R OpenBordersMBA The Executive MBA for Experienced Managers
The OpenBordersMBA Program The OpenBordersMBA is an executive, international and multilingual MBA training program in four languages, tailored for «high-flyers» working in services and industries. The OpenBordersMBA is a 18-month modular program which enables executives to earn an MBA degree while pursuing full-time professional work. The OpenBordersMBA is targeted towards young executives from varied cultural, academic and professional background who have the ambition and potential to work towards a successful management career and to companies wishing to bring their young managers to the skill levels of top leaders while working on their company s projects. OBMBA - A Life-Changing Experience One of the roles of business schools throughout the world is to provide their surrounding economy with managers who know how to add value to their company s projects. To do so, business schools need to listen to and even anticipate the needs of businesses and translate them into skills and competencies taught in their evolving programs. Over the last two decades, growing globalization has brought along the need to produce and sell in networks, think in multicultural terms and set up international projects. This new economic setting makes traditional skills the more crucial. A proficient command of languages, an ability to work with partners from new horizons and an understanding of the cultural aspects of markets are assets when it comes to winning contracts, delivering products and services and setting up research and development projects. With their expertise in business teaching and research, their decades of experience in language teaching and student exchange programs and their partnerships within their local economy, the HEC-Management School of the University of Liege, the FH Aachen University of Applied Sciences and Hasselt University find themselves ideally equipped to set up an MBA centered on the needs of businesses, whether local or international, large or small, and within a Euregional, European or worldwide scope. OBMBA Distinctive Peaks Three academic partners and the German-speaking Community Drawing on a tradition of more than one hundred years of business academic training, Hasselt University, FH Aachen and HEC-ULg have joined forces to offer the best program for managers focusing on International Management. Four languages The OBMBA program is designed and taught in four languages to enable managers to practise two foreign languages. Each candidate can follow a trilingual program. The pre-requisite module (Sept. - Dec. of year 1) is taught entirely in French or German. The first MBA module is taught entirely in English (Feb. - May, Year 1). In the second and third modules (Sept. Dec. and Feb. - May Year 2) half the courses are taught in English and the rest in the second foreign language of the candidate s choice : French, Dutch or German. Summer schools are organized during the summer between Year 1 and Year 2 to improve second foreign language skills. International faculty Building on the reputation of their academics and their interaction with local and international businesses, the three partner institutions have emphasized the inter-regional and international aspects of the program s content, tuition languages (French, English, Dutch and German) and faculty. The latter come from Germany, the Netherlands, Belgium as well as other countries in or outside Europe. In order to save time and money on extensive field trips, the OpenBordersMBA invites international guest speakers and experts. Developing potential in a privileged geographical region The Meuse-Rhine Euregion encompasses five regions, three countries, three languages, four million inhabitants and 250,000 businesses. Working on Euregional projects means opening up to German, Dutch and international markets. The OpenBordersMBA aims at helping today s managers within the Euregion develop their skills while taking advantage of this privileged geographical location. Managers develop their potential while applying the specific skills learned on the job. Hence, they need time and opportunity to think, listen, learn, share, and elaborate projects which will benefit their company as well as the «extended region» they work in. The participants make up the board of the company. The first half-day is devoted to presenting the game and briefing all participants. Each team makes 12 decisions (one decision per quarter over 3 years), at the end of which it receives a quarterly result sheet based on its own decisions and those of its competitors. After 3 simulated years of company life, the board has to present their results to their partners (the shareholders, the bank, the works council) represented by all other participants. The decisions of each team are analysed and synthesized in a final report drawn up by the game s organizers.
