Value-Added Functionality for Server Management 2.0 Software Server Management 2.0 software is an evolution of earlier Unisys management software releases, including Unisys Server Sentinel. The following are software enhancements for Server Management 2.0. Virtual Machine Management When you install the Server Management 2.0 software on your management server, you can manage virtual machines. See the following topic, Infrastructure Solutions Console, for more information. Infrastructure Solutions Console The Infrastructure Solutions Console is the main user interface for the Server Management 2.0 software. It is designed to help you manage your enterprise at a glance. The Infrastructure Solutions Console can manage physical components as well as virtual components enabled through VMware ESX Server. The Infrastructure Solutions Console includes multiple panes and tabs that enable you to navigate through your datacenter hierarchy to manage your systems quickly and easily. The left pane presents a consolidated view of all the managed systems, servers, and partitions in your datacenter. The right pane provides information about the component selected in the left pane. 2 8216 3445 000
For example, select the Datacenter node in the left pane to view information about the datacenter as a whole and the commands you can perform. Select a system to view information about the system as a whole and the commands you can perform. For physical components including your datacenter, systems, and physical servers and partitions the Administration tab displays a list of commands that you can perform for the selected component. For virtual components, including virtual machine monitors and virtual machines, the Summary tab displays a list of commands you can perform. Note: While using the Infrastructure Solutions Console, if you select a system running an earlier version of Unisys management software, a new browser window might open to display an earlier software interface. You can then manage the system through the new browser window. The Infrastructure Solutions Console can be used to manage ES7000 Model 7405R G1 systems and ES7000/one systems, and it can be used to monitor other ES7000 and ClearPath systems in your environment. AppManager 6.0 and 7.0 To enhance the Server Management software capabilities, your environment can include AppManager software. With the Server Management 2.0 release, you have the option to install either AppManager 6.0 or AppManager 7.0 software. This software is automatically included with your order at no additional charge. Both AppManager 6.0 and AppManager 7.0 offer enhancements over previous AppManager software, including improved performance, scalability, security, and monitoring. The AppManager management software can be installed on your primary management server (the management server on which you plan to install Server Management 2.0 software) or on another management server in your environment. You install the AppManager software during the Server Management software installation process. See Section 4, Installing Server Management 2.0, for information about how to access the Server Management software installation documentation. Server Management Manager and Agent Server Management 2.0 software includes Server Management Manager and Server Management Agent software. Server Management Manager enables a system administrator to manage a network by monitoring system hardware and software configurations, system failures, and system performance. With log data collected by Server Management Manager, a system administrator can track long-term and short-term performance, monitor usage, create graphs to record trends, and check failure rates. System administrators can use the information collected to create more efficient data routing procedures and optimize server and partition usage. Server Management Manager is installed on the management server along with other Server Management 2.0 software. 8216 3445 000 3
Server Management Agent is installed on servers and partitions running Windows, Linux, and VMware ESX Server. Server Management Agent monitors software and firmware and uses SNMP to transmit the information to Server Management Manager. Server Management Agent enables the system administrator to view system settings and reset some Server Management Agent thresholds locally. Server Management Manager and Agent use five graphical user interfaces: Operation Window Enables you to add, edit, or delete managed systems and launch other management tools. Alert Manager - Directs and manages reports on server and partition alerts. AlertViewer Displays alert messages issued by managed systems. DataViewer Displays a list of detailed system information collected by Server Management Agent. Agent Control Panel Enables you to configure operational settings for Server Management Agent. Domain Accounts for Server Management Services Account The Server Management Services Account which facilitates authentication and authorization between components running Unisys management software has been enhanced over previous releases of Unisys management software. It now enables domain account authorization in addition to local Windows user account authorization. If your security settings prohibit local Windows user accounts from having Administrator privileges, you can use the domain account option instead. To use this option Each computer including the management server, Windows servers and partitions, and Service Processors either must be in the same domain or must be in a domain that has a trusted relationship with the management server domain. Management servers and ES7000 Model 7405R G1 servers configured with Windows operating systems must be running Server Management 2.0 software. If you have any other Unisys systems in your environment, their Windows servers and partitions and Service Processors must be running Server Sentinel 4.x with the latest available Interim Correction (IC) provided on the Unisys Product Support Web site. The domain account must be configured with Administrator privileges using the standard Windows method, and you must know the user name and password for the account. You configure the Server Management Services Account through the Infrastructure Solutions Console. See the Infrastructure Solutions Console Help for more information about how to access the Server Management Services Account setting and view taskspecific help. 4 8216 3445 000
