Godley High School Class of 09 Course Selection Guide 0-06 Plan for the future because that s where you are going to spend the rest of your life. ~Mark Twain~

TO THE STUDENTS Students: This Course Catalog is provided to help you select the courses you will take in the 0-06 school year. Students entering Grade 9 during the 0-0 school year and thereafter are required to earn an endorsement as part of the Foundation Graduation Diploma program. An endorsement allows a student to focus his/her studies to include a sequence of courses/credits with selected advanced level courses aligned to his/her career and college interests. Although many of your courses will be determined by the graduation requirements, you will still have many other choices to make during your years of school. The courses you select should be guided largely by your plans for the future. Will you continue your education in college or in a technical college? Do you want to join the military? Do you want to learn a career skill in order to enter the full-time work force immediately after school? Are you thinking of entering a profession that requires many years of specialized education? The answers to these questions are extremely important for making decisions about your course selections for high school. Those answers should also be guided by your interests and abilities. You should also look ahead at the classes that are necessary to meet graduation requirements. Many of those classes have prerequisite courses that you must take in your freshman, sophomore or junior year. If you get to your senior year without taking the prerequisites, you will not be able to take the higher level courses and possibly not have the credits you will need to graduate. So plan ahead! TO PARENTS/GUARDIANS Parents: You have an important role in helping your student make decisions regarding high school course selections. You are urged to familiarize yourself with this Course Catalog so that you can help make important decisions. If you have any questions, please contact teachers, counselors or administrators at the school who will be available to discuss specific concerns with you. Please note the Texas Education Agency (TEA) may provide updates to rules and regulations regarding course requirements of state-approved As future rule changes may impact the content in this catalog, course requirements and/or recommendations are subject to change. Please seek guidance from your counselor should you have any questions regarding the most current course requirements. The information presented in this guide is specific to your graduation year and you should refer to it over the next four years. It is important to keep this material for future reference. Course descriptions and their required prerequisites can be found on the Godley High School Counseling page under Class of 09.

Honors Courses These classes are not deemed as Pre-AP or AP courses because the courses are not tested by the College Board. However, the curriculum is rigorous and requires a lot of student initiative, motivation, and responsibility due to the challenging environment and an increase in coursework to be completed outside the classroom. These courses will receive weighted credit. Students who choose to enroll in one or more of these courses must complete a STUDENT AGREEMENT, including a parent/guardian signature. Advanced Placement (AP) Courses GHS offers open enrollment in all AP courses to students in their junior and senior year. Currently, all AP courses are only available through TxVSN. These courses are extremely rigorous as they are college-level courses which follow a college curriculum approved by the College Board. Students taking these courses are encouraged to take the AP exams offered in the spring. Students scoring a,, or on an AP exam may be awarded college credit. Students should research colleges/universities regarding their specific policy for awarding credit for AP scores. When making the decision to take AP courses, consider the demands of academic and extracurricular involvement. AP courses are exceptionally demanding on students time outside of the regular school day. Enrolling in one AP course is the equivalent of signing up for - college hours. These courses will receive weighted credit. Students who choose to enroll in an AP course must complete a STUDENT AGREEMENT, including a parent/guardian signature. Texas Virtual School Network (TxVSN) The Texas Virtual School Network (TxVSN) is a cooperative network of school districts, schools, and education service centers that provide online distance learning courses to each other. Godley High School students have the opportunity to enroll in select courses provided through TxVSN. Students must be highly selfdisciplined to enroll in an online course. Students who choose to enroll in TxVSN course must complete a STUDENT AGREEMENT, including a parent/guardian signature. There is no cost to the students for these approved high school Dual Credit Courses Dual Credit classes are available to academically talented students as a provision awarding them credit toward high school graduation for completing selected college Godley High School has partnered with Hill College and The University of Texas of the Permian Basin to offer select courses to our students, beginning with College Algebra the second semester of their sophomore year. Special registration for dual credit classes is required at both the high school and the college/university. Students must meet all admission requirements of the higher education institution. GHS counselors will provide details about enrollment. In order to receive credit toward high school graduation for course work completed in any of the college courses, a grade of seventy or higher must be achieved. Students who choose to enroll in dual credit course(s) must complete a STUDENT AGREEMENT, including a parent/guardian signature.
