Can I take the ELCC program by distance? EARLY LEARNING AND CHILD CARE DISTANCE PROGRAM YEAR 1 & 2 QUESTIONS AND ANSWERS Yes! All of the courses are available through distance online learning. Depending on your geographic location, practicum may be completed through distance as long as you live in Alberta. What are the admission requirements? If you wish to attend full time on campus or by Distance/eCampus you must have an Alberta High School Education Diploma or equivalent with 50% in English 30 or 30-1 or 60% in English 33 or 30-2 or the equivalent. A proficiency test in English will be required for any student whose first language is not English. If you are 18 years of age or older and do not have these pre-requisites, contact Admissions at 780-539-2050. How do I apply and register for the Distance/eCcampus program? All available ecampus distance courses are listed on the ecampus website at www.ecampusalberta.ca. To register for an ecampus distance course, students must first complete and submit the Application for Admission and application fee. Once the application and fee is processed and admission requirements met, students then receive an admission letter/email advising the student to register and pay the course fees by contacting the ecampus Distance Assistant at ELCCOnline@gprc.ab.ca or 780-539-2983. Students can pay for course fees with a credit card over the phone, or can send a cheque or money order into the college. Students sending payment by cheque or money order will want to contact the ecampus Distance Assistant to ensure payment has been received, this is the student s responsibility. How much does it cost to take a course? 2 Credit 3 Credit $297.14 Tuition/E-Campus/Admin Fees $438.71 Tuition/E-Campus/Admin Fees

How many distance/ecampus courses can I take at one time? You can take as many courses as you wish, however we do caution students to be careful as taking too many courses could result in not being able to complete all the course work by the end of the date. It is highly recommended that students take one course at a time. Will I be able to do practicum in my workplace? Students may complete a minimum of two (2) practica in their workplace. However, if they continue through to the second year, they are required to do part of Practicum 3 in an Early Childhood setting outside of their workplace. How do I know when I am ready for practicum? The Distance Student Handbook outlines a program of study which includes the prerequisites that must be completed before you take each practicum. A Practicum Request Form must be completed and submitted to the Distance Coordinator at least 4-months prior to registering in the practicum component of the program. Practicum acceptance is not guaranteed. What are the advantages of taking the ELCC program by Distance/eCampus? Distance learning offers you the autonomy to select your own study hours and place of study. For those students who previously had to travel many hours over winter roads to participate in evening or weekend courses, distance learning may be a welcome alternative. Taking ELCC courses by distance is a viable alternative for students who are working full time with children in an early childhood setting. What type of academic support will I receive while taking a Distance/eCampus course? Our distance learning program offers you the services of a fully qualified instructor from the Department of Human Services. Your instructor is willing to answer your questions, to discuss education issues, to offer advice and listen to your concerns. Our distance learning program can link you with any College services you may require; e.g. Financial Services, Registrar s Office, Counselling, etc. What other important information do I need to know to be successful in the distance program? You must have access to young children in a group setting to complete the Early Learning and Child Care program by distance.

Where can I find out more information about the Early Learning and Child Care Distance/eCampus Program? You can visit the Grande Prairie Regional College website at www.gprc.ab.ca or call the Distance Assistant at (780) 539-2983. The Distance Student Handbook is available on the following website: https://www.gprc.ab.ca/d/elccdisthb
