Integrated Fleet Management System FORCE 21 Integrated Fleet Management System
BACKGROUND of TRIAL MOM is studying how employers can use Fleet Management Systems (FMS) as a potential technology-aided solution to improve safety performance, improve productivity and reduce the costs of operations. The aim of the trial is to assess if FMS is a feasible and cost-effective solution for local fleet operators to better manage their drivers safety. Companies adopting the system will benefit from improving the safety of their fleet to the increase in productivity by understanding the driver s driving related behaviours. With the driver s daily on the road information collected, companies can offer a consultancy and incentives program to encourage better overall driving behaviour which results in road safety awareness.
Key Trial Features What is the difference between an ifmsand a GPS Tracking System? Connecting World Trade Intelligent Driver Safety Analysis System (idsas) is an enhanced Fleet Management System with the ability to convert on-board vehicles electronic data into point system referred to as SCORE. idsas also integrates Video-on-the-Road to gives the operator Live and Recorded information which is tagged to events happening on the road. Purpose of idsas? The system collects information on the road like Speeding, Sudden Lane change, Sudden Brake, Sudden Speeding, Idling, etc. Which in turn translates into a simple to read point system to measure driving behaviour. Giving the fleet manager an immediate alert to review the driver performance. 3

System Overview SCORE System The SCORE Parameters provide Fleet Manager (FM) a tool to assess how driver behaves ontheroad. Every vehicle is given a SCORE weight of 100%, any violation of driving patterns will reduce the weight of the violation subject to the SCORE Parameter Rules. Example Cement Truck Operation Vehicle always on the road without engine stopping. Travelling to-from construction sites with un-even terrain Weight Consideration Higher weight age will be given to Speeding. Lower weight age will be given to sudden brake/left/right due to uneven road condition Zero to Idle due to Cement Drum needs engine to be constantly ON 6

Findings & Analysis of the Trials 8
Involved different environments & vehicles profile Type of Vehicles: Heavy Vehicles / Cars / Vans & Motorbike Area of Operations: Construction Worksites / Residence & Office Areas Engine Status: Always ON / 75% Environmental Factors: Vehicle travelling into Bumpy & Sandy Road or Normal Road ( Sudden Left/Right ) Entering Construction Sites with Multiple uneven Slopes ( Harsh Brake/Acceleration ) Manoeuvring difficulty in Construction sites ( Sudden LR + Harsh Brake/Accelerate ) Engine continuously ON or on the road most of the time ( Idling ) Bench Mark for Speeding was set to 60km/h or 95Km/h ( Operation Speed around 55 or 90 km/h ) Behaviour SCORE setting was set to below based on discussions with company and their mode of operation : Speed Limit = 60km/h or 90Km/h Weight age Speeding = 80% Weight age Sudden Acceleration = 5% Weight age Sudden Braking = 5% Weight age Sudden Left Turn = 5% Weight age Sudden Right Turn = 5% Trial Environment
Driver Monthly Score Comparison Findings & Analysis Lower SCORE November 2013 Upper SCORE Driver #3 Driver #4 Comparing between month of November & December Few same driver falls within the lower & upper score group Driver #21 Driver #23 December 2013
Analysis of Findings Lower SCORE Group Driver #4 Age: 37 Experience: 3 yrs Country: Driver #3 Age : 43 Experience : 7 yrs Country : Upper SCORE Group Driver #21 Age: 59 Experience: 6 yrs Country: Driver #23 Age : 39 Experience: 6 yrs Country: Violation Consistency Violation Consistency Both drivers demonstrated consistency in violation of the following behavior : Sudden Acceleration Sudden Braking Speeding Etc Conclusion can be made that the driver does not drive with confident on road but reacting base on sudden action. Driver needs training There is no clear representation of consistency in the types of violation for the drivers. The drivers may demonstrate their experience in adapting to different road conditions Conclusion can be made that the driver react confidently to the different road conditions. Good Driver 11
Conclusions 12
Conclusions Conclusions from Vehicles Data Collected using ifms Provide Fleet Managers(FM) a very informative& in-depth understanding of each individual driver s habit through the daily events generated from the violation. Improved and increased operation productivity by automating resource management through the ifms thereby allowing better planning. Event Markers provide FM a clear insight to historical violations which happen days, weeks or even months before. Event Video provides the FM with useful information / evidence to analyse the impact of environmental factors on the driving behaviours or incidents. Improved Safety as it allows Fleet Managers to work on individual counseling or re-training programmes as the system provides common types of violation of each individual drivers. Provide useful reports so as the Management can have an overview of their drivers driving performances through the SCORE card system. Protect investment / ROI as the system providing flexibility through the user customizable parameters and expandability to cater for additional requirements. 13
In general the ifms system does help in the daily operation needs and fulfill most of the key requirements as follows: Location Tracking GPS Tracking Geo-fencing Asset tracking management Fleet management Vehicle timing predictor Vehicle scheduling Fuel efficiency analyzer Driver Management Duty scheduling Duty monitoring Mileage-payroll Courier Services Consignment scheduling Consignment monitoring Payroll Chartered Vehicles Operators management Operator monitoring Taxi Dispatch (complement) Intelligent dispatch via location Add value to system in reducing no pickup incidence Integrates with CRM to reduce waiting time One of the important features is that the system provides the Behaviour Analysis Report that is useful to the management. 14
