Introduction to Oracle Business Intelligence (OBI) Oracle Business Intelligence (OBI) is the chosen reporting solution for the University. OBIA (Oracle Business Intelligence Analytics) and OBAW (Oracle Business Analytical Warehouse) are part of this suite of reporting tools. OBI tightly integrates with Themis and provides the capability to deliver reports and dashboards with security. Note: All images in this reference card are only an example. Your screen will be different depending on your access to Themis and OBI. Overview OBI is used for: Pre-built reporting on HR, Payroll, Finance, Research (replaces the old Discoverer reports) Accessing the Management Library Reports (MLR) that replace the old MIS/MIL reports Analysis of University performance against key measures via the Executive Dashboard Ad Hoc Analysis Pre-built reports are accessed via OBI dashboards: A dashboard is a grouping related reports arranged as pages (tabs) within the dashboard The dashboards you have access to is dependent upon the responsibilities you have been granted For the HR, Payroll, Finance and Research dashboards, each dashboard page/tab contains a single report. Each page (report) has a set of parameters that allows you to define the data that you want displayed For the MLR Dashboards, and Executive Dashboard each page contains one or more reports. Logging onto OBI 1 Your UOM OBI responsibilities will display in the Main Menu section of your Personal Home Page. Below are a few examples of Themis menus for users with OBI access. Dashboard Reports The first time you log on to OBI, the default starting page, My Dashboard will be blank. You can customise this page or change your starting page. For more information refer to the OBI Main Menu reference card. 1 Select the Dashboards dropdown. If you have multiple OBI responsibilities, all your OBI dashboards will be available irrespective of the responsibility you log in with (see below for examples). Note: Your OBI responsibility name may differ to what is displayed on the Themis home page HR Central Local User Finance Central User Research RHD User HR Systems User 2 Select the UOM OBI responsibility that you would like to display reports for. The Dashboard will display all the reports that you have access to for the selected responsibility. Each report will display as a separate page/tab on the screen. 3 Click on the >> icon (located on the far right of the tabs) to view further reports. The additional reports will display in a list from which you may select. Setting Parameters 1 Click on the Page Title to run the corresponding report with the default parameters. The selected report will display. The parameters for the selected report display at the top and define what data is included in the report. 2 Enter or select your required parameters. 3 When complete, select Apply to run the report. 4 Click Reset to clear any parameters and return to the default. Export report results You can export a report in a number of different formats PDF, Excel, PowerPoint, Web Archive or as Data (exporting to Excel will be the most common option). Notes on format: PDF: The report layout and format is maintained and published in an easily printed PDF document Excel: The report layout and format is maintained and can be opened in Excel (see Exporting to Excel) PowerPoint: The report layout and format is maintained Web Archive: The report layout and format is maintained and opens as a MHT file in new browser Data: The data is exported to excel and does not maintain layout or formatting Exporting a report to Excel with layout and formatting 2 Scroll to the bottom of the page and click the Export link. 3 Select Excel from the list. 4 Click Save to download the report. Once the report has downloaded, a message will display at the bottom of your screen stating that the file download is complete. 5 Click Open to view the file. Excel will open. The report is exported as an MHT file in order to maintain the formatting and layout. A warning regarding the formatting of the file will display. 6 Click Yes to acknowledge the warning and open the file. The report will open in Excel. Note: you will need to save the document as an Excel file into your preferred directory. 7 Select File > Save As. 8 Navigate to your preferred location and specify an appropriate name for the file. 9 In the Save as type drop down select Excel Workbook (*.xlsx). 10 Click the Save button to save the file. Exporting report to Excel as data without layout and formatting 2 Scroll to the bottom of the page and click the Export link. 3 Select Data > CSV format from the list. 4 Click Save to download the report. 5 Select Open The report will open in Excel. As you can see, the report data has been exported without the formatting and layout from OBI. 6 Save the file as an Excel worksheet. Refer to steps 7-10 above for details. Print report results 2 Scroll to the bottom of the page and click the Print link. 3 Select Printable PDF. The report will display as a PDF in your web browser. 4 Print as normal.
