant will be held responsible of the custody and transfer of such necessary documentation for the admission and its presentation before the proper higher education authorities. Visa arrangements for traveling to Cuba under the status of university student. The chosen students need to have valid passports for their entry and stay in Cuba. The entry to the country will be made with a student Visa (D-2) that will be delivered by the Cuban Consulate or the Embassy, authorized by the Cuban Immigration Office (Dirección de Inmigración y Extranjería)by request of the university where the student will go. Travel insurance. The applicants will arrange a Travel Insurance Policy, covering medical expenses, granted by insurance companies acknowledged in Cuba, or by Cuban insurance entities (ASISTUR). The applicants should inquire about the procedures of repatriation in case of sudden illness, accident or death.
When traveling to the country, the students should know all the necessary information about the level of coverage of the insurance policy. Those who need to attend the Preparatory Faculty of Spanish language should arrive between September 20 th and 30 th. Fees for the study of majors (tuition only) Preparatory Faculty: 2 000 C per year Fees for the University of Havana (), the Higher Polytechnic Institute José Antonio Echevarría () and the Agrarian University of Havana (UNAH). Major: 28 200 C 1 st year: 4 800 C 2 nd year: 4 800 C 3 rd year: 5 400 C 4 th year: 6 000 C 5 th year: 7 200 C Fees for the rest of the Universities. Full Major: 23 500 C 1 st year: 4 000 C 2 nd year: 4 000 C 3 rd year: 4 500 C 4 th year: 5 000 C 5 th year: 6 000 C The accommodation and food expenses are not included in the pre- graduate tuition cost. The options for accommodations are on: Campus (very modest conditions). Rental houses (officially authorized by the Cuban State). Other state facilities existing in the territories.
