USB to Serial Cable Driver Installation The drivers for the USB to Serial Cable are located in the Blastware installation directory: <Blastware Install Directory>/Drivers/USBSerialConverter/ where <Blastware Install Directory> is the directory chosen during the installation of Blastware. Windows 7 Driver Installation: Turn your computer on. If you are using Windows 7, insert the USB to Serial Cable in a spare USB port on your computer. If you have a working internet connection, Windows 7 will try to find a suitable driver for the device from the Windows Update internet site. If a suitable driver was found, Windows 7 will install the driver automatically and no further action is required. If a working Internet connection is not available or the automatic installation was not successful, follow Steps 1 through 9 to install the USB to Serial Cable driver. 1. Press the Windows start button and select the Control Panel menu item. 2. From the Control Panel window, select the Hardware and Sound item.

3. Select the Device Manager item on the next Hardware and Sound screen. 4. The Device Manager is displayed and lists all the hardware components attached to the computer. This listing will contain a grouping labeled Other devices. Expand this grouping by clicking on the arrow to the left of the label. Once expanded, an item labeled USB Serial Converter will be displayed with a yellow warning symbol. This indicates the driver for the USB to Serial Cable was not installed successfully. Right click on the USB Serial Converter icon and then click on the menu item Update Driver Software.

5. A new window is displayed providing an option to search for the driver software. Choose the second option, Browse my computer for driver software. This will present a window asking for a search location. Using the browse button, select the Windows 7 driver folder located under the installation directory of Blastware. For example, C:\Blastware\Drivers\USBSerialConverter\windows 7.0_x86_x64.

6. Select the Next button to start the installation of the device driver for the USB to Serial Cable. 7. When the installation has finished, a completion window is displayed. Close this window by clicking the Close button: 8. Looking at the Other devices item in the Device Manager window, you will now see the Sabrent USB Serial Port item along with the yellow warning symbol. Expand the grouping labeled Universal Serial Bus controllers by clicking on the arrow to the left of the grouping label. Notice an item is displayed with the label USB Serial Converter. This indicates the bus layer of the driver is installed. The next steps will install the Virtual Com Port layer of the driver.

9. Repeat Steps 4 through 8 by right clicking the item labeled Sabrent USB Serial Port and selecting the Update Driver Software menu item. Once completed, an item labeled Sabrent USB Serial Port (COM3) should appear under the grouping labeled Ports (COM & LPT). Note: COM3 is an example. The actual COM port number will vary depending on the available ports on the computer. Notes: If the item Sabrent USB Serial Port (COM3) does not appear but the item USB Serial Converter does appear, follow these Steps (Otherwise, record the COM number shown for Blastware):

1. Right click the USB Serial Converter item and click the Properties menu item. A properties dialog will appear containing four tabs. On the Advanced tab, select the Load VCP item within the dialog. Click OK when done. 2. Remove the USB to Serial Cable from the computer and re-insert it. View the Device Manager window again to ensure the Sabrent USB Serial Port (COM3) item is now under the Port (COM & LPT) grouping. Note: COM3 is an example. 3. You have completed the installation process. Record the COM number shown for Blastware. Windows XP/2000/Vista Driver Installation: 1.
