IIBA cmplies with all applicable laws and regulatins, including the Americans with Disabilities Act. 3.0 IIBA BABOK Guide Overview The Business Analysis Bdy f Knwledge (BABOK ) Guide is the cllectin f knwledge within the prfessin f business analysis and reflects current generally accepted practices. The BABOK Guide is defined and enhanced by the business analysis prfessinals wh apply it in their daily lives. The BABOK Guide describes business analysis areas f knwledge, their assciated activities and tasks, and the skills necessary t be effective in their executin. Since the BABOK Guide is grwing and evlving, each release must be cnsidered a mve tward the cmplete bdy f knwledge. Additins will be made peridically based n feedback and changes t generally accepted practices. While specific business analysis techniques may be referenced in the BABOK Guide, the criteria fr including infrmatin in the guide are that it is prven, generally accepted and widely applied. The BABOK Guide is a reference fr prfessinal knwledge fr business analysis and prvides the basis fr the CBAP certificatin. The BABOK Guide is cmpsed f six knwledge areas plus underlying cmpetencies. 4.0 Abut the CBAP Certificatin 4.1 What is Certificatin? There are many definitins f prfessinal certificatin, but the general meaning invlves the cncept f a certifying rganizatin apprving the knwledge, experience, skills, and expertise f the certified individual. Certificatin invlves frmal recgnitin f achievement after prving cmpetency thrugh an actual demnstratin f a designated set f skills and/r knwledge. A business analysis prfessinal certificatin is f grwing imprtance within business and infrmatin technlgy prjects as the range and depth f required prfessinal knwledge cntinues t expand. The CBAP certificatin prcess includes demnstrating the required experience, knwledge and cmpetencies f a qualified practitiner f business analysis accrding t requirements designated by IIBA. 4.2 Definitin f a Business Analysis Practitiner The business analysis practitiner is respnsible fr identifying the business needs f his r her clients and stakehlders t help determine slutins t business prblems. The business analysis practitiner is respnsible fr requirements develpment and requirements management. Specifically, the business analysis practitiner elicits, analyzes, validates and dcuments business, rganizatinal and/r peratinal requirements. Slutins are nt predetermined by the business analysis practitiner, but are driven slely by the requirements f the business. Slutins ften include a systems develpment cmpnent, but may als cnsist f prcess imprvement r rganizatinal change. The business analysis practitiner is a key facilitatr within an rganizatin, acting as a bridge between the client, stakehlders and the slutin team. Business analysis is distinct frm financial analysis, prject management, quality assurance, rganizatinal develpment, testing, training, and dcumentatin develpment. Hwever, depending n the rganizatin, a business analysis practitiner may perfrm sme r all f these related functins. 4.3 CBAP Certificatin Prgram Overview A CBAP recipient is an elite member f the business analysis cmmunity, and a recgnized expert in identifying the business needs f an rganizatin in rder t determine business slutins. CBAP recipients are senir BAs wh have the skill and expertise t perfrm business analysis wrk n prjects f varius sizes and cmplexities. Mre and mre cmpanies are recgnizing the CBAP designatin and the value and expertise these prfessinals bring t their rganizatins. This certificatin prgram has been carefully designed t be in cmpliance with the Internatinal Standards Organizatin (ISO) 17024 standard fr certifying the cmpetence f persnnel. The prgram is als intended t achieve ISO apprval. Certificatin applicants shuld be aware that the applicatin prcess is a screening prcess fr the exam. Therefre, applicants shuld be very familiar with the requirements fr applying, and with the applicatin prcess as described further in this handbk. This CBAP certificatin is targeted t senir business analysts nly. IIBA s Certificatin f Cmpetency in Business Analysis (CCBA ) certificatin is fr experienced business analysts wh have acquired cre BA skills. The certificatin examinatin is ffered in the English, German and Japanese language; ther languages may be included in the future. A certificatin applicant is nt required t be an IIBA member in rder t take the certificatin examinatin, but IBA members receive discunts n certificatin exam fees. 4.4 Benefits f CBAP Certificatin Benefits t the individual may include: Cmpetence in the principles and practices f business analysis. Demnstrates cmmitment t the field f business analysis, increasingly recgnized as a vital cmpnent f any successful prject. 