PLICO RISK MANAGEMENT EVENING ROUNDS LEGAL UPDATE 2014 Join us for an overview of valuable information regarding current legal issues facing physicians and other healthcare providers. Experienced defense attorneys, John Wiggins, Esq and Malinda Matlock, Esq will present topics important to the practice of medicine and discuss strategies to manage both ongoing and newly identified risks faced by providers in this ever-changing healthcare environment. He has tried numerous cases, including class action, complex, and bad faith actions for the plaintiff and defense. He is double board certified by the National Board of Trial Advocacy (Civil) and the American Board of Professional Liability Attorneys (medical malpractice defense). Mr. Wiggins has authored various publications on topics including trial tactics, medical malpractice, personal injury law, and insurance defense, and he is a frequent speaker to medical groups on topics related to healthcare law. He earned his B.A. from Oklahoma State University and his J.D. from the University of Oklahoma. Mr. Wiggins has been defending PLICO physicians since its inception in 1979.
Malinda S. Matlock is an equity partner in the law firm of Pierce Couch Hendrickson Baysinger & Green, LLP with offices in Oklahoma City and Tulsa. She practices in the areas of professional liability, insurance, premises liability, sexual misconduct and employment litigation. She regularly represents doctors in state courts throughout Oklahoma and before the Oklahoma Board of Medical Licensure and Supervision, Oklahoma Bureau of Narcotics and Dangerous Drugs (OBNDD), the Drug Enforcement Agency (DEA) and Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS). Ms. Matlock earned her B.B.A. and J.D. from the University of Oklahoma. She has been on PLICO s defense panel for 23 years.
