Introduction During the last decade, our ability to collect and store data has far outpaced our ability to process, analyze and exploit it. (Compieta et al. 2007) we collect more data than be we can actually process there is more information in the data than we have exploited so far data availability is not the problem, its data access we need to improve our methods and tools for data processing and analysis 18/12/2009 roman.gerlach@uni-jena.de 2

What s missing? flexibility and openness interoperability among these existing systems standards and technologies do exist, but only a limited number of implementations to date mitigation between domain specific standards and data models Improved access to data and analysis tools would lead to increased knowledge extraction from existing data 18/12/2009 roman.gerlach@uni-jena.de 8
Approach Generic approach for web analysis service interoperable through OGC Web Services (SOA) can be operated with a simple Web browser, no additional software is needed for the user utilize existing visualization and analysis tools (e.g. R, IDL, ) independent from scale (applicable to any spatial and temporal resolution) independent from data format (standard in- and output interface) Data Provider Service Provider User Data Standard Interface Standard Interface Analysis Service Standard Interface Standard Interface Client Front End 18/12/2009 roman.gerlach@uni-jena.de 9
