File Storage Area: All Raw Footage is stored here Raw Footage: Original, unedited footage imported into video editing software Timeline: Shows edited clips in chronological order All editing commands are created and displayed here Timeline Display: ONLY FOR FINAL CUT Displays video in the timeline Viewer Window: Shows video footage that can be played Can show video from either File Storage Area or the Timeline Video shown depends on what was last highlighted or clicked on

File Storage Area

Final Cut Pro File Storage Area File Storage Area: All raw footage stored here Sequences: different timelines with edited footage Bins: folders for organize both raw footage and sequences Duration: tells you the length of the raw footage clip In and Out times: Typically shown as not set, you can define these to shorten a clip or create several different in and out points

imovie File Storage Area All raw footage stored here Duration File Storage Area: ***Can only work on one timeline at a time, so imovie does not have sequences ***imovie does not have bins to organize raw footage, all raw footage is stored in the File Display Area

All footage edited here Displayed in chronological order Video and audio can be layered Video Layers: Shows any inserted video (from the raw footage clips, photos, text, etc) Final Cut Pro TIMELINE Scrubber: Use to scrub through timeline and display corresponding video in the timeline display window Audio Layers: Shows any inserted audio (either from the raw footage clip or a separate audio file)

Final Cut Pro TIMELINE Sequence Tabs: Click on different tabs to display different timelines Hide Video Layer: Makes layer invisible Lock Layer: if locked layer won't move Mute Audio Layer Scroll and Zoom: Used to scroll through timeline and zoom in and out on clips

Final Cut Pro TIMELINE Link Clip: Links audio and video from same clip together Snapping: Snaps two clips together so that they run consecutively

Audio/Video Layer: Audio and video displayed in the same layer imovie TIMELINE Timeline Mode: good for editing Clips in Chronological Order: Shows inserted clips in order Clip Mode: good for inserting clips
