2 1.5 SYSTEM DESCRIPTION A. Fire Alarm System: NFPA 72, automatic fire alarm system with connections to central station. 1.6 SUBMITTALS A. Submit four (4) sets of fire Alarm shop drawings, product data, voltage drop calculations, and battery calculations to Intergroup Architects prior to installation. B. Shop Drawings: Provide annunciator layout and system wiring diagram showing each device and wiring connection required. C. Product Data: Provide electrical characteristics and connection requirements. D. Test Reports: Indicate satisfactory completion of required tests and inspections. E. Manufacturer's Installation Instructions: Indicate application conditions and limitations of use stipulated by Product testing agency. Include instructions for storage, handling, protection, examination, preparation, installation, and starting of products. 1.7 PROJECT RECORD DOCUMENTS A. Submit four (4) sets of record drawings (incorporate field changes) to Architect. B. Record actual locations of initiating devices, notificaiton appliances, and end-of-line devices. 1.8 OPERATION AND MAINTENANCE DATA A. Submit four (4) sets of ) O&M manuals. B. Operation Data: Operating instructions. C. Maintenance Data: Maintenance and repair procedures. 1.9 QUALIFICATIONS A. Manufacturer: Company specializing in manufacturing the products specified in this section with minimum three years experience, and with service facilities within 25 or 50 miles of Project. B. Installer: Company specializing in installing the products specified in this section with minimum three years documented experience, and certified by State of Florida as fire alarm installer. 3 1.10 REGULATORY REQUIREMENTS A. Conform to requirements of NFPA 70, 72, and NFPA 101. B. Furnish products listed and classified by UL or agency acceptable to authority having jurisdiction as suitable for purpose specified and indicated MAINTENANCE SERVICE A. Furnish service and maintenance of fire alarm system for one year from Date of Substantial Completion EXTRA MATERIALS A. Notification 10% of each type of device, minimum three of each type. PART 2 - PRODUCTS 2.0 GENERAL A. All equipment and materials used shall be standard components, regularly manufactured, and regularly utilized in the manufacturer's system. B. All systems and components shall have been thoroughly tested and proven in actual use. C. All equipment shall be listed and labeled by Underwriters Laboratories. D. All sensors shall be of the intelligent type where possible. All sensors intelligent shall mount on a common base. E. Where equipment of different manufacturers is used, such equipment shall be included under the required overall UL system listing as a component of the integrated fire alarm system. F. The system shall be designed to operate with the unshielded wire, to the maximum practicable extent. 2.1 MANUFACTURERS A. Subject to compliance with specified requirements, products of the following manufacturers are acceptable: 1. Edwards (EST) Notifier Simplex or approved. 2.2 FIRE ALARM AND SMOKE DETECTION CONTROL PANEL A. Control Panel: Modular construction with surface wall-mounted enclosure. Tampa, Florida

4 B. Power supply: Adequate to serve control panel modules, remote detectors, remote annunciators, relays, and alarm signaling devices. Include battery-operated emergency power supply with capacity for operating system in standby mode for 24 hours followed by alarm mode for 5 minutes. C. System Supervision: Component or power supply failure places system in trouble mode. D. Initiating Device Circuits: Supervised zone module with alarm and trouble indication; occurrence of single ground or open condition places circuit in trouble mode but does not disable that circuit from initiating an alarm. E. Notification Appliance Circuits: Supervised temperate three signal module, sufficient for notification appliances connected to system; occurrence of single ground or open condition places circuit in trouble mode. F. Remote Station Signal Transmitter: Electrically supervised digital alarm communicator transmitter, capable of transmitting alarm and trouble signals over telephone lines to central station receiver. G. Trouble Sequence of Operation: System or circuit trouble places system in trouble mode, which causes the following system operations: 1. Visual and audible trouble alarm indicated at fire alarm control panel. 2. Visual and audible trouble alarm indicated at remote annunciator panel. 3. Trouble signal transmitted to central station. 4. Manual acknowledge function at fire alarm control panel silences audible trouble alarm; visual alarm is displayed until initiating failure or circuit trouble is cleared. H. Alarm Sequence of Operation: Actuation of initiating device places circuit in alarm mode, which causes the following system operations: 1. Sound and display local fire alarm notification appliances with temperate three signal. 2. Transmit signal to central station. 3. Indicate location of alarm on fire alarm control panel and on remote annunciator panel. 4. Shutdown the fans. 5. Transmit signal to release developed egress doors. I. Alarm Reset: System remains in alarm mode until manually reset with key-accessible Tampa, Florida