5.0 CBAP Certificatin Requirements Each CBAP applicant must meet the requirements specified in this sectin t be eligible t write the exam. T earn the CBAP designatin, applicants must meet the fllwing criteria: Minimum 7500 hurs f BA wrk experience aligned with the BABOK Guide in the last 10 years Minimum 900 hurs in each f fur f the six knwledge areas Minimum 21 hurs f Prfessinal Develpment in the past fur years Tw references frm a career manager, client r CBAP recipient Signed Cde f Cnduct If yu dn t meet the requirements fr the CBAP certificatin, yu may want t cnsider applying fr the CCBA Designatin 5.1 Wrk Experience Requirement 7,500 hurs (apprximately five years) f business analysis wrk experience in the last ten years engaged in tasks specifically aligned with the knwledge areas and underlying cmpetencies defined within the BABOK Guide. The ten year time frame is based n the applicatin submitted date. The business analysis wrk experience can either be activities the applicant has applied directly OR activities the applicant has assisted thers in applying all activities must be aligned with the BABOK Guide knwledge areas and underlying cmpetencies. Acceptable activities include: Hands-n business analysis activities (e.g., requirements gathering, writing requirements dcumentatin, etc.). Caching r mentring business analysts with respect t business analysis activities (e.g., planning the requirements gathering prcess with the BA, reviewing requirements dcuments, etc.). Activities that are nt acceptable include: Nn-supervisry management f business analysis activities (e.g., resurce management, status reprting, perfrmance management, etc.). Teaching f business analysis training curses. Selling requirements tls/sftware. Prject management. Testing (e.g., creating and executing test scripts, reprting n testing status, creating test plans/strategies, etc.). Prgramming. 7

The Wrk Experience sectin f the applicatin frm must be filled ut by prject as fllws: Fr several small prjects within the same year, thse prjects shuld be cmbined int ne prject. Indicate this n the applicatin under Descriptin. 8
List prjects in date rder with the mst recent prject experience first. It is mandatry that at least 7500 hurs f BA related wrk in the last ten years has been dcumented in rder t meet the applicatin requirement. Resumes will nt be accepted t cmplete this requirement. Fr each prject, enter yur Ttal BA Hurs. These hurs will cunt twards the minimum 7500 hurs f business analysis wrk experience requirement and the minimum 900 hurs in fur f the six Knwledge Areas requirement. The Ttal BA Hurs and the tasks yu select must be aligned with the BABOK Guide v2.0. Fr each prject, frm the list f tasks in the table, check ff the tasks yu have cmpleted that are aligned with the BABOK Guide v2.0. D this fr each f the six Knwledge Areas. Yu can select a task when yu have either perfrmed the task yurself r cached/mentred anther business analyst in perfrming the task. Fr each Knwledge Area, indicate the percentage f the Ttal BA Hurs yu spent n the tasks yu selected. The percentages acrss all f the Knwledge Areas must ttal 100 within a prject. Nte: Any tasks yu select that are nt aligned with the BABOK Guide v2.0 will be remved and the crrespnding hurs will be deducted frm yur Ttal BA Hurs. This culd result in yur Ttal BA Hurs falling belw the minimum 7500 hurs required and/r the minimum 900 hurs required in fur ut f the six Knwledge Areas. If either ccurs, yur applicatin will be declined. 2. During the assessment prcess, the hurs deducted fr wrk experience the applicant selects that is nt aligned with the BABOK Guide are calculated as fllws: a) We take the percentage entered fr a Knwledge Area (KA) and multiply it by the number f Ttal BA Hurs entered fr the prject t determine the number f BA Hurs fr that KA. b) We then subtract the percentage f invalid experience that is selected (i.e., experience nt aligned with the BABOK Guide) t ttal experience selected fr that KA t cme up with the valid BA Hurs fr that KA. c) We d the same fr all KAs. d) Then we add up the valid Ttal BA Hurs fr KAs acrss all prjects t ensure the applicant meets the 900 minimum hurs requirement in fur f the six KAs (see belw fr this requirement). e) Finally, we add up the valid Ttal BA Hurs acrss all prjects t ensure the applicant meets the 7500 minimum hurs requirement. 5.2 Knwledge Area Requirement Demnstrated experience and expertise (i.e., a minimum f 900 hurs) f business analysis wrk experience engaged in tasks specifically aligned with the BABOK Guide in at least fur f the six knwledge areas. Nte: This minimum f 900 hurs in each f fur ut f the six Knwledge Areas are included in the minimum 7500 hurs required fr the Wrk Experience requirement abve. This requirement ensures there is a breadth f wrk experience acrss the Knwledge Areas. 9
