Small Business Internet Marketing Just What You Want to Know (So, What Do You Want to Know?) During this presentation we re going to talk about the 3 Biggest Secrets and 3 Biggest Mistakes in marketing your business online. There is a Formula for Success... Build a Content Strategy around the services you offer. Secret #1: Build Content. And keep building it. Mistake #1: Launching a website and never touching it again.

Keeping the content on your website updated regularly greatly increases your perceived importance with search engines. Solution: Blog / News Section A Blog / News Section is the best way for small businesses to improve visibility on their websites. Provides: Continuously updated content Expands your web of searchable text Puts you in a position as an expert in your field Provides shareable content The more links to your content the greater the perceived importance on Google and other search engines. You want to incentivize people to share your content. Very Important: Blog must be a part of your domain! Secret #2: Build a Community of People who Care Mistake #2: Broadcasting to Nobody Solution: CARE

Share your content with the people who matter most. Friends, Relatives, Co-Workers, Clients, etc. How do you currently share your content? Blog, Newsletter, Social Media? Social Media Social Media plays a key role in sharing your content across the web! When we say Social Media, what do you think of? The truth is there are hundreds of Social Networks, so lets talk about some of the most important ones? Facebook: Connect Who here has a Facebook Business Page? Facebook Account Vs. Business Page So people like you not become friends with you. Has over 1 billion active users. Maybe you don t want a billion users, but it signifies an opportunity to connect.

What you really want is an audience of a few hundred people in your target market who actively engage with your about your business. What kinds of thing should I post? Blog Posts, Events, Interesting Resources, Questions, Pictures. Any shareable content. Benefits of engagement include: Network effect - Shareable content - Keeps you in peoples minds. Twitter: Interact Twitter is more than just sharing 140 characters. Who here has a twitter account? Who here actively tweets? What do you tweet about? Twitter is a great place to interact with new people. It is great for sharing events, offering advice, and searching for questions to answer. search.twitter.com Where do you start? Sign up for a twitter account and start following some interesting people.

Linkedin: Network LinkedIn is a great place to be businessy. It s acceptable to network, reach out to new contacts, join groups with similar interests, answer professional questions, get reviews from colleagues and clients. Google +: Reviews and Location Google+ has swallowed Google Places and now controls the location data for your business. It is very important for you to claim your business listing (That is to say, go to Google and tell them that you are the business owner). That way you can make changes to your business address, phone number, listed hours, and specials you might want to offer. Other Online Listings for Reviews and Location and click thru to website. Now that we ve talked about getting eyeballs on you, Let s talk about converting eyeballs into contacts. Secret #3: Make it Easy for People to Contact You Mistake #3: Making people search for your contact info for more than three seconds.

Put your phone number at the top and the bottom of your website. Have a contact link in the navigation bar. Put it in the sidebar. Put contact links inside of your content - where it makes sense. Have an online scheduling tool if possible. Missed calls can be missed clients. The truth is, someone who needs you and isn t a referral is probably searching for you on a mobile device. Mobile websites are becoming increasingly important. 26% of all Website Traffic in the USA is from mobile devices and it is growing. It has risen 12% in the last year and is up 6% since May. Smart phones and tablets are the fastest growing segment of personal computing. Mobile friendly websites are very important.
