IN THE BEGINNING Chapter 1 How to Add Files to a Backup. Backup online or to ANY local storage device! Thumb drive, Mapped Drive, Hard drive or ipod! T here are two different types of backups that you can perform utilizing DataSol Backup VAULT software. 1- Online Backups Schedule a single job that backs up all selected files to the DataSol VAULT secure online system 2- Local Backups Schedule multiple Full and Incremental backup jobs to any storage drive Figure 1- Wizard View Initial Startup Screen 1 Page
Expand/collapse the tree view. Check folders and files to be added to the backup Figure 2 Selecting Files Both scheduled and unscheduled backups can be run immediately by leaving the Run backup now option checked. Figure 3 Running Backups 2
How to Recover Your Files Recovery can be completed via the DataSol Backup VAULT utility or directly via the web from ANY computer with an internet connection. F rom the Wizard Launch Page, select Restore Online. To do full recovery, do not filter the results; leave the calendar and filter boxes at their default. After recovery data is fully retrieved from the server (the processing graphic stops rotating), click Next. Figure 4 Restore Selection Page 3
The tree view displays all systems backed up under this account. Check any/all systems to do a full recovery of the files and folders. Checking a system tree view node automatically checks all the files and folders beneath that folder. Figure 5 Selecting files to restore How to recover an individual file In Step 1, Search for backups to recover from. (See screenshot above) Filters can be set to locate the desired file more easily. In Step 2, Select backups. (See Figure 5 above) Expand the tree view to find the desired file within the appropriate system. Check only the file to be recovered. 4
How to Recover a Particular Version of a File. One of the strengths of DataSol Backup VAULT is the UNLIMITED versioning storage. There is no need to rename files and take up precious storage space. A fter selecting restore Online In Step 2, Select backups, of the Online Recovery Wizard. If more than one version has been backed up, these versions will appear in a drop down box in the file list in the right pane Select any item in the drop down box to recover that version to any location you nominate. How to enable Live Protect for Continuous Data Protection (CDP). Concerned about losing that file that you have been working on for hours and hours? Enable CDP and rest easy. Synchronize ONLY your bit level changes. T o set LiveProtect on important files, click Backup Online from the Wizard Launch page to start the Online Backup Wizard. In Step 1, What do you want to back up? Right-click in the file list in the right pane window any important file to be LiveProtected and select Enable LiveProtect. Figure 7- Enabling Live Protect 6
How to Access and Share Your Files Remotely. Securely access your files from ANY PC from any PC with a browser and an internet connection. G o to https://myaccount.sosonlinebackup.com. Enter username and password. Click Online Recovery. Recover All your system names are displayed in the web page as in the screenshot below. Drill down to the file you want to recover. Figure 8 Accessing your files online Navigate down to and then click on a file that you wish to share with others. Click the share option on a given file or folder to share it. Note: At this time, sharing large folders (with the version 4 beta) is not recommended. By doing so, it can take quite a significant amount of time to process the request. How to Set your Filters Simplify your selections and modify your advanced options. A ll files and folders selected for protection in the Online Backup Wizard can also be seen in the Classic View. Classic View includes further options for filtering which files are protected. Access the Classic View through the Advanced button on the Wizard Launch page OR by the Classic View button in the Wizard. In Classic View, select the Options tab. Select Protected File Type Filters and then set desired options. Figure 10 Setting Options 8
How to Backup Open Files DataSol, Backup VAULT now intelligently backs up open files. This process happens automatically; there is no extra configuration required of the end user. 9
