Over the years, the Company has added plants and facilities far and wide for UNSURPASSED ENGINEERING, DESIGN AND MANUFACTURING capabilities. But our headquarters are still across the street from where it all began a century ago, and the spirit of the neighborhood continues to exert a strong influence. Throughout HARLEY-DAVIDSON S history, the Company has remained vitally connected to neighbors and neighborhoods in all the communities where it has facilities, eager to reach out with a big heart and a helping hand. Together, HARLEY-DAVIDSON and its employees strive to OPEN NEW ROADS OF POSSIBILITY for others... starting in our own back yards.
A FOCUS ON NEIGHBORS AND FRIENDS arley-davidson supports its neighbors and the H communities in which it does business in three primary ways: (1) funding from Harley-Davidson and the Harley-Davidson Foundation; (2) initiatives in which employees donate time and contribute financially to community causes; and (3) as a national sponsor of the Muscular Dystrophy Association. The Harley-Davidson Foundation was established in 1993 in a typical Harley-Davidson way: with a strong dose of employee involvement. Today, some 50 employees review funding requests. Along with the Foundation s Board of Directors, these employees guide company giving. As a result, the Foundation provides grants that: SUPPORT THE COMMUNITIES where Harley-Davidson has facilities. TARGET AREAS OF GREATEST NEED among underserved populations. ENHANCE THE QUALITY OF LIFE for those benefiting from Foundation support. To allow the Company to have the greatest impact with its donations, the Foundation focuses the lion s share of its giving on education and community revitalization. The Foundation also supports arts and culture, the environment and health initiatives. Since 1993, the Harley-Davidson Foundation has provided $25 million in grants and contributions to more than 1,000 nonprofit organizations. The Foundation supports employees who lend a helping hand too. When employees volunteer their time in service to nonprofit organizations, the Foundation adds to the impact with an hourly-rate contribution to the organizations for each volunteer hour. COMMITTED TO EDUCATION ducation is the entry ramp on the road to possibility. E It is the most basic of fundamentals for better lives, and it s the area that receives the largest share of Harley-Davidson s resources. The Foundation funds education in a variety of ways. Much of our support goes to programs that reinforce core curriculum and lay solid foundations for learning. The Company also funds initiatives to mentor young people and help them set education and career goals. And when it comes to personal involvement, employees tutor students to help improve their reading, writing and math skills.

Harley-Davidson employee contributions to K4 12 schools, colleges and universities matched at 50 cents on the dollar. MAKING A DIFFERENCE WITH COMMUNITY REVITALIZATION t Harley-Davidson, we ve long understood the dignity A and self-esteem that come with good homes and strong neighborhoods. That s why community revitalization ranks high on the Foundation s list for support. We take inspiration from the Company s early days, when a group of employees got together and built a home for a co-worker who lived in a tarpaper shack. Company co-founder William A. Davidson supplied the materials. Today, Harley-Davidson participates in a public-private effort to improve the neighborhood surrounding its company headquarters. As part of the effort, many of our employees and retirees volunteer to help Habitat for Humanity construct new homes in the area.

These efforts nurture the quality of life in our central city neighborhood in Milwaukee, making it a better place for families to live and for Harley-Davidson employees to work. Harley-Davidson supports the arts and culture in ways that foster awareness of diversity and enhance an understanding of the world around us. This support includes the Knox Concert Series in Talladega, Ala.; Rainbow s End in Kansas City; Milwaukee s ethnic festivals; Dream Wrights Youth & Family Theater in York; the Florentine Opera Company student ticket program and First Stage multicultural school assembly tour program in Milwaukee; and Milwaukee s United Performing Arts Fund. THE ENVIRONMENT arley-davidson s concern for the environment is evident H in all the ways you would expect, such as strong recycling, waste reduction and energy conservation initiatives. But it also is evident in other community-focused ways. In recent years, the Harley-Davidson Foundation has funded initiatives including the Susquehanna Watershed Education Program, the Urban Ecology Center Neighborhood Environmental Education Project and Neighborhood House of Milwaukee. These initiatives teach new generations about the impact of the environment on our lives.
SUPPORTING OUR NATION S VETERANS arley-davidson has a long and proud kinship with the H people who serve in our Armed Forces, going all the way back to 1916, when our motorcycles saw their first military action. Today, as in the past, many of our customers and employees are veterans who served our country with distinction. We are proud to honor the service and sacrifices of these men and women. WORLD WAR II VETERANS MEMORIAL. Harley-Davidson s quarter-million-dollar donation helped fund construction of this new memorial in Washington, D.C. We have also contributed to the American Battle Monuments Commission. VIETNAM VETERANS MEMORIAL FUND. Harley-Davidson helps fund the Vietnam Veterans Memorial Traveling Wall and Wall That Heals. VETERANS DAY. Harley-Davidson salutes the nation s veterans each year on Veterans Day, Nov. 11, with special events at its Kansas City, Milwaukee and York facilities. More than just a good excuse to hold chrome-plated, leather-clad rides, rallies and reunions, MDA fund-raisers help make a big difference in the lives of people with neuromuscular disease. The Muscular Dystrophy Association combats neuromuscular diseases through research, comprehensive medical and community services, and far-reaching professional and public health education.
