Introduction 8x8 is one application with two important functions: to search online for matches to Caller ID names and/or numbers and Click2Connect for outbound calling. What s new Added SugarCRM support as predefined integration option Added Zoho CRM support as predefined integration option 8x8 8x8 enables a website search of the inbound Caller ID number or Caller ID name when calls are received. We have included 16 predefined integrations/searches for your convenience: LinkedIn (search by Caller ID name) Facebook (search by Caller ID name) Gmail Contacts (search by Caller ID name) Gmail Contacts (search by Caller ID number) Google Search (search by Caller ID name) Google Search (search by Caller ID number) Bing (search by Caller ID name) Bing (search by Caller ID number) Yahoo! Here is how works Inbound calls to your 8x8 extension are received as normal and your telephone rings. Simultaneously, the inbound Caller ID phone number or name is being searched by your selected website or CRM. If a match is found, the contact with the matching telephone number or name pops up in your web browser. Even if your browser is closed, will open in a new browser window. 8x8 Click2Connect 8x8 Click2Connect is an easy way to make calls from 8x8 Virtual Office by clicking from your browser. Go from browsing the web to making a call in one easy click. Once you install 8x8 Click2Connect, telephone numbers are highlighted with a green phone icon. Click the icon and your call is connected. Click2Connect recognizes the following telephone number formats: 408-555-1212 or (408) 555-1212. Requirements Apple Mac: Apple MAC OS X 10.6x or higher MAC Browsers: Safari Version 6.0.5 Firefox 22.0 Chrome Version 27.0.1453.116 Microsoft Windows: Windows XP, Vista and Windows 7 and 8.x Windows Browsers: Explorer version 6.0 through 10.x Firefox version 3.0 and higher Chrome version 20.x and higher Opera is not supported. Note: The person installing the plug-in must have administrator rights to the PC. 4
Installation on Microsoft Windows Step 1 Download the 8x8 installer from http://www.8x8.com/support/businesssupport/pluginsandapis.aspx. The Windows MSI file is automatically downloaded. Locate the file and double-click on it to initiate the install. Note: and Click2Connect are the same client application and share the same file name. Step 2 A Windows Unknown Publisher warning will pop up. Press the Run option. Note: The installer will now create a shortcut in Start Menu > Programs > Startup. 8x8 will start whenever the user logs in to Windows. If the user does not want this behavior, they can delete the shortcut from the Start Menu > Programs > Startup folder. 5
Step 3 Follow the 8x8 Setup Wizard. Step 4 Select and click Install Now. 6
Step 5 You will see a message indicating that 8x8 has been successfully installed. Step 6 Restart your computer. 7
Start the application on Microsoft Windows 1. Locate and double click on the 8x8 shortcut on your desktop to launch the application. Another option is to select 8x8 from the Windows Start menu. 8
2. You will be prompted to install an extension for Mozilla Firefox browser and an extension for Chrome browser if these browsers are installed on your PC. Click on Yes to install; this will allow you to use Click2Connect from these browsers. Enter your 8x8 Virtual Office username and password to log In. 3. When login is completed, a notification is sent from Windows saying you are ready to handle calls. 4. The web page plugin runs in the background and restarts when your computer is restarted. You can verify the plugin is running by looking in the Microsoft Windows system tray in the bottom right corner of the computer desktop. 9
Installation on Mac OS 10.6.x or higher Step 1 Download the 8x8 installer from http://www.8x8.com/support/businesssupport/pluginsandapis.aspx. Locate the file and initiate the install. Note: and Click2Connect are the same client application and share the same file name. Step 2 Follow the on-screen instructions for installation. 10
Step 3 Enter your administrator credentials to authorize the installation. Step 4 Click Close to complete the installation. 11
Start the application on Mac 1. Use Launch Pad to start the application. Once started, the application icon appears in the menu bar at the top of the desktop. 2. The application will prompt you to allow access to your contacts. To enable Click2Connect from your browser for one-click outbound dialing, click on Yes to continue. 12
Select and install the corresponding browser extensions 3. Enter your 8x8 username and password. Select Remember Password and Launch on startup if preferred. Press the Login button to continue. 13
Using 8x8 Click2Connect Once you install 8x8 Click2Connect, phone numbers on your web pages are automatically highlighted with a green phone handset icon. Simply click on the telephone icon and your 8x8 desktop phone or softphone will ring. Answer the 8x8 phone and your call will connect. Using 8x8 1. Configure by right-clicking on the application in the Microsoft Windows system tray and selecting Configure. On the Mac, click on the application located on the menu bar and select Configure. Note: For best results using with Gmail contacts, open Google Chrome or the Firefox browser and select that browser as the default. 14
2. Select a website for your inbound call search. Your selection is active immediately; there is no need to Save. 3. Now enable automatic lookup and browser pop by checking the box next to Automatically open the web page. 4. Choose which action will trigger the browser pop: when receiving a call or when answering a call from the drop down list. 5. Select the checkbox to Display a desktop alert when I receive a call. 6. Manually close the dialog box by clicking the X in the upper right corner. 15
Closing the dialog box keeps running in the background and you can see in your Microsoft Windows system tray. Mouse over the 8x8 icon to see your current status. 7. Place a test call to your 8x8 Virtual Office telephone number from another phone. If you checked Display a desktop alert when I receive a call, you will see the desktop alert in addition to the web page pop from the selected web page. Create your own custom screen-pop searches allows you to create your own custom screen-pop search within the listed websites or with a custom URL. 1. Select the Customize option to create your search. The URL and variables are now exposed for you to modify as needed. 16
2. You can also build your own search by selecting Custom and checking the Customize box. Enter your desired URL as your starting point. Your custom URL will remain active in until you decide to change it. We recommend you save the custom URL and variable in a safe place for future reference. 3. Please note that your custom search will remain even if you should revert to a predefined URL. The custom search will be cleared only if you modify it with a new URL.