5.3 Educatin Requirement High schl r equivalent educatin. This is the minimum educatinal requirement. Nte: There will be n reductin in wrk experience fr pst secndary educatin 5.4 Prfessinal Develpment Requirement A minimum f 21 hurs f prfessinal develpment in the last fur years. The prfessinal develpment must be cmpleted by the applicatin submitted date and it must meet the fllwing criteria t qualify: 1. It must be mderated/facilitated similar t a frmal curse (i.e., there must be a mderatr fr the sessin, r a facilitatr/instructr wh leads the grup/individual thrugh the material). 2. There must be a measurable learning bjective (r set f bjectives), and thse must be directly applicable t the rle f the business analyst (i.e., in terms f either changing behaviur r imprving skills). 3. It cannt simply be a presentatin n a specific tpic: a. There must be the pprtunity fr students t interact with the material (e.g., be able t ask questins, make the learning meaningful) AND b. An pprtunity t practice the task r bjective being presented and, be assessed by the facilitatr/mderatr. 4. The subject matter must be directly related t business analysis r its underlying cmpetencies as per the BABOK Guide. Nte: IIBA endrsed curses as per the Endrsed Educatin Prvider (EEP ) prgram autmatically qualify twards the 21 hurs f Prfessinal Develpment fr initial certificatin because they have already been assessed t ensure they meet the abve criteria. One hur f classrm/cntact time is equal t ne hur f Prfessinal Develpment. Fractins f Prfessinal Develpment hurs may be reprted in quarter (¼) hur increments after ne full hur. If the Prfessinal Develpment is less than ne hur, it des nt qualify fr any credit. 5.5 Reference Requirement Tw references frm a career manager, client (internal r external) r CBAP recipient are required. In additin: Include ne current cntact. All references must have knwn the applicant fr at least six mnths. A career manager is defined by IIBA as the persn wh is respnsible fr prviding and preparing the applicant s annual perfrmance review. Prject managers cannt be references unless they are als the applicant s career manager. The reference frm must clearly indicate they fill bth rles r the reference will nt qualify. Only tw references will be assessed during the applicatin assessment prcess. It is the applicant s respnsibility t ensure the reference submits their frm in time t be cnsidered fr the exam date f interest and t d any necessary fllw-up with their references. 10

Cnfidentiality f Infrmatin The CBAP Applicatin Frm, exam results and all ther CBAP certificatin prgram-related materials are kept private and cnfidential. This infrmatin will nt be disclsed t anyne ther than the applicant withut the applicant s cnsent. T request the release f an exam result t a third party, IIBA must be prvided with a written request identifying which exam result may be disclsed and the persn r rganizatin t which the result shuld be disclsed. Any vilatin f the IIBA Cnfidentiality Plicy will be subject t disciplinary actin(s) as described in the IIBA Cnstitutin. Requests shuld be submitted t the address listed n ur website at www.iiba.rg. Ntwithstanding any ther cnfidentiality bligatin wed by the IIBA t the applicant, in the event that the applicant s applicatin fee and/r examinatin fee has been paid by a third party ( Spnsr ), the applicant hereby irrevcably authrizes and directs the IIBA t release Cnfidential Results Infrmatin t that Spnsr. 6.1 Step 1: Applying fr and Paying fr CBAP Certificatin T be eligible fr the CBAP designatin, the applicant must: 1. Meet the abve applicant requirements (see Sectin 5.0). 2. Cmplete the CBAP Applicatin Frm nline. 3. Determine tw prfessinal references that indicate suitability as an applicant fr the CBAP designatin. The nline applicatin system will autmatically send an email t the references requesting them t lg in t the system t cmplete the reference prcess. 4. Agree t adhere t the CBAP Cde f Ethical Cnduct & Prfessinal Standards included in the nline applicatin. 5. Print a cpy f the nline applicatin fr recrding purpses. 6. Submit the fllwing: a. The cmpleted nline applicatin. 12
