Racks :: tough. secure. cool. Installation Guide 2.1 Installation Please read these instructions carefully and completely before beginning installation. For assistance, contact Technical Support at 1.509.926.6000, www.telect.com, or support@telect.com. These instructions presume you have verified that the Telect equipment being installed is compatible with the rest of the system, including power, ground, circuit protection, signal characteristics, equipment from other vendors, and local codes or ordinances. 2.1 Inspecting the shipment Telect, Inc., is not liable for shipping damage. Telect is not responsible for any equipment damage or poor operating performance when you do not follow these guidelines or when you use non-certified installers. Keep the container until you have checked equipment operation. If you experience any kind of problem, call Telect s Customer Service Department at 1-509-926-6000. Use the original, undamaged container if you are instructed to return the enclosure to Telect. If a shipping container is damaged, keep it for the carrier s inspection. Notify the carrier and call Telect s Customer Service Department at 1-509-926-6000. Other than this installation guide, the cabinet ships with no other components. Optional concrete and raised floor anchoring kits discussed in this guide are shown on page 18. Design the perfect rack 21
Racks :: tough. secure. cool. 2.1.1 Important Installation Guidelines Elevated Operating Ambient Temperature - If installed in a closed or multi-unit rack assembly, the operating ambient temperature of the rack environment may be greater than room ambient. Therefore, consideration should be given to installing the equipment in an environment compatible with the maximum ambient temperature (Tma) specified by the manufacturer. Reduced Air Flow - Installation of the equipment in a rack should be such that the amount of air flow required for safe operation of the equipment is not compromised. Mechanical Loading - Mounting of the equipment in the rack should be such that a hazardous condition is not achieved due to uneven mechanical loading. Circuit Overloading - Consideration should be given to the connection of the equipment to the supply circuit and the effect that overloading of the circuits might have on overcurrent protection and supply wiring. Appropriate consideration of equipment nameplate ratings should be used when addressing this concern. Reliable Earthing - Reliable earthing of rack-mounted equipment should be maintained. Particular attention should be given to supply connections other than direct connections to the branch circuit (e.g. use of power strips).! ALERT ALERT! Only qualified technicians may install and maintain this product. Verify all connections meet requirements specified in local electric codes or operating company guidelines. Only use components and crimping tools approved by agencies or certifying bodies recognized in your country or region, such as Underwriter s Laboratories (UL), TUV, etc. 2.1.2 Installation Considerations 2.1.3 Location & Space The indoor cabinet requires 28" (71 cm) door clearance at the front and rear. Leave as much side clearance for panel removal and worker access as required by your application or local regulations. If you don t require side access, you can install the cabinets with zero side clearance, and you can leave off any adjacent panels for side-by-side cabinets needing cross-access. Choose a location in compliance with your local operating company requirements. 2.1.4 Tools & Equipment You will need the following tools to install the rack: 18-mm (or 23/32-in.) masonry bit 40 N m torque wrench with a 19-mm box or open end. (A 19-mm socket at least 54-mm deep will also work.) broadblade screwdriver (~8-mm or 5 /16-in. blade width) horizontal or plumb level (optional) isolation pad (if required at base of cabinet) hammer support strut mounting hardware 22
Racks :: tough. secure. cool. 2.2 Mounting! ALERT Figure 8 - Mounting Hardware ALERT! The cabinet weighs approximately 445 lbs. (202 kg) for the 19" Data Center Rack, and 475 lbs. (216 kg) for the 23", without additional equipment or shipping materials. Use the appropriate lifting equipment. 2.2.1 Concrete Floor (51005-ANCS Anchor Kit) Each Telect Anchoring Kit (sold separately) contains an isolation pad, concrete anchors, threaded studs, and fastening hardware to anchor and secure the base of one cabinet to a concrete floor. Using the isolation pad as a template, mark the hole patterns, then move the pad aside. Drill a 5/8" (18 mm) diameter hole, 4" (100 mm) deep, at each of the four anchor locations. Use a HEPA filter shop vacuum while drilling to prevent concrete dust contamination of adjacent equipment. 23
Racks :: tough. secure. cool.! ALERT ALERT! If you drill past a reinforcing bar, you MUST use an isolation pad to isolate the cabinet from the rebar ground. Telect recommends the use of isolation pads on all cabinet and rack installations to protect against inadvertent rebar grounds. 1. Clean out the holes using a HEPA filter shop vacuum and carefully clean away all debris. Loosen the nut several turns, then remove the rod, torque nut, and washer (the rod assembly can be backed out by using the screwdriver slot; the sleeves and anchor cone remain in the hole). 6. Place the isolation pad on the mounting surface. 7. Position the cabinet over the holes; do not let debris fall into the holes. 8. Install the insulating washers that accompany the isolation pad. 9. Place the rods through the holes in the cabinet base and thread them into the anchor bodies until they are fully engaged in the threads of the bottom cones. 10. Add the steel washer and the torque nut assembly and retorque to 30 ft-lbs. Make sure the washer and torque nut are securing the diagonal corner strut and not the end cap. Racks :: tough. secure. cool. 2.2.2 Raised Computer Floor (DR-ANCRF Anchor Kit) Each Telect Anchoring Kit (sold separately) contains an isolation pad, concrete anchors, threaded rods, and fastening hardware to anchor and secure the base of one cabinet to a raised floor and the concrete below it. See Isolation Pad for the Data Center Rack" on page 10 for a view of the isolation pad. 1. Locate the isolation pad over one raised floor panel. 2. Using the isolation pad as a template, mark the hole pattern, then move the pad aside. 3. Drill a 5/8" (18 mm) diameter hole at each of the four anchor locations. 4. Remove the floor panel, transfer the panel holes to the concrete, and drill a 5/8" (18 mm) diameter hole, 4" (100 mm) deep at each of the four marks. Use a HEPA filter shop vacuum while drilling to prevent concrete dust contamination of adjacent equipment.! ALERT ALERT! If you drill past a reinforcing bar, you MUST use an isolation pad between the floor plate and 12 mm x 1.75 x 1 m All Thread Rod (4) cabinet to isolate the cabinet from the rebar ground. (See (12) Securing the Anchor" on page 11.) The washer should touch the top of the metal sleeve. Delrin Shoulder Washer (4) 7. Insert the anchor into the hole. Tap the anchor rod down with a hammer until the washer touches the concrete. 8. Torque the anchor to approximately 30 ft-lbs. 9. Thread a nut, lock washer, flat washer, and square plate onto each rod so the square plate sits at the level required to fully support the floor panel at the proper height. 2 in. x 2 in. x ¼ in. Square Washer (4) 10. Cut any wire access holes required in the floor plate, then place it over the anchor rods. 11. Install the isolation pad. 12. Locate the cabinet over the anchor rods. 13. Install the insulating washers that accompany the isolation pad. 14. Add the Delrin shoulder washer, flat washer, pressure washer, and nut and torque to 30 ft-lbs. Make sure the washer and torque nut are securing the diagonal corner strut and not the end cap. M12/25, Heavy Duty Expansion Anchor (4) 26
