WordPress File Monitor Plus Plugin Configuration Open Source Varsity To configure the WordPress file monitor plus plugin on your WordPress driven Blog / website, login to WordPress as administrator, by simply entering the url_of_your_website/wp-admin in your Browser. Enter the appropriate username and password {which was provided while installing Wordpress} and then click on Log In as shown in Diagram 1. Diagram 1 After logging in as WordPress Admin, a Dashboard page opens as shown in Diagram 2. The Dashboard provides access to different WordPress functions and features. Diagram 2 1

In the left menu, locate the link Settings. Click on Settings from the drop down menu that appears click WordPress File Monitor Plus as shown in Diagram 3. Diagram 3 The WordPress File Monitor Plus settings page is displayed as shown in Diagram 4. Configure the following settings as per the requirement: Cron method: Set the cron method to: Wordpress Cron : Built in cron scheduler which automatically run the file scan. WordPress by default has a limited number of scan intervals. Other Cron: Cron scheduler which allows you to run it externally. An external cron gives you greater flexibility on when to run the file monitor scan. File Check Interval: Set the interval for file checking as per your requirement. The options provided are hourly, twice daily, daily and manual. Data Save Method: Set the location for saving the data. The options provided are database and file. Notify By Email: Set the option to Yes to receive email notification for any alerts. From/Notify Email Address: Enter receive from / receive to email address for email notification. Admin Alert: Set this to Yes, if you want to receive alerts at the administrative backend of WordPress CMS when any of the WordPress file is modified/deleted or added. File Check Method: Select the checkbox of the required option. It will be displayed after performing manual scan and obtaining reports when WordPress File Monitor Plus has detected a change in the files on your site. 2

File Check Root: By default it is set to the location of WordPress install directory. File Names / Dir names / Exact Files / Exact Dir To Ignore : Enter the filenames, directory names in the respective section to be ignored while scanning. File Extensions Scan : New feature added in WordPress File Monitor Plus (version 1.3). Select the Disabled, Exclude files that have an extension listed below and Only scan files that have an extension listed below from the drop down list values according to requirement. File Extensions : New feature added in WordPress File Monitor Plus (version 1.3). If the File Extension Scan is not set as Disabled then enter the extension(s) value in the textbox. Separate each extensions with character. Once done, click Save changes as shown in Diagram 4. Diagram 4 3

You can click on Manual scan to check for any changes in the WordPress installation directory as shown in Diagram 5. Diagram 5 Manual scan completed message is displayed as shown in Diagram 6 If in case any of the WordPress file has been changed/deleted or added, Warning! WordPress File Monitor has detected a change in the files on your site message is displayed as shown in Diagram 6. NOTE: If required, the admin alerts can be stopped by setting the Admin Alert to No in the WordPress File Monitor Plus settings. Diagram 6 4

Click View file changes and clear this text as shown in Diagram 7. Diagram 7 The detailed reports regarding File Changed, File Added and File Removed are obtained as shown in Diagram 8. In our case, in the wp-activate file in the WordPress CMS some modification was encountered. So the plugin recommended to, that the file be checked immediately. NOTE: According to the option set in File Check Method in the WordPress File Monitor Plus Settings, the information is displayed accordingly. Diagram 8 NOTE: This message displays a great deal of detail associated with a file or file(s) that have been modified/added or removed from the WordPress core files. If any file is changed, then manually navigate to where the file is and rename the file to take it out of circulation. Next copy the same file from a fresh WordPress installation of an identical version of WordPress to the active website. Test to ensure that the website runs correctly. Finally, delete the re-named file. If any file is removed, then manually navigate to where the file was. Next copy the same file from a fresh WordPress installation of an identical version of WordPress to the active website. Test to ensure that the website runs correctly. 5

If any file is added, then manually navigate to where the file is and rename the file to take it out of circulation.
