IAUTA International Conference on International Cooperation & U3A Toulouse, France, 2 nd 4 th June 2014 University Toulouse Capitole Background Note Cultural and heritage are unique and fragile. Therefore, it is fundamental that University of Third Age stakeholders develop these heritage while protecting and preserving them for the long-term. The extraordinary growth in worldwide senior population has fundamental implications: while U3A can be a vehicle for both education and culture. Awareness of education and cultural exchange and cooperation is growing within the University of Third Age world development. The personal compulsion to visit each other is highly influenced by their specific knowledge or previous experience of similar places, as much as by the messages they have absorbed from friends and relatives, from the media, or through travel promotions. U3A Communication adds value by building an understanding and emotional attachment. Visiting U3A can be an intrinsic part of a trip and a major motivator for selecting a destination. Friends from other U3A will be often the best of a country and can constitute a gateway to a large knowledge of a country. U3A experiences that were once limited to a relatively small number of people are now within reach of millions. One of the pillars of U3A international cooperation has been mankind's inherent desire to see and learn about the cultural identity of different parts of the world. The IAUTA International Conference on International Cooperation and U3A co-organized by the Toulouse University U3A and IAUTA, will bring together representatives of IAUTA Member of U3A from Americas, Asia and Pacific, Africa and Indian Ocean, Europe and Middle East. This event will be a forum for public authorities, experts and practitioners to discuss and review opportunities and challenges of international exchange between seniors. The aim of the conference is to showcase the education and cultural richness of U3A all over the world by presenting case studies and country experiences on successful policies, and guidelines. 5
