DESCRIPTION: The Sentry Model HM-W536 power supply converts a 115 VAC / 60Hz input, to a 12VDC or 24VDC fused limited output and terminal connections for power cable runs used with the Sentry Freedom wireless emergency call system for powering dome lights, remote pull stations, wireless receivers and smoke detectors. The HM-W536 includes battery backup for 12 VDC circuits in its default configuration, *an additional battery will need to be ordered separately when used in a 24VDC configuration. The HM-W536 power supply comes with a terminal board for wiring cable runs, grommets or box cable clamps not included. The terminal board is individually fused using an eight position terminal strip and fused at 3.5 amps each. The terminal strip includes power LED and power on / off switch. The HM-W536 has the ability to monitor AC loss and battery back-up troubles when used with the Sentry Freedom wireless emergency call system using the included EN1212 wireless transmitter that is mounted on the cabinet. SPECIFICATIONS: Input 115VAC / 60Hz, 3.5 amp. Output: 12VDC or 24DC 6 amp continuous supply current. Built-in charger for sealed lead acid or gel type batteries. Automatic switch over to stand-by battery when AC fails. Maximum charge current 0.7 amp AC fail supervision AC input and DC output LED indicators. Low battery supervision (form "C" contacts). Battery presence and low battery supervision (form "C" contacts). Short circuit and thermal overload protection. Unit is complete with power supply, enclosure, cam lock. Includes battery leads. Enclosure Dimensions: 13.5 H x 13 W x 3.25 D 7 Ah Battery included for 12V operation, additional battery required for 24 VDC, ordered separately using part no. HM-731 Power Supply Output Specifications: Output Switch Position 12VDC SW1 CLOSED (default setting) 24VDC SW1 OPEN Installation Instructions: Wiring methods shall be in accordance with the National Electrical Code/NFPA 70/NFPA 72/ANSI, and with all local codes and authorities having jurisdiction. Product is intended for indoor use only. 1. Mount unit in desired location. Mark and predrill holes in the wall to line up with the top two key holes in the enclosure. Install two upper fasteners and screws in the wall with the screw heads protruding. Place the enclosure s upper keyholes over the two upper screws, level and secure. Mark the position of the lower two holes. Remove the enclosure. Drill the lower holes and install the two fasteners. Place the enclosure s upper keyholes over the two upper screws. Install the two lower screws and make sure to tighten all screws. 2. The power supply is pre-wired to the ground (chassis). Connect main incoming ground to the provided green grounding conductor lead. Connect unswitched AC power (115VAC / 60 Hz to terminals marked [L, N]. Use 14 AWG or larger for all power connections (Battery, DC output, AC input). Use 22 AWG to 18 AWG for power-limited circuits (AC Fail/Low Battery reporting). Keep power-limited wiring separate from non-power limited wiring (115VAC / 60Hz Input, DC Output, Battery Wires). Minimum 0.25 spacing must be provided. 2
3. Set the unit to the desired DC output voltage by setting SW1 to the appropriate position, either 12VDC or 24DC, default is 12VDC. 4. Measure output voltage before connecting any devices to ensure proper operation. Improper or high voltage will damage these devices. When servicing the unit, AC mains should be removed. 5. Connect device(s) to be powered, (see figure 1) 1 to 8 marked [1P & 1N thru 8P & 8N] carefully observing correct polarity, P terminals are 12 VDC positive and N terminals are 12 VDC negative. Be sure that total devices on each cable run do not exceed 3.5 amps. 6. When the use of stand-by batteries is desired, they must be lead acid or gel type. If 24 VDC configuration is required, an additional battery is required, ordered separately part no. HM-731. See section on 24 VDC operation. 7. Please insure that the cover is secured with the provided Key Lock. Figure 1 Terminal Board Connections Wiring: Use 18 AWG or larger for all power connections. Note: Take care to keep power-limited circuits separate from non-power limited wiring (115VAC, Battery). Maintenance: Unit should be tested at least once a year for the proper operation as follows: Output Voltage Test: Under normal load conditions, the DC output voltage should be checked for proper voltage level. Battery Test: Under normal load conditions check that the battery is fully charged, check specified voltage both at battery terminal and at the board terminals marked [+BAT ] to insure there is no break in the battery connection wires. Note: Maximum charging current under discharges is 0.7 amp. Note: Expected battery life is 5 years; however it is recommended changing batteries in 4 years or less if needed. 3