b. The applicatin fee f $125 USD (plus GST/HST fr Canadian residents) fr all applicants (IIBA member and nn-member) payable nline by credit card with the nline applicatin, r by cheque r internatinal mney rder t Internatinal Institute f Business Analysis. This fee is nt refundable regardless f whether an applicatin is apprved r declined. 7. The system will display a message indicating that the applicatin has been submitted t IIBA. 8. IIBA will assess the applicatin fr cmpleteness and fulfillment f the CBAP certificatin requirements and will ntify the applicant, via email, f the results f this assessment within tw (2) weeks f receiving the applicatin and applicatin fee. 9. If the applicatin is apprved, the applicant is eligible t write the CBAP Exam at this time. NOTE The applicant has a maximum f ne (1) year frm the date f their applicatin apprval and exam eligibility email t successfully pass the exam. It is the applicant s respnsibility t ensure the applicatin des nt lapse. 10. If an applicatin is declined, the applicant is nt eligible t write the CBAP exam at this time. The applicatin assessment results email will include the reasn the applicatin was nt apprved. The exam fee, if submitted with the applicatin package, will be refunded upn request r can be put twards the exam if the applicant intends n reapplying. The applicant may reapply fr CBAP certificatin after three (3) mnths f receiving their applicatin assessment results email and after the applicant has remedied the reasns fr the applicatin being declined. The applicant may als appeal the Certificatin Bdy s decisin t decline the applicatin; the Applicatin Appeal prcess can be btained by emailing certificatin@iiba.rg. 6.2 Step 2: Paying fr the Exam The exam fee fr English and Japanese exams is $325.00 USD (fr IIBA members) r $450 USD (fr nnmembers) (plus GST/HST fr Canadian residents). The exam fee and exam rewrite fee fr the German exam are (plus GST/HST fr Canadian residents): German CBAP Exam fee (nn-iiba members) $880 German CBAP Exam fee (IIBA members) $770 *German CBAP Exam Fee (fr SGO, GFO, ÖVO members ) $770 *If yu are nt an IIBA member but yu are a member f SGO, GFO r ÖVO, yu must email zertifizierung@the-eaba.rg t validate yur membership in rder t benefit frm the member fee and t make payment. If paying a member fee, the applicant must be a member at the time f submitting their exam fee; therwise, they must pay the nn-member fee. The exam fees pay fr the exam sitting. Exam Languages: Currently the CBAP exam is available in English, German and in Japanese. If yu prefer t take the exam in a language ther than English (i.e. Japanese r German), please select the apprpriate language in yur nline applicatin befre submitting it t IIBA OR email certificatin@iiba.rg when making yur exam fee payment and BEFORE yu register nline fr the exam. It is yur respnsibility t ensure yu are set up t take the exam in the crrect language. If d nt ntify IIBA that yu want t take the exam in a language ther than English, yu will be set up t take the exam in English. If yu request a change t the exam language AFTER yu have scheduled yur exam, yu will be subject t the exam cancellatin plicy dcumented belw and n ur website. 6.3 Step 3: Registering fr the Exam Once the exam fee has been prcessed by IIBA, there are tw ptins t register fr the exam: a. Cmputer-based testing (CBT) f the exam at a dedicated test center. Yu shuld be able t register with Prmetric 24 hurs after yu receive yur exam fee payment cnfirmatin email. A cnfirmatin email will be sent t the candidate within ne business day f registering. Please nte, when registering, the candidate will need t supply their Eligibility ID. T find ut yur Eligibility ID, lgin t the My Prfile sectin f the IIBA website at www.iiba.rg. Review available study guide(s). The CBAP exam is 3.5 hurs lng and cnsists f 150 multiple chice questins with fur pssible answers t select frm. Sme questins are based n "cmprehensin" (e.g., definitin, recall, etc.) and thers are based n "situatinal analysis" (e.g., given a scenari, which is the best curse f actin) where the applicant must d a bit f analysis t arrive at the answer. Exam Day Prcess Imprtant Once the prctr lgs yu nt the cmputer, yu have 2 minutes t cnfirm yur name and exam. If yu d nt respnd within 2 minutes OR yu d nt agree with the cnfirmatin screen (i.e. yu select NO), yur exam will end and will be scred withut the pssibility t return back t it. If this happens, yu will have t pay IIBA $100.00 USD (+GST/HST fr Canadian Residents) t reschedule yur exam. Yu will then have 2 minutes t agree t the Nn Disclsure Agreement (NDA) screen that is presented after the exam and name cnfirmatin screen. there will be n refund f yur test fee. Ntificatin f Exam Results Fr CBT exams, immediate scring is available s the candidate will see their results n the screen within minutes f submitting the exam. Applicants wh d nt successfully pass the exam will be prvided sme guidance as t the Knwledge Areas that require attentin in their results screen. In this case, the applicant is allwed t retake the exam ne time within the ne-year perid frm the date f applicatin apprval results email. Hwever, the applicant must wait three mnths frm the date f their last exam befre retaking the exam. If