1 IZMIR UNIVERSITY OF ECONOMICS INTERNATIONAL STUDENTS SCHOLARSHIP FOR UNDERGRADUATE PROGRAMS I. Scholarship Information The scope of the scholarship The international students who are accepted to undergraduate programs in full time student status with scholarship: Fee: Do not pay the annual tuition fee that is determined each year by the Board of Trustees as long as their scholarship continues. Dormitory: Are provided with the opportunity to stay at the dormitory of the university. In case the dormitory capacity is not enough, the students who reside outside the university dormitory are paid extra 300 TL monthly for 9 months. Private Health Insurance: The private health insurance of the students are made and covered by IUE. Monthly Stipend: They are paid stipend for 9 months annually to contribute to their food, book, etc. expenditures. It is 400 TL per month for academic year. (Nearly 250 USD). The scholarship given by IUE does not cover other expenditures of the students transportation, transfer, bureaucratic procedure, and expenditures.etc Scholarship Period The scholarship of the students accepted in full time student status includes maximum 1 academic year in English Preparatory Program and maximum 4 years in undergraduate programs. The students whose scholarship is terminated can continue their education by paying the tuition fee. Programs The scholarships will be given to the students of the countries determined by the Board of Trustees in the scope of the quota determined for the international students for academic year. The application of the ones that wish to study by paying the tuition fee will be evaluated in the same quota. The scholarships are valid for Academic Year. Those who have been awarded tuition scholarships will lose their scholarships under the following circumstances if they; a) Fail to complete the English Preparatory School successfully at the end of the 1 st year and fall below 2.00 GPA s in the education program they are in, b) Transfer to a different department in the university, c) Receive disciplinary reprimands, except Warning or Condemnation reprimands, d) Exceed the required period of education (1 academic year for English Preparatory Class and 4 academic years for undergraduate courses) 2

3 The students whose scholarships are terminated cannot take scholarship again even if they fulfill the necessary conditions. The students whose scholarship is terminated can continue their education by paying the tuition fee Other Regulations The scholarships awarded by the Izmir University of Economics do not bind the students with any financial or service obligations. II. APPLICATION and EVALUATION PROCEDURE For Full Time Students it is necessary to: Have a high school or equivalent school diploma. Take necessary points from one of the valid exams/certificates stated in attachment 1. Language Proficiency The medium of instruction at İzmir University of Economics is English for all programs. All the students who will register for the undergraduate programs are required to prove their English Proficiency in order to follow the courses. In order to prove their English Proficiency, the students can either take the English Proficiency Exams conducted by School of Foreign Languages of İzmir University of Economics or submit the scores of the internationally valid exams such as TOEFL or IELTS. Turkish nationals, (excluding the ones who completed the last three years of their high school education in a foreign country excluding Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus), Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus nationals,(excluding the ones who completed their secondary education there having a GCEAL certificate, Dual citizens who has a Turkish citizenship,(excluding the ones who completed the last three years of their high school education in a foreign country excluding Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus), Dual citizens who has a Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus citizenship (excluding the ones who completed their secondary education there having a GCEAL certificate), Turkish nationals who completed their high school education in Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus, Have been dismissed from a higher education program in Turkey for disciplinary actions, As of 2011, those who have ceased to be a citizen of Turkey and who have completed their high school in Turkey or in the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus Application Deadline: August 3,

4 The Required Documents for Application Application Form Exam result documents (For the examinations indicated below) Photocopy of the high school diploma or a document showing that the candidate is a senior high school student. (Translation of the document if it is in another language other than Turkish or English) An official document showing all the courses that the candidate has taken in high school and their grades (It must be submitted in a sealed envelope approved by the high school of the candidate.) Teacher Reference Form Photocopy of the foreign language proficiency certificate, if any. Evaluation of Applications The applications will be evaluated in accordance with the quotas reserved for the countries by the Board of Trustees. Fulfilling the necessary conditions does not guarantee taking scholarship. The Board of Trustees will give the final decision for determining the scholarship students after the evaluation of applications by the related commission. Announcing the Results Evaluation results will be published on University s web page III.FINAL REGISTRATION PROCEDURE Original copy of the exam result (Exam results submitted in application. (SAT I, GCE, ACT, etc.) Original High School Diploma and a notarized Turkish translation Equivalence certificate of the diploma (From Turkish Ministry of Education-Board of Education and Discipline or Turkish Consulates abroad) Photocopy of the passport page with the photograph and personal identifying information and the student visa. (The original of the passport will be required in final registration.) Photocopy of the first seven pages of residence permit (Taken from City Security Head Office) 8 passport size (4.5 x 6 cm) photos (taken in the last 6 months, head and neck open, clearly identifying the person) Bank receipt showing that the semester tuition fee and other costs to cover the expenditures are paid. Original score of language proficiency exam if submitted the copy during the application. * Students from outside Turkey take Student Visa from Turkish Consulates abroad. Student Visa is not required for the students who became Turkish citizen by birth and later became a citizen of a foreign country by taking a permission to cease to be a citizen of Turkey with the decision of the cabinet. * All official document copies must be approved by the authorized official institutions of the candidates countries or the Turkish Republic s representative offices abroad. 4
