COURSE DESCRIPTIONS Ancient Wisdom and the Mystical Path The course covers the spiritual concepts of an evolving humanity as found in the ancient wisdom teachings of the world. The relevance of this ageless wisdom in the modern era is revealed. Awakened ones are called to a responsible life of contemplation and action as world servers. Each student will explore what this means personally and in community. Concepts of higher consciousness and universal elements of the mystical path are introduced. Readings, reaction papers, and a project are required. Holistic Spirituality: Practices and Disciplines The course supports the development of holistic spiritual practices and disciplines including prayer, meditation, study, and service. Each student will develop disciplines and practices based on his/her own spiritual personality orientation. Holistic spiritual disciplines and practices help the student to develop balance and heighten awareness of the call to spiritual life. This is an experiential course with opportunities to learn from several local spiritual practitioners. Inner Work Through Dream Study Inner work is the effort by which one gains awareness of the deeper layers of the consciousness within. Exploring the dream world is a powerful way to approach the inner world of the unconscious. Through personal interpretation of dream images and symbols, students will reveal keys to life problems and potentialities. Students will keep a dream journal. Required text: The Mystical, Magical, Marvelous World of Dreams, by Wilda Tanner. Introduction to Meditation I* This course introduces both passive and active meditation techniques with opportunities both to discuss and practice the different elements of meditation. However, moving from simple meditation techniques to more powerful ones takes considerable time to master. This introductory course will lay a solid foundation for continued practice and study of mediation and spiritual science. Required Text: Volume I of Adventure in Meditation Spirituality for the 21 st Century by Carol E. Parrish-Harrah. *Note: To complete the SSS Meditation I course, the student will enroll by completing the Meditation Application Form in Volume I, sending it to the seminary s registrar to forward to the tutors and then, the student will work with the Meditation tutors to do the required lessons in Volume I and Volume II. There are two class options: 1) A class scheduled annually, and 2) An ongoing Monthly Meditation Class along with individual spiritual mentoring. Contact Rev. Patsy or Lynnea Honn to discuss these options. 5