the exam is passed, the applicant is granted certificatin and may use the designatin f Certified Business Analysis Prfessinal (CBAP ). Exam Cancellatin Plicy If it is necessary t cancel and/r t reschedule an exam, the fllwing is the exam cancellatin prcess: Yu must cancel and/r reschedule via Prmetric s nline registratin system. If yu cancel 30 r mre days befre yur exam date, there is n charge t yu. If yu cancel 5-29 days prir t yur exam date, yu will be required t pay Prmetric a $50 USD cancellatin/rescheduling fee. If yu cancel less than five days befre yur exam date r, yu fail t appear fr a scheduled test r, yu present yurself mre than 15 minutes after the scheduled start time fr taking the test and yu are refused admissin, yu will frfeit the exam fee yu paid. In additin, yu will have t pay the full exam fee t IIBA t reschedule. 7.0 Granting CBAP Certificatin If the CBAP exam is passed, the applicant is granted Certificatin and may use the designatin f Certified Business Analysis Prfessinal (CBAP ). In additin: IIBA will email the successful candidate at the beginning f the fllwing mnth. Fr example, if the candidate passes the exam n April 15 th, the candidate will receive the email frm IIBA the first week in May. The email will cnfirm the candidate s result and will direct the candidate t the LinkedIn grup fr recipients and t the standards guide t btain the CBAP lg. The email will als indicate when the CBAP recipient can expect t receive their Certificatin kit including the certificate and wallet card. These are printed and mailed frm Canada mid-mnth fllwing the mnth the exam was passed. Fr example, if yu passed yur exam n April 15 th, yur kit will be mailed n May 15 th. 18
A listing f all CBAP recipients with their first and last name, city, prvince/state/territry and certificatin date is psted n the IIBA website this listing is updated daily at the end f every day. 8.0 Re-writing the CBAP Exam If the candidate des nt pass the CBAP exam, he r she is allwed t retake the exam nce within the ne year perid frm the date f their applicatin apprval and exam eligibility email. Hwever, they must wait three mnths frm the date f their last exam sitting befre retaking the exam. In additin: The fee t retake the exam in English and Japanese is $250 USD (fr IIBA members) r $375 (fr nn-members) (plus GST/HST fr Canadian residents). The applicant must cmplete the CBAP Exam Registratin Frm (lcated at www.iiba.rg) and mail it with their fee t the address indicated abve. Seating at the exam is limited and is filled n a first cme first serve basis. Exam registratin is nt dne until IIBA receives the exam fee. If the applicant des nt write and pass the exam within the ne-year perid, they must reapply (and pay full applicatin and exam fees). 9.0 Maintaining CBAP Certificatin and Recertificatin All CBAP recipients are required t meet cntinuing prficiency requirements in rder t maintain their designatin. Cntinuing prficiency is ne f the imprtant benchmarks f a quality certificatin prgram. The IIBA certificatin needs t be renewed every three years. The CBAP Recertificatin Handbk and related frms are psted n the IIBA website. Updating Yur Cntact Infrmatin 19
It is the respnsibility f each CBAP applicant t advise f changes t their cntact infrmatin (i.e., email address), by updating their Prfile n the IIBA website. Failure t prvide updated cntact infrmatin t the Certificatin team may result in missed cmmunicatins. Nte: Email cmmunicatins frm IIBA may inadvertently be blcked r frwarded t bulk mail flders by sme spam filters. CBAP recipients shuld, therefre, add certificatin@iiba.rg t their persnal address bk in their email prgram t help ensure imprtant certificatin prgram messages frm IIBA, specifically thse frm the Certificatin team, are received. 9.1 Suspending r Withdrawing CBAP Certificatin The IIBA Certificatin Bdy reserves the right t revke an IIBA CBAP certificatin at any time after review f a reprted prfessinal miscnduct r fr a misuse f the CBAP lg. The Certificatin Bdy als reserves the right t cnduct randm pst-certificatin audits. All fees paid shall be frfeited in the event f a revked r suspended certificatin. Thse CBAP recipients whse certificatin has been revked will nt be allwed t reapply fr the CBAP Certificatin fr a perid f time. 10.0 Audit f Candidate and CBAP Infrmatin Applicants and CBAP recipients may receive a request frm the IIBA Certificatin Bdy t validate any infrmatin n their applicatin frm. It is the applicant s r CBAP recipient s respnsibility t btain and prvide verificatin f any statements made within an applicatin. 11.0 Reslutin f Appeals & Cmplaints CBAP recipients and applicants fr CBAP certificatin may request a review f an adverse IIBA Certificatin Bdy actin, decisin, r determinatin.