5 reset function; system resets only if initiating circuits are out of alarm mode. 2.3 INITIATING DEVICES A. General: 1. Each device shall be assigned a unique address. Address selection by jumpers is not acceptable. 2. Devices shall receive power and communication from the same pair of wires. For fault-tolerant circuits, any separate power wiring shall also be made faulttolerant. 3. Each device shall contain screw terminals with rising plates for positive termination of up to #14 AWG wire. B. Manual Station: Surface mounted, non-coded type, double action manual station with break-glass rod. Provide manufacturer's standard backbox. C. Duct Mounted Smoke Detector: Photoelectric type with auxiliary SPDT relay contact, key-operated NORMAL-RESET-EST switch, duct sampling tubes extending width of duct, and visual indication of detector actuation, in duct-mounted housing. 2.4 NOTIFICATION APPLIANCES A. Visible Appliance: Stobe lamp and flasher with red & white lettered "FIRE" on bezel and clear. B. Audio Appliance: 1. Horn: Surface or flush alarm horn. Sound Rating: 87 Db at 10 feet. Provide integral strobe lamp and flasher with red lettered "FIRE" on clear lens. C. Remote Annunciator: Provide supervised remote annunciator including audible and visual indication of fire alarm by zone, and audible and visual indication of system trouble. Install in flush wall-mounted enclosure. 2.5 AUXILIARY DEVICES A. Monitor Modules: 1. The Monitor Mudule shall provide an addressable input for N.O. or N.C. contact devices such as manual stations, water flow switches, sprinkler supervisory devices, door contacts, intrusion detectors, etc. 2. The Monitor Module shall provide a supervised initiating circuit. An opencircuit fault shall be annunciated at the FACP. Tampa, Florida

6 3. The Module shall mount in a standard electrical box. B. Controls Modules: 1. The Control Module shall provide an addressable output for a separatelypowered alarm-indicating circuit or for a control relay. 2. The Control Module shall provide a supervised indicating circuit where indicated on the drawings. An open-circuit fault shall be annunciated at the FACP. 3. The Control Module shall provide a control relay where indicated on the plans. The relay contacts shall be SPST (Form "C" rated at 2 amps at 28 VDC). 2.6 OTHER DEVICES 4. The module shall mount in a standard electrical box. A. Tamper Switches: Furnished by Sprinkler Contractor wired by Fire Alarm. B. Flow Switches: Furnished by Sprinkler Contractor wired by Fire Alarm. C. Provide addressable control and/or monitor module for each device indicated in paragraphs A & B above. Include wiring to the device and to the fire alarm loop as required. D. Provide control relays as required to accomplish functions such as fan shutdown, door release, etc. Relays shall have 24 VDC coils, with DPDT contacts rated at 10A, minimum, at 120 VAC, shall be provided with screw terminals, and shall be UL listed as fire alarm control accessories. Relay enclosures shall provide conduit knockouts at top and bottom, and shall have manufacturer's standard finish. Control relays shall be installed near the associated fire alarm system control modules. 2.7 FIRE ALARM WIRE AND CABLE A. Fire Alarm Power Branch Circuits: Building wire as specified in Section B. Initiating Device and Notification Appliance Circuits: As specified by the equipment manufacturer PART 3 - EXECUTION 3.1 INSTALLATION A. Install products in accordance with manufacturer's instructions. B. Mount end-of-line device box with last device or separate box adjacent to last device in Tampa, Florida

7 circuit. C. Mount outlet box for electric door holder to withstand 80 pounds pulling force. D. Make conduit and wiring connections to door release devices, sprinkler flow switches, sprinkler valve tamper switches, duct smoke detectors. E. Automatic Detector Installation: Conform to NFPA FIELD QUALITY CONTROL A. Test in accordance with NFPA 72 and local fire department requirements. 3.3 MANUFACTURER'S FIELD SERVICES A. Prepare and start systems. B. Include services of certified technician to supervise installation, adjustments, final connections, and system testing. 3.4 DEMONSTRATION A. Demonstrate normal and abnormal modes of operation, and required responses to each. END OF SECTION Tampa, Florida