Core Unisys Management Software Functionality Since Server Management 2.0 software is an evolution of earlier Unisys management software, such as Unisys Server Sentinel, some core functionality remains the same. The following text describes the core functionality; if you are a new customer or if you are unsure about the capabilities of your Unisys management software, review the following topics. Understanding Server Management 2.0 Server Management software provides at-a-glance management capabilities for new and existing Unisys ES7000 and ClearPath systems in your environment. The healthmonitoring capabilities of Server Management software deliver policy definition and event notification to monitor the health of the hardware and software environment. Monitoring is continuous and in real time, providing rapid notification of fault conditions. For example, real-time views of CPU and memory usage are presented for each server and partition in your system. Role-Based Security Server Management software limits access to tasks through the use of role-based security. The user roles of Administrator, Operator, and Observer are implemented using Microsoft groups; these roles are established during the software installation. Definitions for each role are as follows: Administrator Can administer the management environment (for example, configure the management software or delete items from a log) as well as manage systems. Tasks that require Windows Administrator privilege to execute are included in this role. Operator Can manage systems and has read/write access to most management functions. Tasks that require Windows Administrator privilege are excluded from this role. Observer Can observe systems. The Observer role provides read-only access to most management functions. For existing customers, these roles are identical to those established for earlier versions of Unisys management software, which means that you do not have to reconfigure your user groups for the Server Management 2.0 release. For more information, refer to the Server Management 2.0 Installation and Configuration Guide. 8216 3445 000 5
Call Home Call Home enables you to monitor the generation and delivery of service request packets to the Unisys Support Center. These packets contain information on system or controller errors that are determined according to a predefined set of conditions. Internet access is the preferred method for Call Home to communicate with the Unisys Support Center. Using this communication path to the Unisys Support Center is beneficial because a modem and an additional phone line are not required. Call Home is installed on the management server, which enables the delivery of service events from a centralized location. Therefore, only one connection to the Unisys Support Center is required rather than a separate connection for every system on which Call Home is installed. Note: If configuring direct Internet access conflicts with your corporate security policy, you can configure access through an Internet proxy server. Alternatively, you can use a USB modem. However, the EZupdate feature is not supported over a modem. Health Advisor Health Advisor is a part of the Call Home software that gathers stability and configuration data from a system and transports that information to Unisys on a regular basis. This information is used within Unisys to generate stability reports on individual systems, specific servers and partitions, or all systems in a network to ensure that systems are meeting their reliability targets. Although Health Advisor is designed to automatically run without customer intervention, customers can use the Call Home Health Advisor Web pages to change certain settings or to configure other systems. The Health Advisor Web pages enable you to perform such tasks as View information about servers, partitions, and Service Processors. Send stability data to the Unisys Support Center. Set up a schedule for sending information to the Unisys Support Center. Health Advisor runs on the management server, which enables Health Advisor to coordinate data collection for all managed systems. Once a day, Health Advisor scans each managed system to collect stability information from servers, partitions, and Service Processors. Health Advisor automatically discovers and reports on all servers and partitions that are managed through the Infrastructure Solutions Console. Accessing Call Home You configure Call Home for ES7000 Model 7405R G1 systems during the Server Management software installation process. If you want to view or update your settings, you can access Call Home and Health Advisor information through the Infrastructure Solutions Console. See the Infrastructure Solutions Console Help for more information. 6 8216 3445 000
