7 Section 1 Introduction This section explains the purpose of a monitored server and describes when this guide should be used. Understanding Monitored Servers If your environment includes a server that is monitoring a third-party product (for example, a server running the Unisys CX Series Event Response software used to monitor EMC CLARiiON events for CX series subsystems), Unisys Server Sentinel provides software to add functionality to that server. The Server Sentinel monitored server software enables you to use the Server Sentinel Call Home and EZupdate functionality. Call Home enables you to generate service requests for the Unisys Support Center if an error is detected. EZupdate provides convenient access to updates for the monitored server software when they become available. Note: To use the Call Home functionality, you must configure Call Home from the Sentinel Management Server or Service Processor, as appropriate for your environment. Configuring Call Home identifies the monitored server as a system component that has Call Home installed and enabled. For more information about configuring this service, refer to your system s Configuration Guide. After the Server Sentinel monitored server software is installed on a server, that server is referred to as a monitored server. Using This Document If your environment includes a server that is monitoring a third-party product and you want to take advantage of the available Server Sentinel functionality, use this guide to install and configure the monitored server software. Note: Installation of the monitored server software is only qualified on independent servers and on Server Sentinel client workstations that meet the requirements listed in this document. You cannot install this software on a Service Processor, management server, or partition running Server Sentinel software. You should always install and configure software to monitor third-party products before you install the Server Sentinel monitored server software

8 Using This Document
